Stuff reviewer Connor Jewiss described it as unlike anything he had sat in before—and said he was taller than it—after trying it indoors. Its low, compact profile is striking, but the maker lists setup options for users over 190 cm as well as shorter height bands. Those specifications do not establish an individual fit.
What is the Strutt ev¹?
Stuff’s 18 May 2026 report calls the ev¹ an electric wheelchair. Strutt markets it as a “Smart Everyday Vehicle.” In practical terms, it is a powered personal mobility vehicle with sensor-based assistance, rather than an ordinary electric car intended for road travel. Stuff’s report describes a short indoor test in which Jewiss navigated tight corners.
The compact, low-slung appearance prompted the headline’s height comparison, but the article does not state Jewiss’s height. Strutt’s published setup bands run from 150–158 cm through over 190 cm, so the visual impression should not be treated as a fit assessment. Strutt’s specifications also list seat-height settings from 400 to 500 mm.
How compact is it, and what are the fit limits?
Strutt’s published figures give assembled dimensions of 1046 × 584–660 × 872–982 mm (41.2 × 23–26 × 34.3–38.7 in). The ranges reflect adjustable dimensions; confirm the configuration relevant to the intended user and setting with the manufacturer or a qualified mobility professional.

Those weight figures matter if the vehicle must be lifted or transported: its modular breakdown does not make the complete vehicle light, and the stated total excludes the battery. Confirm battery and module weights, storage dimensions, and loading arrangements for the specific configuration before planning transport.
How do the sensors and powered drive work?
Stuff’s account describes LiDAR, cameras, ultrasonic sensors and time-of-flight sensors, alongside four-wheel active drive. During Jewiss’s indoor encounter, the system was presented as helping the vehicle interpret its surroundings, negotiate tight turns and stop when something was in the way. He also reported trying it on carpet and gravel and praised the joystick placement and adjustable armrests. Those are observations from a product encounter, not an independent clinical or safety evaluation.

Strutt describes sensor assistance, but its US product page warns that sensor field of view, reflectivity, weather and road conditions can lead to false alarms, missed obstacles or unstable recognition. What should a prospective user check?
The right questions go beyond whether the vehicle looks small or has a sensor suite. Before making a personal mobility decision, verify:
- Fit: whether the available adjustments suit the intended user in practice, rather than relying on height bands alone.
- Operating environment: whether the intended indoor and outdoor routes, surfaces and conditions are appropriate, given the manufacturer’s sensor limitations.
- Transport and storage: how the complete vehicle, battery and modules will be moved, loaded and stored.
- Availability and support: whether the vehicle, service and parts are available where the user lives, and what assistance the seller provides.
- Current safety information: the manufacturer’s instructions and warnings, reviewed with a qualified mobility professional where appropriate.
Stuff reported in May 2026 that Strutt was exploring financing and health-insurer partnerships; that report does not confirm that either option is available to a particular buyer. The cited sources do not establish insurance coverage.

How does the later ev1c report relate?
TechRadar’s 5 September 2026 demonstration report concerns the ev1c, not necessarily the original ev¹. It describes sensor-assisted indoor navigation and reports up to 8 mph and roughly 20 miles of range. Those figures belong to that report and model context; they should not be applied to the ev¹ without checking model-specific specifications.
