In March 2025, Cybertruck buyers and delivery agents reportedly described delivery delays amid concerns that exterior trim could detach. The issue became the subject of an official NHTSA safety recall, but the available records do not establish that Tesla confirmed a nationwide delivery halt.
What happened to Cybertruck deliveries?
On March 13, 2025, Electrek reported accounts from delivery agents and customers describing a containment hold. Road & Track reported the next day that at least eight prospective owners had described delays. Those accounts document reported delivery experiences; they do not establish how many deliveries were affected or how long any hold lasted.
The reports about delivery delays and the official safety recall are related to concerns about exterior trim, but they are different kinds of evidence. The delivery accounts do not prove a company-confirmed nationwide stop-sale. The NHTSA recall notice, by contrast, formally identifies a safety defect and specifies a repair.
What is the Cybertruck trim defect?
NHTSA campaign 25V-170 concerns the stainless-steel exterior cant rail, also called the cantrail. In its March 19, 2025 recall acknowledgement, NHTSA stated: “The cant rail, a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, can delaminate and detach from the vehicle.” A panel that detaches while driving can create a road hazard and increase crash risk.

Which Cybertrucks are included?
The recall covers certain 2024–2025 Tesla Cybertrucks. NHTSA lists 46,096 potentially affected vehicles. That is the estimated recall population, not a count of confirmed trim failures or detached panels.
Model year alone does not confirm whether a particular vehicle is included. Check the vehicle identification number (VIN) using Tesla’s recall lookup or the NHTSA recall search to determine its status.

How is the cantrail recall repaired?
Tesla’s stated remedy is replacement of the cantrail assembly by Tesla service, free of charge. Use Tesla’s recall instructions and arrange service rather than attempting to secure or repair a recalled panel yourself.
