Tesla Cybertrucks Were Stored at a Farmington Hills Lot — Were They Unsold?

Dozens of Tesla Cybertrucks and other Tesla vehicles were stored at Hunters Square, a shopping center in Farmington Hills outside Detroit, in May and June 2025. Reports disagreed about whether the vehicles were unsold or had already been sold and were awaiting delivery. Farmington Hills said vehicle storage was not a permitted use at the site, and June follow-up coverage reported that the vehicles were removed after a court order.

Where were the Cybertrucks parked?

The vehicles were at Hunters Square on Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, a Detroit suburb—not in Detroit proper. Reports placed them in a vacant area associated with a former Bed Bath & Beyond and Torrid, near an open Buffalo Wild Wings. The shopping center was undergoing redevelopment, according to WDIV/ClickOnDetroit.

TechCrunch reported the lot on May 28, 2025, and Autoblog also described the site as a vacant Bed Bath & Beyond parking lot. A nearby Tesla showroom in West Bloomfield was suggested as a possible reason for the overflow, but reporting did not establish that as the cause.

How many Tesla vehicles were there?

Counts varied by outlet and date, and included more than Cybertrucks. TechCrunch and Autoblog described dozens of vehicles. WDIV/ClickOnDetroit reported on June 3 that 100 or more Tesla vehicles—including Cybertrucks, cars, and SUVs—were at the lot. That figure was not a count of Cybertrucks alone.

Were the vehicles actually unsold?

That was not settled by the reporting. Some coverage characterized the vehicles as unsold inventory. Fortune reported on June 4, 2025, that Tesla employees told CBS Detroit the vehicles had been sold and were waiting for delivery. The careful conclusion is that Tesla vehicles, many of them Cybertrucks, were stored at the site; published accounts differed on their sales status.

Fortune also relayed two broader market figures, neither an official Tesla disclosure: Cox Automotive estimated just over 6,000 Cybertrucks sold in the first quarter of 2025, while Electrek reported an estimate of a record 10,000-unit inventory stockpile in May 2025. These are distinct third-party estimates, not a verified count of vehicles at Hunters Square or proof that those particular vehicles were unsold.

Why did Farmington Hills object to the storage?

WDIV quoted a city spokesperson saying vehicle storage was not a permitted use at the site. The spokesperson said: “The City of Farmington Hills code enforcement office has been in communication with the Hunter’s Square shopping center management to resolve the issue. The enforcement process is being followed and takes time.”

Autoblog likewise reported that the city had notified the landlord and was pursuing enforcement. The dispute concerned the use of the shopping-center property for vehicle storage; the available reporting did not establish that the city objected specifically to Cybertrucks.

What happened to the vehicles?

A June 2025 follow-up reported that a judge ordered the property owner to remove the vehicles by June 25, and that they were subsequently removed. That reported resolution concerns the Hunters Square episode. It does not establish Tesla’s current inventory levels or whether vehicles are stored at other locations.
