Tata Tigor EV vs MG Comet EV: Which Is Better for City Driving?

The MG Comet is easier to park in dense cities, while the Tata Tigor.ev offers more luggage space, range and DC-charging flexibility. Choose by space, passengers, charging access and local price.

For dense-city driving, the MG Comet EV is easier to place in narrow lanes and cramped parking spaces. The Tata Tigor.ev is the better all-rounder if you carry passengers or luggage, drive farther between charges, or depend on public DC fast charging. Neither is automatically the right choice. Your decision should follow your parking constraints, daily distance, charging access, passenger load, luggage requirements, and the exact local variant price.

Quick verdict

The Comet is the city specialist. Its much shorter and narrower body, four-seat cabin and tighter published turning circle reduce the effort of U-turns, parallel parking and negotiating crowded residential lanes. It makes the most sense for one or two occupants, short urban errands and an owner who can charge with AC equipment at home or work.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The Tigor.ev is the more versatile car. It has a conventional sedan body, a documented 316-litre boot, a larger battery, a higher manufacturer-published certified range and CCS2 DC-charging capability in the official specification sheet. Families, airport commuters, people carrying shopping or work equipment, and drivers who occasionally leave the city will generally find it easier to live with.

These are India-specific comparisons. Tata’s current product page and its older 2021 specification sheet publish different certified-range figures, while MG’s price FAQ warns that prices vary by region. Verify the current trim, equipment and dealer quotation before paying a booking amount.

Published specifications at a glance

City-driving factor Tata Tigor.ev MG Comet EV What it means
Body and dimensions 3,993 × 1,677 × 1,532 mm (official 2021 specification sheet) 2,974 × 1,505 × 1,640 mm (current official page) The Comet occupies substantially less road and parking space.
Turning circle 5.1 m (official 2021 sheet) 4.2 m (current official page) The Comet has the tighter published turning circle.
Seats and luggage Sedan body with 316 L boot (official 2021 sheet) Four seats; compact two-door city-car layout Tigor is more useful for luggage and regular rear-passenger duty.
Battery and certified range 26 kWh; 315 km ARAI-certified range on Tata’s current product page. The 2021 sheet lists 306 km ARAI range. 17.4 kWh; 230 km ARAI-certified range (current MG page) These are manufacturer/ARAI claims, not guaranteed real-world distances.
Charging CCS2; the 2021 sheet estimates 0–80% in 65 minutes on a 25 kW DC charger and about 8 hours 45 minutes from a 15 A plug point. Type 2 AC charging; MG’s current page says DC fast charging is not supported. Tigor offers more flexibility for public charging; Comet suits predictable home or destination charging.
Price information Obtain a current city-and-variant quotation; a reliable current local figure is not established here. MG FAQ: ₹7,79,800–₹10,06,800 ex-showroom. BaaS from ₹4.99 lakh plus ₹3.20/km; MG says prices can vary by region. Compare identical purchase structures, registration, insurance and expected kilometres.

The dimensions and turning-circle values come from different publication dates, so treat them as published specifications rather than a same-day independent measurement. The Tigor range discrepancy likewise reflects a current Tata page versus a 2021 Tata sheet, not a verified real-world test.

Which EV is easier to park?

Comet: the advantage in tight spaces

The Comet’s compact footprint is its strongest city advantage. A shorter nose-to-tail distance makes it easier to fit into undersized parking bays and to clear the end of a congested lane. Its narrower body gives the driver more margin beside parked scooters, walls and delivery vehicles. The tighter turning circle reduces the number of steering corrections required in basement ramps and dead-end streets.

The tall, upright proportions also give the Comet a small-car visual feel, although the published height is greater than the Tigor’s. Drivers should still check roof clearance in automated stackers and low basement entrances rather than assuming a small footprint guarantees compatibility.

Tigor: manageable, but not micro-car easy

The Tigor’s sedan length and wider body demand more planning in a crowded market or a narrow apartment parking slot. Its 5.1-metre published turning circle is workable for normal urban roads, but it will need more space for a full U-turn than the Comet. If your daily route includes tight 90-degree turns, informal roadside parking or frequent three-point turns, the Comet’s maneuverability will be noticeable every day.

Before choosing either car, measure your actual parking bay, gate width and turning approach. A nominally suitable slot can become unusable when a neighboring vehicle parks across the line or when a charging cable must reach the socket.

Passenger and luggage practicality

When the Tigor’s boot matters

The Tigor’s documented 316-litre boot is a meaningful advantage for airport bags, weekly groceries, a stroller or work equipment. The sedan layout separates luggage from the passenger compartment, which is useful when the cabin is full or when you do not want bags sliding around beside occupants.

Choose the Tigor if rear-seat use is routine rather than occasional. It is better suited to a household that carries three or four adults, even if most journeys are short. The extra exterior length is the trade-off for that flexibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the Comet’s cabin is enough

The Comet is a four-seat, two-door city car. It works well for a driver who usually travels alone or with one passenger and occasionally uses the rear seats for children or short trips. Entry to the rear requires operating the front-seat mechanism, so frequent adult rear-passenger use is less convenient than in a conventional four-door sedan.

MG’s compact layout prioritizes maneuverability over luggage volume. If your errands normally fit in a small bag or the rear seats can be folded or otherwise used according to the current trim’s instructions, that compromise may be acceptable. Confirm the exact cargo arrangement at the dealership; the published material establishes the seating concept but does not provide a comparable boot-volume figure.

Range: what the certified figures do—and do not—tell you

Tigor’s two official figures

Tata’s current Tigor.ev product page states a 26 kWh battery and a 315 km ARAI-certified range. Tata Motors’ official 2021 specification sheet lists the same battery capacity with a 306 km ARAI range. Quote the figure together with its source and version; do not present the older sheet as the current specification or silently replace it with the newer claim.

Comet’s published range

MG’s current Comet page lists a 17.4 kWh battery and 230 km ARAI-certified range. That figure is also a certification claim, not a promise that every trip will cover 230 km.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Planning a realistic city buffer

ARAI figures are useful for comparing the manufacturers’ stated positioning, but traffic, speed, air-conditioning use, passenger weight, tyre pressure, rain, gradients and battery temperature affect consumption. Keep a reserve for detours and charging queues instead of planning to arrive at zero. A driver covering a short, repeatable commute can tolerate a smaller buffer than someone crossing a large city with uncertain traffic.

No independent, like-for-like city range test is established for these two cars here. Treat the published numbers as a starting point and ask a dealer for the current vehicle’s battery warranty, usable-capacity information and any software or variant changes.

Charging: the biggest functional difference

Tigor’s DC flexibility

The official 2021 Tigor sheet specifies a CCS2 connector. It estimates a 0–80% charge in 65 minutes on a 25 kW DC charger and about 8 hours 45 minutes from a 15 A plug point. Those times are estimates tied to the stated equipment and conditions, not a guarantee for every charger or current trim.

DC capability matters when you cannot leave the car plugged in overnight, when a public destination has only a fast charger, or when an unexpected trip extends beyond your original plan. Confirm that the exact Tigor.ev variant you are buying retains the documented CCS2 hardware; model-year and trim equipment should not be assumed from an older sheet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Comet’s AC-only routine

MG’s current page lists Type 2 AC charging and explicitly says the Comet does not support DC fast charging. That is not a problem for an owner who parks at home or work long enough to recharge between trips. It becomes a serious limitation if your building has no reliable AC point, if you regularly make back-to-back intercity runs, or if public sites on your routes primarily offer DC chargers.

Price, BaaS and the cost of your driving pattern

How to read the Comet figures

MG’s official FAQ lists an ex-showroom range of ₹7,79,800 to ₹10,06,800 for the Comet and a BaaS option from ₹4.99 lakh plus ₹3.20 per kilometre. MG notes that prices may vary by region. Ex-showroom figures exclude registration, insurance, taxes, accessories and other on-road charges.

BaaS lowers the initial vehicle price but turns battery use into a distance-based bill. At ₹3.20 per kilometre, 1,000 billed kilometres would add ₹3,200 before any other ownership costs; your contract’s measurement rules, minimums, taxes and revisions must be confirmed in writing. The lower upfront number is therefore not automatically the lower total cost.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to compare with the Tigor

A dependable current Tigor.ev city price was not established in the available material, so obtain a written quote for the exact trim in your registration location. Compare it with the Comet on the same basis: outright purchase versus BaaS, ex-showroom versus on-road, insurance term, charger installation, financing, battery coverage and expected annual kilometres.

Build a simple three-year estimate using your own distance. Include electricity, scheduled maintenance, tyres, insurance renewals, registration-related costs and any BaaS kilometre charges. A car that costs less at delivery can cost more if your commute is long enough to accumulate substantial distance fees.

Which one fits common city-driver profiles?

Choose the Comet when most of these are true

  • Your neighborhood has narrow lanes, small parking bays or difficult basement turns.
  • You normally drive alone or with one passenger.
  • Your luggage is light and infrequent.
  • Your daily distance is comfortably within the certified-range envelope with a safety buffer.
  • You can charge reliably at home, work or a destination using AC.
  • You accept that the car cannot use DC fast chargers.
  • The local outright or BaaS quote remains attractive after adding registration and your expected per-kilometre fee.

Choose the Tigor.ev when these needs dominate

  • You regularly carry adults in the rear seats or need a proper separate boot.
  • You make longer urban commutes, airport runs or occasional out-of-town trips.
  • You want a higher manufacturer-published certified-range figure, while understanding it is not a real-world guarantee.
  • Your route depends on public DC fast charging or you want that fallback.
  • A sedan driving position and conventional four-door practicality matter more than the smallest possible footprint.
  • You have verified that the current variant includes the charging hardware and equipment you require.

A practical test-drive and buying checklist

  1. Measure the real parking route. Take the cars to your home or apartment entrance. Check gate width, ramp turns, pillar clearance and whether a charging cable can reach without crossing a walkway.
  2. Try the tightest maneuver. Perform a full-lock U-turn and reverse into your normal slot. Note how many corrections you need and whether mirrors provide adequate clearance.
  3. Load your actual luggage. Bring the bags, stroller, instrument case or work kit you carry. Do not substitute a visual inspection for a physical fit test.
  4. Use every seat you expect to use. Sit in the rear, test front-seat access in the Comet and check whether adults can tolerate the space for your normal journey.
  5. Verify charging at your addresses. Identify the socket location, electrical rating, earthing and cable route. Ask for installation requirements and what is included in the invoice.
  6. Confirm the exact variant in writing. Record battery capacity, connector, DC support, included cable, warranty terms, software features and delivery model. Do not rely on a generic model name.
  7. Get local, itemized prices. Request ex-showroom, on-road, insurance, registration, accessories, charger installation and financing separately. For BaaS, request the per-kilometre calculation and all contract conditions.
  8. Model your distance. Use your weekday commute, school runs, weekend errands and likely detours. Add a reserve so the decision does not depend on reaching the certified limit.

Important limitations when comparing the specifications

  • The Tigor dimensions, turning circle, boot capacity and charging estimates cited above come from an official 2021 specification sheet, while Tata’s current page supplies the newer range claim. Equipment can change by model year or trim.
  • The Comet dimensions, battery, range, charging statement and price information come from MG’s current official page and FAQ, which include a regional price caveat.
  • ARAI range figures are not independent city tests. Weather, traffic, speed and accessories can materially change consumption.
  • No like-for-like independent range or charging test is established for this comparison, so claims about real-world superiority would be unsupported.
  • Local service coverage, waiting time, financing and resale value are not quantified here; obtain current information for your city.

Bottom line for city driving

Buy the MG Comet EV if the defining problem is maneuvering: tight streets, tiny parking spaces, short trips and dependable AC charging. Its compact dimensions and tighter turning circle provide the clearest day-to-day advantage in a dense neighborhood.

Buy the Tata Tigor.ev if your city car must also be a family car. The sedan body, 316-litre boot, larger battery and documented CCS2/DC pathway make it the more flexible choice for passengers, luggage and trips that cannot be planned around overnight AC charging. Before signing, verify the current trim’s equipment, reconcile Tata’s dated range figures, and compare a local Tigor quote with the Comet’s outright and BaaS structures.
