Subaru of America reported 71,478 U.S. vehicle sales in March 2025, its best sales month in company history. That was 16.6% more than the 61,297 vehicles reported in March 2024 and topped its previous monthly record of 70,039, set in August 2019.
What Subaru’s March record means
The record applies to Subaru of America’s U.S. sales—not to global Subaru Corporation sales. The company announced the result on April 1, 2025. Subaru Corporation reports Japan sales and exports separately, so those figures should not be combined with Subaru of America’s total. Subaru of America’s March 2025 release and Subaru Corporation’s separate March results use different scopes.
The March total was part of a positive first quarter: Subaru of America reported 166,957 vehicles sold in Q1 2025, up 9.1% from 152,996 in Q1 2024. The company also said March marked its 32nd consecutive month of month-over-month sales increases.
Which Subaru models sold the most?
The Forester led Subaru of America’s March sales by volume, followed by the Crosstrek and Outback. The figures below are U.S. company-reported model sales for March 2025; year-over-year changes compare with March 2024.

The Solterra’s percentage increase reflects a rise from 446 sales in March 2024 to 1,154 in March 2025. The large percentage gain came from a smaller starting volume than the top-selling models.
What drove the record?
The sales release identifies results, not a definitive cause. By volume, the Forester was the biggest contributor, with the Crosstrek and Outback next. The Crosstrek and Outback also had substantial year-over-year gains, while the Forester set its own monthly record. Results were not uniformly positive: the Ascent and WRX declined from March 2024.

The broader U.S. market was also strong. The Associated Press reported nearly 1.6 million vehicles sold across automakers in March 2025, up 13.6%, amid announcements of tariffs scheduled to begin taking effect in April. That timing provides market context, but it does not establish that tariffs caused Subaru’s record or that buyers accelerated Subaru purchases specifically. March 2025 was a record month for Subaru of America’s reported U.S. sales, with growth across seven of its nine model lines. One month’s total and a positive quarter do not, by themselves, establish lasting demand, market-share gains, profitability, or future sales. Those conclusions require evidence beyond the company’s monthly sales release.
