Car and Driver reported increases of $750 to $2,055, with the Solterra excluded. Those model figures came from a dealer notice the outlet said had since been deleted, so they are historical reported amounts—not today’s prices.
How much did Subaru raise prices?
Car and Driver reported on May 27, 2025, that the increases ranged from $750 to $2,055, depending on model and trim. The outlet attributed the detailed amounts below to a dealer notice that had been deleted. Treat them as figures reported at the time, not as a current MSRP list.
| Model | Reported May 2025 increase |
|---|---|
| Crosstrek | $750 |
| Impreza | $750 |
| Ascent | $1,085 to $2,055, depending on trim |
| BRZ | $2,000 |
| WRX | $2,000 |
| Legacy | $1,600 |
| Outback | $1,715 to $1,820 |
| Forester | $1,075 to $1,600 |
| Solterra | No increase reported in that round |
All amounts are from Car and Driver’s May 27, 2025 report, which cited the deleted dealer notice for model-level figures. The report described the Solterra as the only model that avoided that round of increases. Car and Driver’s report
What reason did Subaru give?
Subaru’s statement, quoted by Car and Driver, said: “The changes were made to offset increased costs while maintaining a solid value proposition for the customer. Subaru pricing is not based on the country of origin of its products.” The outlet also characterized the explanation as a response to current market conditions. Reuters similarly reported that Subaru cited “current market conditions.”

The distinction matters: Subaru confirmed the price changes, but Car and Driver said its spokesperson did not outright confirm that tariffs caused them. Reuters also reported that Subaru did not cite tariffs in its statement. The available statements therefore support saying that Subaru cited increased costs and market conditions—not that the company attributed this specific increase to tariffs. How do tariffs and other costs fit into the explanation?
Subaru Corporation’s general business-risk disclosures identify raw materials, logistics, energy and labor as possible sources of higher costs. The company also says U.S. tariff policies may raise procurement costs for imported parts and finished vehicles, and that cost increases may be passed on through product prices when cost-improvement efforts cannot absorb them.
