The appeal is easy to understand: it sets the 4C’s low-weight, agility-first philosophy against a dramatic power figure that belongs elsewhere in Alfa Romeo’s history.
Is there a factory 500-hp Alfa Romeo 4C Quadrifoglio?
Alfa Romeo’s July 10, 2013 press release describes the 4C as a compact, two-seat, rear-wheel-drive coupe. It does not identify a 4C Quadrifoglio or claim 500 hp for the car. The exact-title search result points to a Pinterest pin, but provides no useful description of an underlying rendering or build, so its creator, appearance and mechanical specification are not established.
That distinction matters: the headline works as a dream-car premise, not as evidence of a production model or verified tuned car. Without a documented source for the image or build, there is no basis to assign it a particular engine, modification package or performance figure.
What Alfa Romeo actually specified for the 4C
In its 2013 release, Alfa Romeo presented the 4C around compact dimensions, low mass and agility. The company described a car approximately four metres long, with a wheelbase under 2.4 metres, two racing bucket seats, carbon-fibre and aluminium construction, and rear-wheel drive. It said the car was designed and built at Maserati’s Modena plant. These are specifications and claims from that dated release, not a current-model listing. Alfa Romeo’s July 10, 2013 press release

Engine, transmission and driving modes
The release lists a 1750 Turbo petrol engine with direct injection and an aluminium block, paired with Alfa TCT, a twin-dry-clutch transmission. It also describes an Alfa DNA selector that includes a Race mode. The powertrain details do not support a 500-hp claim.
Why weight was central to the 4C
Alfa Romeo cited a target weight-to-power ratio below 4 kg/HP and explicitly framed the 4C as a lightweight agility project rather than a high-output showcase. The company put it this way: “Rather than high engine output, the 4C focuses on reduced weight to deliver maximum agility and top performance.” That is the manufacturer’s stated design philosophy, not an independent performance assessment.

Where the 500-HP figure really comes from
In the same 2013 release, Alfa Romeo’s 500-HP figure belongs to a different car: the 1975 Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12 race car. The company described it as a tubular-frame racer with a 12-cylinder, 2995 cc boxer engine, producing 500 HP (493 BHP) at 11,000 rpm. The release also credits the 33 TT 12 with seven wins from eight races. These are manufacturer-reported historical figures; they are not 4C specifications.

What Quadrifoglio means in Alfa Romeo history
Alfa Romeo describes the Quadrifoglio Verde—the green four-leaf-clover emblem—as a mark associated with some of its sportiest models. The company traces its first appearance on an Alfa Romeo racing car to Ugo Sivocci’s RL, which won the 14th Targa Florio in 1923. The emblem later appeared on performance versions of road-going Alfa Romeos.

That heritage explains why “Quadrifoglio” makes an imagined high-performance 4C feel plausible as a piece of enthusiast wish-casting. It does not establish that Alfa Romeo offered a 4C Quadrifoglio. The history and 4C details above are in the company’s 2013 release.

How to read claims about a 500-hp 4C
- Factory model: The cited Alfa Romeo release does not document a 4C Quadrifoglio or a 500-hp production 4C.
- Rendering or concept: The exact-title Pinterest result has no usable description, so visual details and authorship are unknown.
