How much cheaper is the Model Y Performance in New Zealand?
Auto Trader NZ reported the Performance at NZ$95,900, down from NZ$100,900. That is a NZ$5,000 reduction; on-road costs are extra. The figures are reported New Zealand prices, not a guaranteed final transaction price. The report says the updated cars could be ordered when it was published on 1 October 2026, but buyers should check Tesla’s live New Zealand ordering information for current pricing and availability.
The price cut was reported as part of 2027 model-year updates. Auto Trader NZ also lists Glacier Blue paint and a Zen Grey interior among the changes, and says paint becomes a paid option on the Performance. The delivered price therefore depends on on-road costs, paint choice and any other options selected.
Is the New Zealand Model Y Performance now made in China?
Auto Trader NZ attributes the lower price to a move in production sourcing to Tesla’s Shanghai factory. That is the basis for describing the change as a production move, but the available reporting does not include a Tesla announcement independently confirming that New Zealand orders will be supplied from Shanghai.

The report does not establish why the sourcing change is associated with a lower price, or quantify any cost mechanism. It does not support claims about tariff savings, factory cost savings, or an effect on build quality. Buyers who want to know where a particular car was built should confirm the origin for their actual order with Tesla rather than infer it from the reported change.
What else is reported for the 2027 update?
Paint and interior
Auto Trader NZ names Glacier Blue paint and a Zen Grey interior among the update details. It says paint becomes an additional-cost option on the Performance, so a comparison with an earlier listing should account for the chosen colour as well as the vehicle’s base price.

Power Share
Auto Trader NZ says new Model Y and Model 3 vehicles are fitted with Power Share, Tesla’s term for vehicle-to-load power, and that it works through a separately sold Tesla Outlet Adapter. The same report says existing vehicles cannot receive the feature as an add-on. Check compatibility and local accessory availability for the exact vehicle and market before relying on it.

CnEVPost’s 11 September 2026 report on the China-market Model Y Performance listed a 369,000-yuan price, 659 km of CLTC range, a 250 km/h top speed and a 0–100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds, with the specifications attributed to Tesla’s China-market launch information. Those numbers describe the China-market vehicle and test context; they do not establish New Zealand pricing, range, equipment or delivery terms. The yuan price should not be treated as a conversion to a New Zealand buyer’s transaction price.

The same report cited China Passenger Car Association data showing 29,260 Model Y deliveries in China in August 2026, down 25.76% year on year, and 226,931 deliveries from January through August, down 6.10%. Those figures describe China-market deliveries; they do not establish New Zealand demand or explain the reported New Zealand price reduction.
