Suzuki’s new e SKY starts at ¥2.12 million in Japan, just below the reported ¥2.14 million starting price for BYD’s Racco. The ¥2.12 million price converts to roughly $13,500, but that dollar figure is an approximate media conversion—not a U.S. price. Suzuki announced the mini passenger EV on October 6, 2026, and Japanese sales are scheduled to begin November 16.
What the Suzuki e SKY costs in Japan
Suzuki’s Japanese manufacturer suggested retail prices include consumption tax. The A grade is made to order. The listed prices exclude the recycling fee, insurance, taxes other than consumption tax, and registration-related costs. The starting-price comparison is close, not a general claim that Suzuki is cheaper across every grade or market. Jiji Press, republished by Nippon.com, reports a ¥2.14 million starting price for BYD’s Racco; Electrek reports ¥2.145 million. Nippon.com’s Jiji Press report and Electrek’s report give slightly different rounded figures, but both put the two base prices within a narrow range.
Range, battery and efficiency
Suzuki lists a 26 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, a Japanese WLTC-rated range of 310 km, and WLTC AC energy consumption of 97 Wh/km. These are certified test-cycle figures, not a guarantee of distance in everyday driving. Suzuki says actual results vary with weather, traffic congestion, driving style and air-conditioning use. Its description of 97 Wh/km as “class-leading” is based on Suzuki’s own October 2026 survey of Japanese WLTC values, rather than an independent ranking. Suzuki’s release identifies the battery chemistry but does not name its manufacturer. Electrek reports that BYD’s battery unit supplies it; treat that as a media report, not as a supplier confirmation from Suzuki. The distinction matters: a BYD battery supplier does not make the e SKY a BYD vehicle, and the reported supply arrangement is less firmly established than the specifications in Suzuki’s announcement.
What the e SKY is designed for
Suzuki describes the e SKY as a mini passenger EV developed under its “Easy to Switch” concept for daily driving. It uses Suzuki’s HEARTECT-e EV platform and a compact, oil-cooled eAxle. Suzuki says its weight-saving and efficiency measures support the published range and consumption figures. Suzuki has stated a target sales volume of 1,000 vehicles per month. That is a company target, not a sales result or a measure of delivery availability.
How the listed subsidy affects the price
Suzuki’s product information lists a ¥568,000 national CEV subsidy for registrations from October 6 through December 31, 2026. It is conditional: applicants must meet program requirements and apply by the applicable deadline, and funding is subject to the remaining program budget. It should not be treated as a guaranteed discount or as the e SKY’s assured net price. What to compare with the BYD Racco
Because the reported Japanese starting prices are nearly alike, the headline comparison alone does not determine which car is the better fit. Compare the exact grade and equipment, certified WLTC range and consumption, battery capacity and how confidently its supplier is identified, eligibility for subsidies, total ownership and registration costs, and expected availability. The e SKY’s Japanese launch schedule does not establish availability in other countries.
