Yes—Tesla can change how some Model 3 headlights aim through a software update, without replacing or physically adjusting the lamps. Autoblog reports that software version 2026.38 introduces Dynamic Headlight Leveling on select Model 3 and Cybertruck vehicles. The reported rollout is limited; Tesla has not published a feature-specific eligibility list or independently confirmed the details in its support materials.
What the reported update changes
According to Autoblog’s October 5, 2026 report, Dynamic Headlight Leveling adjusts the aim of a vehicle’s low beams up or down in response to driving conditions and nearby traffic. The report associates the feature with Tesla software version 2026.38 and says it is reaching some Model 3 and Cybertruck vehicles.
The report describes a software-controlled change to low-beam aim—not new headlight hardware or a physical service adjustment. It does not provide measured results for visibility or glare reduction.
How it differs from adaptive high beams
Dynamic Headlight Leveling, as described in the report, concerns where the low beams point. Tesla’s owner manual describes Adaptive Headlights as a separate function: when enabled, individual high-beam pixels dim to reduce glare for approaching traffic, and the headlights adjust on curves. Tesla says availability and operation can vary by region, vehicle configuration, options, and software version. See the Model 3 owner’s manual.

These functions should not be treated as interchangeable: one reported feature adjusts low-beam aim, while the manual’s adaptive-headlight description covers high-beam pixel dimming and curve adjustment.
Which Model 3s can get it?
The available reporting describes an initial, limited rollout that includes some U.S. and UAE vehicles, but it does not establish a complete list by model year, trim, hardware, country, or VIN. Tesla’s manual also cautions that lighting features may vary by market and configuration. For a specific car, check the Tesla app: Tesla says it displays the upgrades currently available for that vehicle.

Tesla’s general software-update guidance says over-the-air upgrades depend on vehicle configuration and generally install while the car is parked and connected to Wi-Fi, unless otherwise specified. The guidance explains OTA updates in general; it does not confirm Dynamic Headlight Leveling, version 2026.38, or this rollout.

The reported feature is delivered as software, so the report does not describe a headlight replacement or a visit to adjust the lamps as a prerequisite. Tesla says OTA upgrades generally do not require a service visit. That is different from physical beam adjustment or inspection: Tesla’s manual includes a touchscreen service adjustment function, and its service documentation describes checking beam aim with a professional headlight tester. Those procedures concern physical adjustment and inspection, not downloading the reported feature.

- Universal availability: there is no published Tesla eligibility table in the cited materials.
- Measured performance: the report gives no test data quantifying visibility improvement or glare reduction.
- A safety guarantee: Tesla’s manual calls Adaptive Headlights a convenience feature subject to limitations and says drivers remain responsible for ensuring headlights are appropriate for weather and driving conditions.
- A recall remedy: Autoblog reports no indication that Dynamic Headlight Leveling addresses the separate headlamp safety campaign it mentions.
