Suzuki stopped distributing new cars in the continental United States after announcing its exit from automobile marketing in November 2012. It did not end every Suzuki business in the country: the company said it would transition dealers into service and parts providers, and its current U.S. automotive pages still direct owners to local providers for service and certified parts. Availability depends on your location and vehicle, so contact a provider before relying on a repair or part.
Why did Suzuki stop selling cars in the U.S.?
On November 6, 2012, Suzuki Motor Corporation announced that its U.S. subsidiary, American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC), would wind down automobile marketing and discontinue automobile distribution in the continental United States. ASMC’s board had resolved to begin Chapter 11 reorganization the previous day. The announcement described the earlier distributor’s activity as excluding Hawaii, so the decision should not be generalized beyond the scope Suzuki specified.
Suzuki said it could not sustain profitability in automobile marketing. It cited currency and economic conditions, market trends, its primarily small-car lineup, projected sales volume, and stricter U.S. environmental and safety regulations. The company said it saw better prospects in motorcycles, ATVs, and marine products and would redirect resources toward those businesses. For historical context, ASMC reported 25,358 automobile sales for full-year 2012 in a January 2013 announcement. That figure describes sales during that year; it is not a count of current owners or service providers. The company’s January 2013 sales announcement also said warranties would be honored and parts and service would be provided through its network.

Does Suzuki still service cars in the U.S.?
Suzuki’s plan at the time was to convert much of its automobile dealer network into authorized service and parts dealers, with the stated goal of honoring warranties and keeping service and parts available. Suzuki Motor Corporation’s 2013 annual report says Suzuki Motor of America assumed the U.S. business on April 1, 2013, focusing on motorcycles, ATVs, and outboard motors, while automobile parts and service supply succeeded the previous operation.
Suzuki’s current automotive FAQ still directs owners to a local Suzuki service provider for service and certified Suzuki parts. The contact page offers a provider locator and lists Suzuki Motor USA Automotive Customer Service at 714-572-1490 for other questions or comments. It says Suzuki Motor USA, LLC can assist automotive customers in the continental United States and Alaska.

How to find a provider
- Open Suzuki’s contact page and use its service-provider locator.
- Enter your ZIP code or city and state to find providers in your area.
- Call a provider before traveling. Confirm that it is active, can work on your model, and has or can source the part or service you need.
The locator is a starting point, not a guarantee of nearby coverage or available inventory. The Suzuki pages do not establish how many providers are operating or what each one stocks.
Can you still get parts for a Suzuki car?
Suzuki’s FAQ points owners to local providers for certified Suzuki parts, and its site links to Manuals and Service Tools. Call with the model year, model, and vehicle identification number (VIN), and ask the provider to confirm fitment and availability before ordering. The cited owner-support pages do not show live, model-by-model inventory, so a listing or locator result alone cannot confirm that a particular part is on hand.

If considering an independent shop, aftermarket component, or used part, distinguish it from Suzuki-certified service and parts. Check that any component fits the exact vehicle and ask how the choice affects applicable coverage before authorizing work.
Are Suzuki car warranties still honored?
Suzuki’s FAQ describes warranty terms for new 2012 vehicles, not blanket coverage for every Suzuki now on the road. It says the new-vehicle warranty was transferable and generally included the following terms:

These are historical terms for specified new 2012 vehicles, not proof that a particular used car remains covered. Actual eligibility can depend on the vehicle’s original use, mileage, dates, warranty booklet, and any applicable special coverage. Consult the relevant booklet and ask a local provider to check the vehicle’s circumstances. Suzuki’s FAQ provides the historical terms and directs owners to the booklet and a provider.

Suzuki’s automotive Campaigns archive includes notices for safety recalls, emissions recalls, service campaigns, and special warranty extensions. Examples include a 2019 safety recall notice for certain 2012–2013 SX4 vehicles, a 2020 notice for certain 2006–2013 Grand Vitara vehicles, a 2021 Kizashi notice, and a 2018 Equator service campaign. Those examples do not determine whether a specific vehicle is eligible. Check the VIN and confirm any notice with a provider.

Did Suzuki go out of business?
No. The 2012 decision concerned automobile marketing and distribution in the continental United States, not every Suzuki operation. Suzuki Motor of America took over U.S. business in 2013 with a focus on motorcycles, ATVs, and outboard motors, while automobile parts and service supply continued under the successor operation. That history explains why Suzuki can stop selling new cars in this market while still directing existing car owners to automotive support.
