The XPENG G6 Performance makes a credible case against the Tesla Model Y, particularly if you value rapid acceleration, a spacious cabin and XPENG’s advertised fast charging. But the evidence available here does not support a universal winner: prices, specifications and charging access depend on the market, and there is no matched head-to-head test of the exact trims.
What the comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The G6 Performance is the all-wheel-drive version of XPENG’s electric SUV. The Model Y is not one fixed specification: trim, model year and regional equipment matter. A useful comparison starts with the two cars actually available to you, rather than treating either nameplate as a single global product.
The evidence below combines XPENG’s 2025 update announcement, a live XPENG France price listing accessed in 2026, a 2026 TechRadar review of the European-market update, and a 2025 Singapore review by Lee Nian Tjoe in The Straits Times, hosted by XPENG Singapore. These sources describe different markets and versions; they are not a controlled comparison of current, matched Model Y and G6 Performance trims.
Charging: the G6’s headline advantage has conditions
XPENG said on July 10, 2025 that the updated G6 Long Range and Performance use an 80.8 kWh LFP battery, and claimed a peak DC charging power of 451 kW and a 10–80% charge in 12 minutes. Those are manufacturer figures, not a promise that every charging stop will take 12 minutes. Achieving the claim requires a compatible charger capable of supplying the required power; the result in practice also depends on the charging equipment and conditions.

The Singapore review noted that locally available charging equipment at the time was slower than the car’s peak capability. That illustrates why charger access can matter more than a headline peak: if the chargers on your routes cannot deliver the car’s required power, the advertised maximum will not determine your trip time. The sources here do not establish that the G6 will charge faster than a Model Y on every real journey, or in every region.
Range and pace: match the version and test cycle
TechRadar’s May 2026 review reports 316 miles WLTP for the European-market G6 AWD Performance and 326 miles WLTP for the RWD Long Range. These figures refer to different G6 trims, and WLTP figures should not be compared directly with EPA or other-cycle numbers. The sources cited here do not establish a current, matching Model Y range figure for the same market and test cycle.

In a Singapore-market review, Lee Nian Tjoe reports a 0–100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds for the G6 Performance. He describes it as “more of a very comfortable and rapid cruiser than a sports car,” rather than a car that engages the driver as speed builds. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a universal verdict on the car or a direct comparison with a matched Model Y.
Cabin comfort and practicality
XPENG’s France page lists 571 litres of luggage capacity for the G6, expanding to 1,374 litres with the rear seats folded. Those are figures for the specification represented on that regional page, not a guarantee that every market version has identical equipment or capacity. In the Singapore review, Tjoe describes a broad rear bench and generous legroom.

TechRadar’s 2026 reviewer also credits the updated G6 with improved cabin refinement and describes it as roomy and comfortable. These are road-test impressions; the available evidence does not provide a controlled comfort or interior-space comparison against a specific Model Y trim.
Infotainment and driving experience are part of the trade-off
TechRadar’s review is not an unqualified endorsement: alongside the praise for refinement, the reviewer criticizes the G6’s menu complexity and limited driver engagement. Treat those as one reviewer’s observations from a road test, not established owner-wide findings. If interface simplicity or steering and handling character is a deciding factor, try the exact local versions yourself rather than inferring a winner from acceleration or screen size alone.

Price: compare local, current, like-for-like offers
XPENG France’s regional page listed the G6 Performance from €50,990 when accessed in 2026. That is a France-specific listing that may change, not a global price or an all-in quote for another country. It cannot establish whether the G6 is cheaper than a Model Y where you live.
For historical context only, TechRadar’s June 2025 UK review of an earlier G6 generation described an entry-price gap of about £5,000 against a comparable Model Y. That earlier UK comparison is not a current price comparison for the 2025-updated G6 or a 2026 offer. Compare local on-road prices for the exact trims after applicable incentives, rather than combining that historical figure with a current price from another country.

How to decide between the G6 Performance and a Model Y
- Match the cars. Write down the model year, drivetrain and exact trim of each vehicle offered locally; do not compare the G6 Performance with a different G6 version or an unspecified Model Y.
- Compare local costs. Get current on-road quotes for both, including applicable incentives and fees. The cited evidence does not settle current global pricing or ownership costs.
- Check the range basis. Compare figures from the same test cycle and market. Do not treat WLTP and EPA numbers as directly equivalent.
- Check the chargers you can actually use. Look at compatible high-power chargers on your regular routes and their availability. The G6’s 451 kW peak and 12-minute claim depend on suitable charging equipment.
- Drive both versions. Assess ride comfort, handling, visibility, interface usability and driver-assistance controls in the cars you can buy, not just in a review of another region’s specification.
- Verify ownership support locally. Check warranty terms, service coverage, availability and resale assumptions with local sources. The evidence here does not establish comparable current warranty, service-network or resale figures.
