If a Tata Tigor EV will not begin charging or stops unexpectedly, first read the portable charger indicators: House, Control Box, Vehicle and Fault. A House indication points toward the domestic supply, earthing or socket connection; Control Box and Vehicle indications require Tata EV authorised service. Do not open the charger, repair high-voltage components or force a locked connector.
What to do first when your Tigor EV will not charge
Stop and record exactly what happened. Note whether you are using the portable slow charger or a CCS2 DC fast charger, whether charging never started or stopped after beginning, and which indicator labels or lights are showing. Tata’s owner’s manual specifically introduces its troubleshooting table for situations where charging “is not starting or if it stops abruptly.” The indicator pattern is more useful to a service technician than a general description such as “the charger is dead.”

- Park safely, select the required charging mode and switch off unnecessary loads in the car.
- Inspect the cable, plug, portable charger housing and vehicle charging port without touching exposed conductors.
- Check that the plug is fully seated in the socket and that the charging gun is fully inserted in the vehicle.
- Read and record the House, Control Box, Vehicle and Fault indications before disconnecting anything.
- If the cable, socket or vehicle port is damaged, stop using it. If the connector is locked, do not pull or twist it forcefully.
The manual does not establish a universal reset sequence, and the available official information does not identify a single failure that applies to every Tigor EV. Repeatedly unplugging and retrying after a fault can conceal an electrical problem, so escalate when the safe connection check does not change the indication.
Understanding the Tigor EV charger indicators
The portable charger separates a possible home-supply problem from a control-box problem and a vehicle-side problem. Use the following table as an isolation guide, not as permission to dismantle equipment.

| Indicator or fault area | What the manual lists | Safe next action |
|---|---|---|
| House or home-interface indication | Improper earth connection, a phase-to-protective-earth short, domestic AC voltage below 190 V or above 250 V, or an improper plug/socket connection or rating. | Stop charging, check the plug and socket externally, and have a qualified electrician inspect supply, earthing and the circuit. Use a properly rated 15A socket for the specified connection case. |
| Control Box indication | A fault associated with the portable charger control box. | Contact a Tata Motors EV service engineer. Do not open, bypass or attempt to repair the control box. |
| Vehicle indication | A vehicle-side charging fault identified by the charger. | Contact the nearest Tata Motors EV Service Centre rather than attempting high-voltage repair. |
| Fault light or an unclear pattern | The precise cause depends on the complete indicator combination and model-year manual. | Record the pattern, verify a safe connection once, then use Tata’s authorised support route if it remains. |
Indicator labels can be read differently in a dark garage, and revisions of the owner’s manual may use different descriptions. Photograph the charger display if it is safe to do so; the image can help support staff identify the exact pattern.
Home-supply causes and checks
Domestic voltage outside the stated range
For the troubleshooting case covered by the manual, domestic AC below 190 V or above 250 V is outside the stated acceptable range. A supply can fluctuate during peak demand, after a local electrical fault or when a circuit is overloaded. A charger may refuse to start or stop when its protection detects an out-of-range condition.
Do not remove covers or probe a live outlet to investigate. If you have suitable electrical test equipment and the training to use it safely, a qualified electrician can measure the circuit under load. Otherwise, report the House indication and the time of day to the electrician or Tata support. The voltage thresholds are troubleshooting limits from the manual, not a recommendation to alter the vehicle or charger.
Earthing and phase-to-protective-earth faults
The manual lists improper earthing and a phase-to-protective-earth short among House-interface conditions. A socket can appear normal with ordinary appliances and still fail the checks required by an EV portable charger. Never bridge an earth connection, remove the earth pin, connect through an unapproved adapter or modify the earth pit yourself. Earthing and protective devices should be inspected by a qualified electrician.
Plug, socket and circuit rating
An incompletely inserted plug, a loose socket, heat damage or an outlet that is not rated for the charging load can interrupt charging. Tata’s documentation identifies a 15A socket for regular charging and specifically refers to socket rating in the troubleshooting information. That does not mean installing any 15A-looking outlet will solve a fault: the circuit, cable size, protective device, earthing and installation quality must also be appropriate.

- Indication Displays - LED display that can tell you the status as well as indicate errors while charging your electric vehicle.
With the circuit de-energised by a qualified professional, the electrician should check for loose terminals, scorching, melting, moisture, unusual odour and signs of overheating. Do not continue if the plug or wall outlet becomes hot, discoloured or noisy. A replacement outlet should be selected and installed professionally, not treated as a guaranteed cure for a vehicle-side problem.
Connection sequence and physical condition
Make sure the portable charger is connected exactly as described in the model-year manual. Keep the plug and control box dry, avoid extension leads unless Tata explicitly approves the arrangement for your vehicle, and keep the cable free from crushing or sharp bends. At the car, inspect the charging port for dirt, moisture, bent contacts or foreign objects without inserting metal tools. A damaged port or cable is a stop condition, not a cleaning experiment.

Control-box indication
A Control Box indication means the manual directs you to a Tata Motors EV service engineer. The portable unit contains electrical protection and switching components that are not intended for owner repair. Opening the enclosure can expose hazardous voltage, defeat safety controls and complicate warranty evaluation. Disconnect it safely, label it as faulty and arrange authorised service.
Vehicle indication
A Vehicle indication places the next step with the nearest Tata Motors EV Service Centre. Possible causes cannot be distinguished reliably from the outside: the symptom could involve communication, charging hardware or another vehicle system. The official material does not provide a consumer procedure for diagnosing an onboard charger, battery or other high-voltage component, so do not remove panels, access orange cables or attempt a battery reset.
Do not force a locked charging gun
The manual warns against forcing a locked connector. Charging equipment may remain locked while the car or charger considers the session active. Use the normal stop or unlock control described for your vehicle and charger; if it remains locked, request service assistance. Pulling against the latch can damage the inlet, connector or cable and create an additional electrical hazard.

Slow AC charging versus CCS2 fast charging
The Tigor.ev supports CCS2 for DC fast charging and regular charging from a 15A plug point, according to Tata Motors EV Support. These are different charging paths, so a failure on one does not automatically prove that the other has the same fault.

| Charging method | Connection described by Tata | Published expectation | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| DC fast charging | CCS2 | Approximately 1 hour from 0% to 80% | A standard-test-condition estimate, not a guaranteed time or a diagnosis. |
| Regular AC charging | 15A plug point | Approximately 8 hours 45 minutes from 0% to 80% | Also a standard-test-condition estimate; actual time varies by case. |
Those figures are supplied by Tata Motors EV Support and can vary with battery state, temperature, supply conditions and the charging equipment in use. A session taking longer than the headline estimate is not, by itself, proof of a failed battery or charger. Compare the indicator pattern and connection conditions before drawing a conclusion.
A safe, step-by-step home troubleshooting procedure
- Identify the equipment. Confirm whether the problem is with the portable 15A AC charger or a CCS2 DC station. Record the station or socket location and whether another charging point behaves differently, if trying another point is safe and authorised.
- Stop if anything is damaged. Do not use a frayed cable, cracked control box, burned plug, damaged wall socket or damaged vehicle inlet. Keep people away from the equipment and arrange inspection.
- Check the external connection. Confirm the wall plug is fully inserted into the correct socket and the vehicle connector is fully seated. Do not use a loose adapter or force the gun past its latch.
- Read the indicators. Write down the status of House, Control Box, Vehicle and Fault, including whether the pattern appeared immediately or after charging began. Take a photograph if it can be done without touching wet or damaged equipment.
- For a House indication, stop and arrange a supply check. The electrician should assess voltage, earthing, phase-to-protective-earth condition, socket connection and 15A circuit suitability. Do not change wiring or earthing yourself.
- For Control Box or Vehicle, escalate. Contact a Tata Motors EV service engineer or the nearest Tata Motors EV Service Centre as directed by the manual. Do not open the charger or access high-voltage vehicle parts.
- Recheck only after the safe cause is corrected. If an electrician confirms the supply and socket are safe, make one normal connection using the manual’s procedure. If the indication returns, stop and provide the recorded pattern to Tata support.
Symptoms that need immediate escalation
- Burning smell, smoke, arcing, melted plastic or visible charring at the plug, socket, control box or vehicle port.
- Water or other liquid inside the connector, socket or charger housing.
- A cable with exposed conductors, crushed insulation or a cracked connector.
- An outlet or plug that becomes unusually hot during charging.
- A connector that will not release through the normal vehicle or charger control.
- A persistent Control Box, Vehicle or Fault indication after the safe connection check.
- Repeated start-stop behaviour accompanied by a House indication or an unstable domestic supply.
In any of these cases, isolate the area without touching unsafe equipment and obtain qualified electrical or Tata EV service assistance. Do not keep retrying in the hope that a high-voltage fault clears itself.
Preparing for Tata EV service
Service can be more efficient when the technician receives a precise event record. Gather:
- The Tigor.ev model year and the revision of the owner’s manual supplied with the car.
- Whether the issue occurred on the portable 15A AC charger, a CCS2 DC charger or both.
- Battery state of charge when the session was attempted, if known.
- Whether charging failed immediately or stopped after a period of charging.
- The exact House, Control Box, Vehicle and Fault indicator pattern.
- Photos of the display and any visible damage, taken without handling unsafe parts.
- The date, time, location and whether the domestic circuit had other heavy loads running.
Ask Tata support or the service centre what inspection is required before transporting the vehicle. Do not assume a portable charger fault is a vehicle fault, or vice versa, until the authorised technician tests the relevant equipment.

Warranty context
Tata Motors EV Support lists headline warranty terms of 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, for the battery and motor, and 3 years or 125,000 km, whichever comes first, for the vehicle. These are support-FAQ terms subject to conditions and the documents for the individual vehicle. A charging symptom does not establish that a covered component has failed; retain service records and ask the authorised centre to assess eligibility under the applicable warranty.
What a charging problem does—and does not—prove
A House indication supports investigating the supply, earthing and socket before blaming the battery. A Control Box indication supports an authorised charger inspection. A Vehicle indication supports vehicle-side service. None of these labels, by itself, supplies a component-level diagnosis or a repair price.
There is no published incidence table in the cited Tata material showing which Tigor EV charging issue is statistically most common. The manual lists possible conditions for troubleshooting, but those possibilities should not be presented as a ranking of failures. Likewise, the quoted 0-to-80% times are useful expectations under standard conditions, not performance tests or guarantees for every car and charger.
Questions owners commonly ask
Can I use any household outlet?
No. Tata’s information identifies a 15A plug point for regular charging, while the manual also calls out socket rating, earthing and connection quality. Have a qualified electrician confirm that the complete circuit is suitable; a physically matching outlet is not enough.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Should I replace the wall socket first?
Only after an electrician identifies a socket or circuit issue. Replacing an outlet cannot correct a Control Box or Vehicle fault, and an incorrectly installed 15A socket can remain unsafe.

Can I reset the Tigor EV charger by switching it off repeatedly?
The available official instructions do not establish a universal reset procedure. Record the indicators, verify the safe connection once and use Tata authorised support when the fault persists.
Is slow charging always a battery problem?
No. AC supply voltage, earthing, socket rating, connection quality and charger or vehicle faults can all affect whether charging starts or stops. Charging-time estimates also vary under real conditions.
Can an electrician repair the portable charger?
An electrician can inspect the domestic supply, earthing and socket. The manual directs Control Box faults to a Tata Motors EV service engineer; do not open or repair the charger enclosure yourself.
What if charging works at one location but not another?
That contrast makes the charging location a useful clue, especially for a House indication, but it is not a diagnosis. Record both locations, equipment type and indicator pattern and provide them to the electrician or Tata service centre.
Bottom line for a non-charging Tigor EV
Use the charger’s indicators to choose the right responder. A House indication calls for a safe check of voltage, earthing, plug, socket and 15A circuit suitability by a qualified electrician. Control Box and Vehicle indications belong with Tata EV authorised service. Never force a locked connector, use damaged equipment or attempt high-voltage repairs. Tata’s CCS2 and 15A charging times are standard-condition estimates, so diagnose from the fault indication and safe inspection—not from charging time alone.
