For most buyers comparing the updated 2026 Tata Punch EV with the Citroën ë-C3, the Punch EV has the stronger published case: it starts at a lower reported ex-showroom price, offers two battery sizes, more power and a longer list of equipment. The ë-C3 is larger on paper and may suit shoppers who prefer its feel, but its comfort and local ownership support are best judged with a test drive. Neither car has a guaranteed real-world range figure; your choice should hinge on your budget, daily distance, charging access, trim and local dealer support.
Price and variants: compare the full deal, not just the starting figure
CarDekho’s comparison, published May 27, 2026, reports pan-India ex-showroom prices of ₹9.69–12.59 lakh for the Punch EV before BaaS and ₹12.90–13.53 lakh for the ë-C3. These are published figures, not a current city-level dealer quote. CarDekho’s comparison also reports a Punch BaaS starting price of ₹6.49 lakh plus ₹2.6 per kilometre; it says Citroën does not offer BaaS for the ë-C3.

BaaS lowers the reported upfront price but adds a per-kilometre charge. Compare it with the standard purchase price using your likely annual and total kilometres, and ask the dealer for the written contract terms. Request comparable quotes for the same city and trim, including registration, insurance, offers and offer expiry; the final on-road amount and BaaS economics depend on those details.

Battery and output figures are as reported in CarDekho’s comparison. Tata’s two battery choices give buyers a choice between lower capacity and more range potential, or a more powerful long-range version. The ë-C3 has one listed pack and lower output, so test both in the traffic and on the roads you regularly use rather than assuming specification differences alone settle the choice.

Range: distinguish certified figures from real-world evidence
Range figures are not interchangeable: the cited sources use different certification cycles, model years and methods. For the updated Punch EV, CarDekho reports 365–375 km MIDC Part I+II for the 30 kWh version, noting that figure was under certification in its article, and 468 km for the 40 kWh version. Tata.ev’s specification page also lists 365–375 km for 30 kWh and 468 km for 40 kWh. Tata.ev’s specifications list the figures, while Tata Motors’ June 20, 2026 release calls the 40 kWh model’s range approximately 355 km on its C75 measure and 468 km ARAI range. The approximately 355 km C75 figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test result. Tata Motors’ launch release provides that attribution.
For the ë-C3, Citroën’s September 2024 brochure gives 246 km full-charge range on the MIDC cycle. A February 2023 launch release instead gave 320 km and specified ARAI MIDC I. The figures come from sources of different vintages and cycle descriptions, so do not treat them as a like-for-like comparison of the same current vehicle. Check the exact model year and specification with Citroën before relying on a quoted range. Citroën’s September 2024 brochure and its 2023 launch release show the published figures.

What a back-to-back test found
In Autocar India’s 2024 mixed city/highway comparison, an earlier 35 kWh Punch EV Long Range returned 229 km and the ë-C3 returned 228 km. Reported efficiency was 6.54 km/kWh for the Punch and 7.8 km/kWh for the ë-C3. The test took place at ambient temperatures of around 40°C, which affected the climate-control workload; the journalist noted that “Both cars were tested with high ambient temperatures of around 40 degrees, which made the climate control work hard to maintain a cool cabin temperature.” This is useful context, not a prediction for every driver or climate, and it does not measure the updated 2026 Punch. For your own use, estimate range from the distance you cover between charges and leave a buffer for weather, speed, traffic, cabin cooling and detours. If you regularly make longer trips, check charging stops on your actual routes; if most journeys are short and you can charge at home, the certified headline figure may matter less than convenience and cost.

Charging: check the supply and equipment you will actually use
CarDekho reports these charging times: its comparison lists 10–100% home charging from a 15 A plug in 9.4 hours for the 30 kWh Punch, 13.5 hours for the 40 kWh Punch and 10.5 hours for the ë-C3. For 10–80% DC charging, it gives 56 minutes for either Punch battery on a 50 kW unit and 57 minutes for the ë-C3; that comparison does not specify the ë-C3 DC charger capacity.
Citroën’s September 2024 brochure lists a 3.3 kW onboard charger, CCS2 standard, 10–100% in 10 hours 30 minutes from a 15 A socket and 10–80% in 57 minutes from a DC fast charger. It says charging time varies with battery condition, charger specifications and ambient temperature. The brochure’s figures and caveat are in Citroën’s brochure.

Citroën says a home charging cable is supplied as standard and describes a Type 2 charging point in its owner FAQ. Do not assume you need to buy another cable. Before booking either car, ask what equipment is included for the specific variant, confirm the connector and rating, and check whether your household supply and parking arrangement support the intended charging setup. Charging times are estimates, not guarantees.

CarDekho’s 2026 equipment comparison lists the Punch EV with six airbags, ESC, three-point belts for all occupants, ISOFIX child-seat anchorage, hill-hold and hill-descent control, TPMS and a 360-degree camera. It lists the ë-C3 with two airbags and a rear parking camera, without several of those controls. Its Punch convenience list includes ventilated seats, automatic climate control, wireless charging and a sunroof; the ë-C3 is listed with auto up/down power windows for all doors. Verify the equipment on the exact trim you are considering, because features vary by variant. CarDekho’s comparison is the source for these listed items.

These are equipment differences, not comparative crash-test results. No conclusion about crash protection should be drawn from the feature list alone.
Size and cabin fit: see whether the ë-C3’s extra length matters to you
CarDekho lists the ë-C3 at 3,981 mm long with a 2,540 mm wheelbase, compared with 3,880 mm and 2,445 mm for the Punch EV. The ë-C3 is therefore longer and has the longer wheelbase on those figures. That may be relevant if you are comparing passenger or luggage needs, but exterior dimensions do not establish usable cabin or boot space. Sit in both cars with the people and child seats you expect to carry, and try the luggage you normally take. CarDekho’s comparison lists the dimensions.
Warranty and local support: get the written terms before booking
Citroën’s September 2024 brochure lists private-user coverage of seven years/140,000 km for the battery, five years/100,000 km for the electric motor and three years/125,000 km for the vehicle. Its FAQ also states seven years/140,000 km battery coverage. The terms and figures appear in the brochure and the owner FAQ.
Tata.ev’s specification page describes a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty with unlimited kilometres for the first registered private owner of the 40 kWh Punch EV. That eligibility qualification matters: “lifetime” is not an unrestricted promise for every owner or variant. Ask for the current written warranty terms for your exact vehicle, including transferability, service requirements and exclusions. Tata.ev’s specification page states the first-owner condition.
Warranty coverage cannot replace convenient service access. Check which authorized service locations support each EV near your home and regular routes, and ask about expected service arrangements for your particular model and location.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Punch EV as your first car to inspect if the lower reported starting price, choice of battery, higher listed output or broader listed equipment set is most important. Compare the 30 kWh and 40 kWh versions against your regular distance and budget rather than paying for capacity you will not use.
- Give the ë-C3 a serious test drive if its larger listed dimensions appeal to you or you prefer its driving and cabin feel. Confirm the current specification, included charging equipment and nearby service support before deciding.
- Make the final call from a written local quote that covers the same city, trim, registration and insurance assumptions. If considering Punch BaaS, calculate its per-kilometre cost over your expected ownership distance and read the complete contract.
