The Tata Aeris iCNG AMT brings a smoother-looking, better-equipped take on the Tigor, with the convenience of an automatic and some luggage space left despite its CNG cylinders. But its five-speed AMT is slow to respond and can launch jerkily, while the engine gets noisy and vibrates at higher revs. It makes most sense for relaxed urban driving, not frequent highway overtaking.
Driving impressions below are from Autocar India’s first-drive review, published 6 October 2026; they are not independent test results.
What is the Tata Aeris iCNG AMT?
The Aeris is a reworked Tigor with updated styling, a revised cabin and additional equipment. Its front-end design has Tiago-like cues, while the Tigor’s sloping, coupe-like roofline remains. The iCNG powertrain pairs a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, rated at 76hp and 97Nm, with either a five-speed manual or five-speed AMT. Autocar India drove the AMT for its first-drive review.
How does the AMT drive?
Autocar India found the car adequate around town when driven at a modest pace, but noted a delay between accelerator input and response, jerky starts from rest, and slow acceleration for highway overtakes. Reviewer Dipan Sur wrote: “The AMT also makes starts from standstill quite jerky, which can get tiresome in stop-and-go traffic.” Paddle shifters allow the driver to request manual gear changes.

The review praised the ride comfort over broken roads and described the car as composed at highway speeds. The trade-off is refinement: engine noise and vibration become pronounced above 2,500rpm, and wind and road noise are audible at speed. The review drove only the AMT, so it does not establish how the manual compares in a direct back-to-back test.
How much boot space does the iCNG have?
Two CNG cylinders sit inside the boot, with a 13-inch spare wheel mounted underneath the car. Tata had not disclosed an official boot-volume figure in the review. Autocar India said the remaining space could take a couple of backpacks and a small luggage bag, but buyers should check the actual fit with their own bags before relying on it for regular family trips.

The fuel lid is designed to cut the ignition when opened as a refuelling safety measure. The review also says the 10.25-inch infotainment system’s 360-degree camera can record like a dashcam. Footage can be viewed on the infotainment display, saved to a USB drive or accessed on a phone via QR code. The review does not state USB format or capacity requirements, so confirm drive compatibility before buying storage for recordings.
What mileage can you expect?
As of the 6 October 2026 review, Tata had not published an official iCNG efficiency figure. Autocar India estimated 25–30km/kg in real-world use, but explicitly said it had not completed its standardized mileage test. Treat that range as an unverified reviewer expectation, not a tested result or a promise of running costs.

- REPLACES CLS112-6 AND CNG112: A direct-fit coalescing filter element for compressed natural gas fuel systems. It matches the original part numbers CLS112-6 and CNG112, so you can swap it for the old element.
- VEHICLE FITMENT: Ford Crown Victoria 1996–2004, Ford E-250 and E-350 1997–2004, Ford F-150 2000–2003 (dedicated CNG), Chevrolet Silverado 2500 2002–2003, GMC Sierra 2500 2002–2007, Honda Civic GX / Natural Gas 1998–2015. Check your old filter's part number before you order.
- REMOVES OIL, MOISTURE AND PARTICLES: The coalescing media traps compressor oil aerosols, water and debris before they reach the regulator and injectors. That keeps fuel delivery clean and helps prevent rough idle and injector problems.
- BUILT FOR CNG PRESSURE: Made to hold up in high-pressure natural gas systems. It keeps filtering steadily between service intervals on fleet vans, pickups and daily drivers.
- SIMPLE MAINTENANCE PART: Comes with new O-rings for a leak-free seal. Replace during routine CNG system service and always depressurize the system first.
Autocar India also reported that CNG cars accounted for nearly 22 percent of passenger-vehicle sales in FY2026, compared with around 12–13 percent in FY2023. The review passage does not identify the original publisher of those figures.
What changes inside, and which features stand out?
The cabin gets a lighter beige theme, revised seats, rear air vents, a 65-watt Type-C charging port and a rotary selector for the AMT. The top Accomplished trim adds ventilated front seats. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen and 360-degree camera carry over; the camera’s recording function can be useful for drivers who want footage as well as a parking view.

What safety equipment and crash-test result does it have?
Autocar India lists six airbags, rear ISOFIX anchors, rear parking sensors, and three-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats as standard. Higher variants add equipment including a 360-degree camera, tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and electronic stability control (ESP) with traction control.
The review notes that the pre-facelift Tigor received four stars from Global NCAP in 2020. That rating is for the older Tigor, not the Aeris. As of the review’s publication date, no Bharat NCAP test result for the Aeris had been reported.

What does the Aeris iCNG AMT cost?
Autocar India’s review body gives an ex-showroom range of ₹5.70 lakh to ₹9.10 lakh, while its model listing shows ₹5.30 lakh to ₹9.75 lakh. Because those published ranges conflict, confirm the current price for the exact variant with Tata or a dealer before comparing offers; these are ex-showroom figures, not on-road prices.
Should you consider the Tata Aeris iCNG AMT?
Consider it if your priority is automatic convenience in town, a comfortable ride, useful equipment and a CNG layout that leaves room for a limited amount of luggage. Before choosing, test the AMT in stop-start traffic and on the roads you use most, paying particular attention to launch smoothness and response when joining or overtaking at speed.
If you regularly make highway trips, need to carry several large bags, or are sensitive to engine noise and vibration, compare alternatives and assess their gearbox response, boot layout, safety equipment by variant and independently tested fuel economy. The available review does not establish a segment-leading advantage over competing CNG sedans.
