The Tesla Cybertruck’s maximum rated towing capacity is 7,500 lb for Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive and 11,000 lb for Premium All-Wheel Drive and Cyberbeast, according to Tesla’s North American owner’s manual, software version 2026.32. Towing can significantly reduce range, but Tesla does not publish one universal range-loss percentage or miles-lost figure. The actual effect depends on the loaded trailer, route, speed and conditions.
Cybertruck towing capacity by configuration
Tesla lists these maximum trailer and tongue weights in its North American Cybertruck owner’s manual (software version 2026.32):
| Configuration | Maximum towing capacity | Maximum tongue weight |
|---|---|---|
| Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive | 7,500 lb (3,402 kg) | 750 lb (340 kg) |
| Premium All-Wheel Drive | 11,000 lb (4,990 kg) | 1,100 lb (499 kg) |
| Cyberbeast | 11,000 lb (4,990 kg) | 1,100 lb (499 kg) |
These are maximum ratings, not a guarantee that every truck can tow that much in every loaded condition. Confirm the configuration and capacity label on the specific vehicle, and consult the current manual for its market and model year.
How to work out the actual allowable load
The trailer’s total weight includes its cargo and equipment. Tesla’s maximum towing figures assume the truck remains within its gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Passengers, cargo and equipment carried in the Cybertruck count toward that limit and can reduce the tongue weight—and therefore the trailer weight—the truck can handle. The vehicle’s certification label and manual govern the specific truck.

- 【2019–2025 Tesla Model Y Fitment】 — Designed for compatible 2019–2025 Tesla Model Y configurations. Vehicle-specific construction provides a precise rear fit while maintaining a clean, low-profile appearance. Model Y 2026 might need drilling. Please verify your model year before ordering
- 【8,000 lbs Max GTW Hitch Rating】 — Heavy-duty hitch structure is rated up to 8,000 lbs GTW and 800 lbs TW. These ratings apply to the hitch itself and are NOT the towing or tongue-weight capacity of the Tesla Model Y. Never exceed vehicle manufacturer limits
- 【2-Inch Class 3 Receiver】 — Standard 2-inch receiver works with compatible bike racks, cargo carriers, ball mounts and other 2-inch hitch accessories. Always follow Tesla’s vehicle-specific towing, tongue-weight and accessory-load limits
- 【Bolt-On Installation, Retains OEM Crash Bar】 — Vehicle-specific mounting design installs at factory attachment locations with no drilling or welding required. The original aluminum rear crash bar remains in place. Rear bumper cover removal is required during installation; professional installation is recommended
- 【Heavy-Duty Carbon Steel Construction】 — Built from strong carbon steel with a durable black anti-corrosion finish for long-term strength and weather resistance. Hidden-style positioning keeps most of the hitch structure tucked behind the rear bumper
Tongue weight is the downward force the loaded trailer places on the hitch. Tesla specifies a maximum of 10% of maximum towing capacity and recommends balancing the trailer for approximately 10% tongue weight, subject to the stated cap. Do not exceed the configuration’s listed maximum tongue weight. Tesla also warns against negative tongue weight and rear-heavy, unstable trailer loading; with the trailer attached, the vehicle should sit horizontally.
Cybertruck curb mass, payload and GVWR vary by trim and tire configuration. Tesla’s vehicle weights table lists payload figures from 2,000 to 2,500 lb across the configurations shown. Payload is not extra capacity beyond GVWR: passengers, cargo and hitch load all have to fit within the truck’s applicable limits.

How much range does towing use?
Tesla says that towing a trailer and carrying accessories increase vehicle weight and drag, so driving range can decrease significantly. It does not give a single official percentage or number of miles lost that applies to all Cybertrucks and trailers. A light, streamlined trailer and a large, tall one create different loads; speed, route, elevation, weather and powered trailer accessories also affect energy use. Treat any specific range penalty as a result for a particular setup and trip, not as a general Tesla specification.
For planning, create an accurate Trailer Profile with the trailer’s mass, dimensions and auxiliary settings, then use Trailer Mode. Tesla says Trip Planner attempts to account for Trailer Mode, but actual energy consumption can vary. Monitor consumption while driving and allow a margin when choosing trip length and charging stops rather than relying on the displayed estimate as a guarantee.

Hitch, brakes and trailer setup
Tesla’s towing service instructions specify a receiver for a 2-inch ball mount; the mount is purchased separately and must suit the trailer and towing setup. Confirm the ball size, mount geometry and load rating before use. Tesla describes a 7-pin SAE J2863 connection, which supports heavier loads requiring their own braking system, and a 4-pin SAE J1239 connection for lighting on lighter loads.
- Set up trailer brakes and calibrate them as directed by Tesla.
- Use safety chains and distribute trailer cargo so the loaded trailer is balanced.
- Set the correct Trailer Profile and Trailer Mode, and check tire pressures for towing.
- Keep the truck and trailer within their respective weight limits and verify the combination sits horizontally when hitched.
How towing changes driving
Towing affects steering, stability, turning radius, stopping distance and braking performance. Tesla recommends reducing speed, avoiding sudden maneuvers and sharp turns, and maintaining at least twice the usual following distance. Leave more room for turns and stops, and adjust driving to the trailer and road conditions.
