A Tesla Destination Charger is a site-hosted Tesla Wall Connector for charging while you visit a hotel, restaurant, workplace, or other property—not a Supercharger stop. Drivers can locate participating sites in the Tesla app or vehicle touchscreen; property owners can arrange installation through a Tesla Certified Installer and manage the site through Tesla Portal. Prices, access, and idle-fee rules are specific to each location.

What Tesla Destination Charging is

Tesla describes Destination Charging as a network built with site partners to make charging available where customers spend time. The locations include hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, office towers, attractions, resorts, vineyards, and parking garages. The intended stop may last a few hours or overnight. Tesla’s current Destination Charging page reports more than 50,000 Wall Connectors at these sites; that is a Tesla-published figure, not an independently audited count.

A Destination Charger is a Wall Connector installed at a participating property. It is distinct from a Supercharger: the practical distinction is the charging context—destination charging happens during a visit or stay. Tesla’s general Charging page describes Destination Charging as providing up to 44 miles of range per hour, but that is not a guaranteed rate for every car or electrical setup.

How to find and use a Destination Charging site

Find a site and check its details

Tesla drivers can search from the vehicle touchscreen or Tesla app; vehicle navigation can route to the property entrance. Drivers of other EVs can open the Tesla app and select “Charge Your EV.” A location appearing in an app does not establish that it will be accessible or available when you arrive. Check the site’s access rules and hours, parking requirements or fees, connector availability, and displayed charging price before relying on it.

  • COMPATIBILITY: Wall Connector is compatible with all Tesla models: Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y.
  • CHARGING SPEED: Up to 44 miles of range per hour of charge, with up to 11.5 kW / 48 amp output, depending on Tesla model and breaker size.
  • CONVENIENCE: Indoor or outdoor installation with variable amperage that allows max output to be customized to an existing power supply and supports any output up to 48A. Possible max output configurations include: 48A, 40A, 32A, 24A, 16A, 12A.
  • CONNECTIVITY: Connecting the Wall Connector to a local Wi-Fi network enables over-the-air firmware updates for continual product improvements and remote access control.
  • POWER-SHARE: Power-share is ideal for locations that need to charge more than one Tesla at the same time. This functionality allows up to six Wall Connectors to be linked for efficient power management.

Start a session with a Tesla vehicle

  1. Add a valid payment method in the Tesla app.
  2. At the site, connect the provided charging cable to the vehicle’s charge port.
  3. Confirm charging has started; Tesla says the charge-port LED flashes green during charging.

Start and stop a session with another EV

Tesla’s published app process requires app version 4.33 or later and a Tesla account. App labels and steps can change as Tesla updates its service.

  1. In the Tesla app, choose “Charge Your EV” and set up your account if needed.
  2. Add a payment method, then plug the charger into the vehicle.
  3. Scan the QR code on the charger and follow the app prompts to begin charging.
  4. When finished, use “Stop Charging” in the app.

Wall Connector supports most EVs when the connector matches the vehicle’s charge inlet. Drivers of non-Tesla vehicles should check with their automaker for expected charging speed.

What charging costs and when idle fees apply

There is no single network-wide Destination Charging rate. Tesla bills per kilowatt-hour, with the location’s price shown in its pin card on the vehicle touchscreen or in the Tesla app. Tesla says displayed prices include normal taxes and fees, and prices may change. Payment is processed automatically using the app’s default payment method; invoices are available in the app’s charging history.

Some sites apply idle fees after a vehicle reaches full charge if it remains parked. Tesla Support’s terms, as displayed on October 8, 2026, list $0.50 USD per minute when the fee applies, rising to $1.00 USD per minute when the station is 100% occupied. Fees apply when the site is at least 50% occupied and are waived if the vehicle is moved within five minutes. Check the specific site’s pin for its applicable policy; not every location necessarily has the same terms.

How property owners install and operate chargers

Installation and public listing

Tesla’s commercial process begins with ordering Wall Connectors and arranging installation with a Tesla Certified Installer. After installation, the units must be commissioned; the business then claims and manages its site in Tesla Portal. Reliable connectivity and commissioning are required for eligibility to appear in Tesla’s Find Us map and Trip Planner. Tesla makes the final decision about initial and continued public listing, so completing installation does not guarantee a public listing.

Tesla’s Certified Installer Quick Guide gives a typical turnkey installation range of $2,000–$5,000 per unit. Tesla says the estimate includes hardware, assessment, design and engineering, wiring, labor and materials, connectivity, permitting, and commissioning. It is a vendor estimate, not a site-specific quote. Cost depends on factors such as distance to power, existing electrical service capacity, power sharing for long-dwell locations, and trenching or other civil work. A property should obtain a site assessment before budgeting from the range.

Choose complimentary or paid charging

Hosts can set charging as complimentary or pay-per-use in Tesla Portal. Tesla states that enabling pay-per-use incurs an ongoing $0.03 per kWh Tesla fee for payment processing and remote troubleshooting support, with no other Tesla costs under the described setup. Regulatory and product eligibility varies: Tesla says California and Washington restrict pay-per-use to qualifying private sites, while other U.S. states allow it on private and public sites. Owners should verify current rules and how their site is classified before enabling paid charging.

Does a Wall Connector fit the site?

Tesla states that Wall Connector can provide up to 11.5 kW / 48 amps. Its stated maximum is not a promise of that output in every installation: vehicle onboard-charger limits, electrical supply, configuration, and charging conditions affect the result. Tesla’s up-to-44-miles-per-hour range statement applies to Tesla vehicles and likewise should not be treated as a universal rate.

After registration and Wi-Fi setup, the Tesla app can control and schedule a Wall Connector and display charging data; firmware updates can be delivered automatically. Charging Access Control can limit access for Tesla vehicles, but Tesla’s support documentation specifies that capability for Tesla vehicles, not other EVs. Tesla lists a warranty of 48 months for normal residential use and 12 months for normal commercial use, measured from the invoice date; features and terms may differ for older equipment or other setups.

What drivers and hosts should compare

Drivers choosing a location

  • Whether the site is open to you, including operating hours and any parking conditions.
  • The displayed per-kWh price and whether idle-fee terms apply.
  • Whether a connector is available when you expect to arrive.
  • For a non-Tesla EV, whether the connector fits and what charging speed your vehicle can accept.

Property owners planning a site

  • Electrical capacity and the distance from the supply to planned charger locations.
  • Expected dwell time, likely utilization, and whether power sharing suits the site.
  • Whether the property’s access model and location qualify for the intended pay-per-use setup.
  • Installation scope, connectivity, commissioning, and the requirements for Tesla map listing.
  • Whether complimentary charging or paid charging better fits the property’s operations.
