Tesla currently lists one U.S. subscription price—$99 per month—and does not offer FSD (Supervised) for outright purchase. Separate HW3 and AI4 subscription tiers have not been announced in the official materials reviewed.
What changed: the FSD transfer program has ended
Tesla’s U.S. support page states that the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) Transfer Program ended on March 31, 2026. Under Tesla’s current terms, FSD cannot be transferred to another account or another Tesla vehicle. See Tesla’s U.S. FSD support page for the current policy.
A separate report identified February 14, 2026, as the final day to buy FSD outright. That specific cutoff date is not confirmed on the Tesla primary pages reviewed, so it should not be treated as Tesla’s stated transfer deadline. The confirmed transfer-program end date is March 31.
What Tesla currently charges in the United States
Tesla’s U.S. support page lists FSD (Supervised) at $99 USD per month and says outright purchase is unavailable. The price is subject to Tesla’s terms and change. Eligible owners can subscribe through the Tesla app or the vehicle touchscreen; the car may need an over-the-air software update.

A Notebookcheck report published January 14, 2026, and updated October 5, 2026, describes tiered pricing as an open possibility. It raises the prospect of less expensive supervised access for HW3 and a higher-priced option for newer hardware or unsupervised service, but does not report an announced Tesla plan. Treat those ideas as speculation, not available subscription choices.
Tesla’s Q4 and FY 2025 investor update says the company began moving access to monthly-only subscriptions during Q1 2026. It also reports that monthly FSD subscriptions more than doubled in 2025; that is Tesla’s own company-reported figure, not an independent measurement. The update supports the shift toward monthly access but does not announce HW3 or AI4 price tiers. Tesla’s investor relations site

What HW3 owners should check before deciding
Hardware alone does not establish which features a particular Tesla can use. Tesla’s New Zealand support page says its FSD package is available for HW3 and HW4 vehicles, while also qualifying feature availability by vehicle configuration, hardware, software version, region, model, trim, model year, and regulatory approval. For a referenced feature, the page says rollout will begin with HW4 and gives no confirmed HW3 timing. Those are New Zealand-specific statements, not a universal promise about U.S. vehicles. Tesla New Zealand’s Autopilot and FSD support information
- Check the vehicle’s hardware and configuration, not just its model year.
- Confirm availability for your region and vehicle in Tesla’s app or support materials.
- Distinguish features currently available on your car from features described as future rollout.
- Do not base a purchase, upgrade, or trade-in decision on an unannounced HW3 or AI4 subscription tier.
What happens to FSD when a Tesla is resold?
Tesla says feature availability after resale depends on the previous owner’s status. If the previous owner had a subscription, the new owner needs their own subscription. If the previous owner bought FSD outright and did not transfer it, the vehicle may retain FSD with the car. Confirm the status of a specific used vehicle with Tesla before relying on the feature as part of a purchase.

FSD (Supervised) still requires an attentive driver
Tesla describes FSD (Supervised) as an advanced driver assistance system intended for use only with a fully attentive driver. It does not make a Tesla fully autonomous; the driver remains responsible for supervising the vehicle. A possible future higher-priced tier described in media coverage is not evidence that unsupervised service is currently available. Tesla’s driver-assistance feature information
