The right choice depends less on either truck’s headline maximum than on your exact configuration and routine. Tesla lists 325 estimated miles for Cybertruck Premium All-Wheel Drive and 320 for Cyberbeast; Ford’s 2025 F-150 Lightning lineup ranges by trim, with the XLT listed at 240 miles and some configurations reaching up to 320 EPA-estimated miles. For towing, compare the specific truck’s rating and package with your trailer’s loaded weight, tongue weight and frontal area—and plan for shorter range on the road.
How do the published range figures compare?
The manufacturers’ figures are estimates for particular configurations, not promises of the distance every truck will cover. Tesla’s U.S. Cybertruck page lists 325 miles of estimated range for Premium All-Wheel Drive and 320 miles for Cyberbeast. Tesla also lists a Long Range configuration with its own rating; check the live specifications for the exact vehicle before comparing or buying. Tesla Cybertruck specifications
Ford’s 2025 F-150 Lightning page advertises up to 320 EPA-estimated miles, but that is not the figure for every trim. The XLT shown is rated at 240 miles, while other configurations reach higher figures. Ford’s 2025 technical specifications distinguish standard-range and extended-range batteries, so compare the battery and trim on the vehicle you are considering. These published numbers do not establish which truck will travel farther in ordinary driving. Weather, speed, payload, tires and route all affect electric range. Towing is a particularly important variable: Tesla warns that it significantly decreases range. The sources available here do not provide a controlled, same-route towing test of both trucks.

What can each truck tow?
Maximum tow ratings apply to specified configurations and equipment. They are not a measure of how far a truck can tow a particular trailer, and a higher rating alone does not settle which vehicle suits a given load.
| Truck and configuration | Published maximum tow rating | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Cybertruck AWD | 11,000 lb | Tesla also lists a maximum tongue weight of 1,100 lb. |
| Cybertruck Long Range | 7,500 lb | Tesla also lists a maximum tongue weight of 750 lb. |
| 2025 F-150 Lightning Pro, Flash or Lariat configurations specified by Ford | Up to 10,000 lb | With the available Max Trailer Tow Package; some configurations are fleet-only. |
| 2025 F-150 Lightning Platinum | Up to 8,600 lb | With the available Max Trailer Tow Package. |
| Specified 2025 F-150 Lightning Pro or XLT configurations | Up to 7,700 lb | With the available Max Trailer Tow Package; verify the exact vehicle and configuration. |
Tesla says total trailer weight includes cargo and equipment, and warns owners not to exceed the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Passengers and cargo in the truck also affect available tongue weight and practical towing capacity. Ford likewise says its rating varies with cargo, configuration, accessories and passengers. Check the exact truck’s rating and equipment rather than relying on a model-wide maximum. Tesla Cybertruck towing guidance · Ford 2025 technical specifications

What towing means for range and trip planning
A tow rating tells you the maximum specified trailer load—not how many miles you can drive with it. Trailer mass and aerodynamic drag influence energy use, so the loaded trailer, its frontal area, the route and the available charging stops matter when planning a trip. Tesla recommends entering trailer mass and dimensions in a trailer profile to help estimate consumption and explicitly cautions that towing significantly reduces range. Do not assume the unloaded range figure will hold with a trailer attached.
- Identify the exact truck trim, battery and tow package, then check its rating.
- Work out the trailer’s loaded weight, including cargo and equipment, and account for tongue weight and the truck’s passenger and cargo load.
- Consider the trailer’s size and frontal area as well as its weight; a weight rating by itself does not predict trip energy use.
- Plan charging for the route with the trailer in mind. The manufacturer estimates alone do not specify towing range for your load or conditions.
How do they compare in everyday use and exported power?
Both trucks offer ways to power equipment, but the output and required hardware differ. Tesla says Cybertruck Powershare can provide up to 11.5 kW of continuous power from the vehicle battery. Home backup requires a Powershare Gateway and Universal Wall Connector, or a Powerwall with a Wall Connector. Tesla’s outage estimate assumes an average U.S. home uses 30 kWh per day and says results vary with solar equipment, vehicle model and actual energy use; it is an estimate, not a guaranteed backup duration. Which truck makes more sense for your use?
- If you tow regularly: Start with the exact vehicle’s tow package and rating, then check loaded trailer weight, tongue weight, payload and trailer dimensions. Build charging into the towing route rather than choosing from unloaded range figures.
- If you mostly commute and carry occasional cargo: Compare the range estimate for the specific trim and battery, charging access, and the cab and bed configuration that fits your day-to-day needs.
- If vehicle power matters: Compare the output with your intended tools or backup use, then verify the compatible vehicle and home equipment and any installation requirements.
- If you are considering a Lightning: Confirm whether the vehicle is current inventory and distinguish it from Ford’s announced next-generation model.
