They point to different powertrain directions for Subaru’s performance identity, but Subaru’s announcements do not confirm production plans or give detailed performance specifications.
What Subaru showed at Japan Mobility Show 2025
Subaru’s exhibit opened on October 29, 2025, with press days October 29–30 and public days October 31–November 9. The company identified Performance-E STI and Performance-B STI as world premieres in its exhibit, themed “Driving the Subaru Difference.”
Subaru placed the concepts in its “Performance Scene,” which it described as expressing the enjoyment of driving. The exhibit also included an “Adventure Scene,” with vehicles such as Forester and Outback Wilderness prototypes and a Japanese Trailseeker prototype. These labels describe Subaru’s presentation of the show, not independent assessments of the vehicles. Subaru also says innovative technologies are intended to give Performance-E an intuitive, exhilarating driving experience. For Performance-B, the company’s emphasis is on combining familiar Subaru engineering assets. Those are stated concept aims, not measured results. Subaru’s official concept descriptions do not establish a direct numerical comparison between the vehicles.

What the concepts do—and do not—tell us about future STIs
The concepts show Subaru presenting performance through two different powertrain approaches: battery electric for Performance-E and combustion for Performance-B. They do not, on their own, establish that either concept will become a production car. The cited reveal and pre-show materials provide no retail plans or numeric powertrain specifications, so figures such as horsepower, range, acceleration and price cannot be compared from Subaru’s published descriptions.

In a January 9, 2026 motorsports announcement, Subaru said its new race car for the season was developed according to the philosophy proposed by Performance-B: combining existing Subaru assets to make driving enjoyment more accessible. The company said racing knowledge would feed into vehicle and parts development. That connects the concept’s stated philosophy with motorsports development; it is not confirmation that Performance-B itself became a production car. Subaru’s motorsports announcement gives the later context.
