The Tesla Cybertruck bed is advertised as 6 by 4 feet, with up to 2,500 pounds of payload capacity. Its powered tonneau cover, storage, cargo-mounting hardware and outlets can make it a useful work or recreation space, but equipment varies by vehicle. Tesla’s published figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
Cybertruck bed dimensions and capacity
Tesla’s 2026 North American product page describes a 6-by-4-foot bed and advertises payload capacity of up to 2,500 pounds. Both figures are manufacturer claims; payload depends on the specific vehicle and its configuration, so consult the vehicle’s information and manual before loading it. Tesla also advertises up to 120 cubic feet of cargo space for the Cybertruck overall. That is a vehicle-wide figure, not the bed’s volume. Tesla’s Cybertruck specifications do not establish that every vehicle has identical bed equipment.
In its North American Owner’s Manual, software version 2026.32, Tesla cautions that a vehicle may not have the tonneau cover and its controls, the under-bed compartment, or L-tracks. Availability can vary by market, configuration and manufacture date. Check the specific truck rather than assuming a feature is standard.
How the powered tonneau cover works
When equipped, the motorized cover can be operated with exterior buttons, the touchscreen or the Tesla mobile app. Tesla’s Cybertruck Owner’s Manual describes these controls:

- A full press opens or closes the cover fully.
- Press again while it is moving to pause it.
- A lighter press can move it to a partial position.
Keep hands and objects clear of the cover tracks while it moves. Debris or items caught in the tracks can damage the mechanism.
Does the tonneau cover keep water out?
No. Tesla says the closed cover protects the bed from most rain and snow, but the bed is not waterproof: water ingress or condensation can still occur. Keep water-sensitive cargo in the cab, the under-bed compartment if fitted, or the powered frunk rather than relying on the cover as a seal.

Tailgate, storage and bed lighting
The tailgate releases using an exterior switch. Integrated struts help prevent it from dropping forcefully. The manual also describes an emergency release inside the tailgate for use when the vehicle is parked.
Depending on the build, the bed may include LED light bars, front and rear tie-downs, accessory attachment points, L-track rails and a sealed under-bed compartment. The compartment has a drain plug and, according to Tesla’s manual, may be used to hold water or ice. Tesla advises against storing volatile solvents, chemicals or liquids in the bed or compartment.

Securing cargo: anchors, L-tracks and limits
Tesla describes four tie-down anchors at the bed’s bottom corners and eight accessory-rack attachment points. Two L-track rails are available on some builds. These are distinct types of mounting points, and none should be treated as towing hardware.
- The maximum force between any two anchor points is 707 pounds (320 kilograms), according to the manual.
- Do not use the tie-down anchors or L-tracks for towing.
- Check that cargo is secured appropriately and does not exceed the vehicle’s payload limit.
Bed outlets and Tesla Powershare
Tesla’s product page lists two 120-volt outlets and one 240-volt outlet in the bed, and advertises up to 9.6 kW across the vehicle’s onboard outlets. Tesla’s FAQ says the 240-volt cargo-bed outlet supports up to 40 amps. These are published vehicle specifications, not independent measurements; actual equipment depends on the truck’s configuration. Check the outlet labels and the manual for the specific vehicle before planning a load.

Tesla describes Powershare as technology that lets the Cybertruck battery provide power through onboard outlets or the charge port. This broader capability should not be confused with the presence or rating of a particular bed outlet. See Tesla’s Powershare FAQ for its explanation of the system.

The CyberTent illustrates how bed hardware can support recreational accessories. Tesla lists it as compatible with Cyberbeast and Premium All-Wheel Drive vehicles, but it requires separately sold L-tracks. It is incompatible with Cybertruck MOLLE Panels and cannot be deployed with the Cybertruck Bed Cargo Divider installed. Availability can change; the listing showed it out of stock when checked.
