Tegan Spencer, who won a Hyundai Kona in Telethon 2024’s car giveaway, told presenter Rove McManus that her son Nash had spent his first five months at Perth Children’s Hospital before dying in February 2020 from a heart condition. Spencer said that experience made Telethon deeply meaningful to her family.
What the Telethon winner shared
During the Sunday night broadcast, McManus called Tegan while she was watching at home. In the call, she explained why she had donated to Telethon. PerthNow reported on 20 October 2024 that she said Nash lived at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) for his first five months and died in February 2020 from a heart condition. Those details are attributed to Spencer’s account in the report.
“Telethon is everything . . . it’s very close to our heart,” she said, as quoted by PerthNow’s 20 October 2024 report.
Which car did she win, and what did she plan to do with it?
The original PerthNow report described the prize as a Hyundai vehicle. A follow-up published by The West Australian on 16 November identified the winner as Tegan Spencer and the car as a Hyundai Kona. Spencer said her family had recently bought a Hyundai Santa Fe and planned to sell the Kona back to Hyundai before it left the showroom.

Who won the second Telethon Hyundai?
The giveaway included two cars. The West Australian’s follow-up reported that Rosa Gillies won the second Hyundai. It described Gillies’s account of raising twins with cerebral palsy: she said they were still alive at age 40, despite an earlier expectation that they might not live beyond 15. That is Gillies’s family account, not a general statement about cerebral palsy.
