When did the Model S and Model X refresh happen?
Tesla published its description of the refreshed Model S and Model X on October 27, 2025, and updated that page on April 10, 2026. That update followed a more substantial redesign in 2021. Tesla said the 2021 redesign brought a new powertrain and chassis, along with redesigned exterior and interior; the later update is described as a refresh, not a full redesign. What changed in the refreshed Model S and Model X?
The following changes are Tesla’s descriptions; they are not independent comparative test results. The company did not provide comparative measurements in its announcement.
- Quieter cabin: Tesla said it added more wind- and road-noise insulation and improved active noise cancelling.
- Interior and exterior details: The refresh brought new wheel designs and dynamic ambient lighting.
- Model X third row: Tesla said it increased shoulder room in the third row.
- Interface: The vehicles received a revised user interface.
- Visibility and awareness: Tesla added a front fascia camera and a blind spot indicator.
The announcement does not establish numerical differences in range, acceleration, or other performance specifications, so those should not be inferred from the refresh description.

Can you still order a Model S or Model X?
Availability changed after Tesla announced the refresh. On January 28, 2026, Elon Musk said production would end in the second quarter of 2026. Axios reported the statement and quoted Musk saying, “It’s time to basically bring the Model S and X programs to an end with an honorable discharge because we’re really moving into a future that is based on autonomy,” referring to the company’s stated rationale. According to TechRadar’s April 2, 2026 report, Musk said on April 1 that custom orders had ended and only inventory remained. That report does not establish how many vehicles remained, which countries had stock, or whether any inventory is still available on October 8, 2026. TechRadar’s April 2026 report

Axios reported that Tesla delivered 59,900 vehicles in its “other models” category in 2025, down 36% from 2024. That category includes vehicles beyond the Model S and Model X, so it is not an S/X sales total. The sources cited here do not establish separate 2025 delivery figures for either model.
