Short answer: Tata’s India range has several models with at least one variant below ₹30 lakh ex-showroom. The strongest fits depend on what you need: Nexon for a compact petrol, diesel or CNG family SUV; Nexon EV for an electric compact SUV; Curvv for a lower-priced Tata SUV-style option; Harrier for a larger five-seat diesel SUV; Safari for three-row seating; and Sierra, Curvv EV or Harrier EV if their exact variant, charging access and price suit your use. The Harrier EV range crosses ₹30 lakh, so only some versions meet the ceiling.
All figures in this shortlist are ex-showroom orientation prices, not the amount you will pay on the road. Registration, insurance, taxes, handling or logistics charges, accessories and local fees can move the final total substantially. Confirm the exact variant and obtain a dated, city-specific written quote before booking.

What “under ₹30 lakh” means for a Tata car
The ₹30 lakh limit is meaningful only when you define the price basis. The ranges below are ex-showroom figures reported by CarDekho for October 2026. They are not on-road prices and are not a guarantee for a particular city, dealer, fuel type or variant. A model can begin well below the ceiling and still have higher trims above it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor an on-road decision, ask the authorised dealer to itemise the invoice for your registration city. The quote should identify the exact powertrain, gearbox, model year, manufacturing month where available, insurance choice, registration and road-tax amounts, optional accessories, warranty products and delivery-related charges. Prices and equipment can change without notice.

Indicative Tata price ranges below and around ₹30 lakh
Price basis: ex-showroom; city: not specified in the national listing; date: October 2026. CarDekho figures are third-party orientation data. “Variants under ₹30 lakh” is the relevant interpretation where a range crosses the cap.
| Model | Reported ex-showroom range | Fits the ₹30 lakh ceiling? | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nexon | ₹7.40–14.52 lakh | Yes, all listed versions are below the cap | Fuel, gearbox and edition of the selected trim |
| Harrier | ₹13.00–26.11 lakh | Yes, all listed versions are below the cap | Diesel trim, manual or automatic availability and equipment |
| Safari | ₹13.40–26.91 lakh | Yes, all listed versions are below the cap | Current three-row configuration and trim equipment |
| Curvv | ₹10.00–19.00 lakh | Yes, all listed versions are below the cap | Exact engine, transmission and feature list |
| Sierra | ₹11.49–21.59 lakh | Yes, all listed versions are below the cap | Current variant specifications and delivery availability |
| Curvv EV | ₹17.19–19.69 lakh | Yes, all listed versions are below the cap | Exact battery variant, charging setup and equipment |
| Nexon EV | ₹12.49–17.89 lakh | Yes, all listed versions are below the cap | Battery/trim combination, charging access and included equipment |
| Harrier EV | ₹21.79–30.54 lakh | Only variants priced below ₹30 lakh fit | Exact variant price; the top of the reported range exceeds the cap |
Do not read a range as a recommendation or as a claim that every variant is available in every city. Tata’s official model and variant pages are the right place to check current ordering details, while a dealer’s dated quotation is the practical check on local taxes, stock and delivery.
Choose by the job the car must do
For a compact family SUV with several fuel choices: Nexon
The Nexon is the most flexible starting point if your budget is below ₹30 lakh but your fuel and usage pattern are undecided. Tata’s January 2025 brochure documents a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel and petrol-CNG configurations. Gearbox choices and equipment vary by variant, so select the powertrain first and then verify which transmission is paired with it.
The brochure lists a 3,995 mm length and a 2,498 mm wheelbase. Those dimensions suit buyers who want a relatively compact footprint for urban parking while retaining a family-SUV layout. They do not, by themselves, establish cabin room, luggage capacity, fuel economy or ride quality; those should be checked in person.
- Choose it when: you want one model line that can be specified with petrol, diesel or CNG, and you value easier city manoeuvring over a large-SUV footprint.
- Check before booking: whether the chosen CNG, petrol or diesel trim has the manual or automatic transmission you want, and which safety and convenience items are standard on that exact grade.
- Do not assume: that a feature shown on a top edition is included on every lower variant.
For an electric compact SUV: Nexon EV
The Nexon EV is the straightforward Tata option for buyers who can charge reliably at home, work or another regular location and want an electric vehicle in a compact format. The reported October 2026 range sits entirely below ₹30 lakh ex-showroom.

Use the exact variant page to compare battery version, charging hardware, included equipment and delivery timing. The material available for this shortlist does not establish current range, charging-time or battery-warranty figures, so do not use an unverified number to calculate running costs. Before purchase, confirm whether your parking space can support the required electrical installation and how you will charge on longer journeys.
For a Tata SUV-style model at a middle-of-the-range price: Curvv
Every Curvv version in the reported listing is below ₹20 lakh ex-showroom, leaving more headroom for registration, insurance or a higher trim than the ₹30 lakh ceiling would allow on larger models. The available evidence does not provide enough current official configuration detail to make a complete engine, gearbox or equipment comparison here.
Ask for a current specification sheet that names the engine, transmission, seating configuration, wheel and tyre specification, driver-assistance or safety equipment and boot arrangement of the exact variant. A showroom display car can be a different grade from the one in your quotation.
For a larger five-seat diesel SUV: Harrier
Harrier suits buyers who need more physical space and a larger five-seat SUV format than a compact model. Tata’s 2025 brochure specifies a 1,956 cc turbo-diesel producing 125 kW (170 PS) at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. These are manufacturer brochure specifications, not independent road-test measurements.
The brochure shows manual and automatic transmission availability varying by trim. Name the gearbox in your enquiry rather than asking for “an automatic” generally, then verify that the exact combination is orderable in your city. The reported Harrier range remains below ₹30 lakh ex-showroom, but a higher on-road total can still exceed your personal budget after local charges.

- ✅【360° FREE ROTATION】 - With an adjustable swivel ball joint, you can rotate your smartphone or device at your own will, providing the best viewing angle. Quickly pick and place with one hand, free your hands and make calls and GPS navigation more convenient
- Choose it when: you regularly carry adults and luggage and prefer a larger five-seat diesel SUV over a compact footprint.
- Check before booking: the selected trim’s transmission, seating and equipment list, because brochure specifications do not prove that every feature is standard across the range.
- Budget carefully: for registration, insurance and other city-specific charges in addition to the ex-showroom figure.
For three-row family seating: Safari
Safari is the Tata choice in this shortlist for buyers who need a three-row layout. The October 2026 listing places its reported range below ₹27 lakh ex-showroom, so every listed version is within the stated pre-tax ceiling, subject to confirmation of the exact current variant.
Tata’s August 5, 2025 release announced introductory prices of ₹18.99 lakh for Harrier Adventure X and ₹19.99 lakh for Safari Adventure X+. Those were launch figures at that time, not current all-city prices. Use them only as historical context and obtain a fresh quote.
Ask the dealer to demonstrate access to the third row with the middle row in its normal position, show the luggage space in the seating configuration you will actually use and provide the present equipment list. Confirm whether the named trim is still available and whether the quote is for the same model year as the display vehicle.
For a newly listed Tata model: Sierra
Sierra appears in the October 2026 third-party listing at ₹11.49–21.59 lakh ex-showroom. That places the reported range comfortably below ₹30 lakh, but the sources available here do not provide enough current official configuration detail for a full specification comparison.
Treat Sierra as a model to investigate rather than a default recommendation. Request the live variant sheet, powertrain and transmission details, seating information, safety equipment, warranty terms and delivery estimate in writing. Compare the exact quoted grade with the alternatives on this list, not with a headline starting price.

For an electric SUV with a higher budget ceiling: Curvv EV
Curvv EV is reported at ₹17.19–19.69 lakh ex-showroom, so the listed versions are below ₹30 lakh. It can make sense when you want an electric model with more budget room than the Nexon EV range provides, but the decision still depends on charging access and the exact battery and equipment variant.
The available material does not verify current range, charging time or battery-warranty figures. Obtain those details from the current Tata variant documentation, and compare the charging connector, supplied cable or charger, installation responsibility and public-charging plan with your daily route.
For a larger electric SUV: Harrier EV
Harrier EV is the model that most clearly straddles the budget. Its reported range is ₹21.79–30.54 lakh ex-showroom: lower versions are under ₹30 lakh, while the highest reported versions are not.
Do not use the model name alone when setting a budget. Put the exact Harrier EV variant and its ex-showroom price on the dealer quote, then add your city’s registration, insurance and other charges. The current sources do not verify range, charging time or battery-warranty figures, so those must be confirmed before you compare ownership costs with a petrol or diesel Tata.

Powertrain and transmission checks that prevent a costly mismatch
- Write down your weekly distance and route. Include short urban trips, highway days, traffic-heavy commutes and the number of passengers you normally carry.
- Choose the energy source. Petrol is the simplest choice where flexible refuelling matters; diesel can suit buyers who prefer the Harrier’s documented diesel configuration; CNG requires dependable access to CNG stations; an EV requires predictable charging access.
- Specify the gearbox. Tata’s availability is variant-dependent. Ask whether the exact trim is manual or automatic and identify the gearbox designation on the quotation.
- Match seating to real use. A compact five-seat model, a larger five-seat SUV and a three-row Safari solve different space problems. Count child seats, adult passengers and luggage rather than choosing by badge.
- Confirm the equipment grade. Have the salesperson mark every must-have item on the current specification sheet. Do not transfer a top-trim feature to a lower variant by assumption.
How to calculate whether it is really under your budget
Use the ex-showroom number only as the first line of the calculation. Your working budget should be:

- Ex-showroom price of the exact variant
- Registration and road tax for your state and city
- Insurance, including the policy and coverage you actually select
- Applicable local, handling or logistics charges shown by the dealer
- Accessories, extended warranty or service packages you choose
- Any home-charging installation or electrical work for an EV
Ask for two versions of the quote if you are comparing cars: one with only mandatory charges and one with optional items clearly separated. That prevents an apparently cheaper model from hiding a different insurance or accessory assumption.
Safety and equipment: compare the trim, not the brochure headline
This shortlist does not establish an independent comparative safety ranking, crash result or real-world reliability result. Tata brochures and model pages provide manufacturer specifications and equipment information; they do not replace an independent test for every variant.
For each candidate, obtain the current trim-level list and check the items that matter to you: airbags, electronic stability systems, parking sensors or cameras, child-seat anchor points, braking assistance, lighting, tyre specification and driver displays. Record whether each item is standard, optional or unavailable on the exact grade. A higher equipment count is not automatically a better match if it forces you into a powertrain, seating layout or price you do not need.
EV-specific checks before you sign
- Charging location: confirm that you have a legal, practical parking position for regular charging.
- Electrical capacity: ask who assesses the wiring, meter and installation requirements and what is included in the quoted price.
- Long-trip plan: map how you will charge away from home and what you will do if a station is busy or unavailable.
- Variant documentation: get current range, charging-time and battery-warranty information for the exact battery and trim; those figures are not established in the evidence used for this article.
- Delivery and software: ask whether the vehicle is an existing stock unit, which model year it is, and what updates or connected services are included.
A practical dealer-and-test-drive checklist
- Take a screenshot or printout of the exact online variant you are considering, then ask the dealer to confirm that it is orderable in your city.
- Request a dated quotation showing ex-showroom, registration, insurance and every optional charge as separate lines.
- Check the VIN or manufacturing information when a specific stock vehicle is allocated, and ensure the quotation identifies the same model year and trim.
- Test the driving position, second-row space, child-seat fit, boot access and visibility with the people who will use the car.
- For Safari, use the third row and load luggage in the seating arrangement you expect to use; for an EV, inspect the charging port location and discuss installation.
- Confirm waiting time, cancellation terms, payment milestones, warranty coverage and the process for resolving a delivery mismatch.
Which Tata car is best under ₹30 lakh?
There is no single best choice without a use case. Choose Nexon when compact dimensions and petrol, diesel or CNG flexibility matter most. Choose Nexon EV for a compact electric car with dependable charging. Choose Curvv or Sierra when their exact current variants deliver the style, space and equipment you want while leaving budget headroom. Choose Harrier for a larger five-seat diesel SUV, Safari when three rows are essential, Curvv EV for an electric option in the middle of this price band, and the lower Harrier EV variants when you need a larger electric SUV and can verify both the variant price and charging plan.
Before paying a booking amount, compare the exact written quotation, current equipment sheet and delivery commitment in your registration city. That is the only reliable way to turn a national ex-showroom range into a real under-₹30-lakh purchase decision.
