Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a first motorcycle comparison, read a streetfighter’s specification sheet as three separate systems: the engine determines how power is produced, the brakes determine how deceleration is controlled, and the suspension manages tire contact over bumps, braking and cornering. No single number proves that a motorcycle is easy, safe or suitable for a new rider. Compare the complete package, including the model year, market, riding electronics, seat height and the manufacturer’s definition of weight.
What a streetfighter specification sheet can—and cannot—tell you
A streetfighter, also called a naked motorcycle, normally uses a performance-oriented engine and chassis with limited bodywork. The published specifications are useful for identifying equipment and comparing designs, but they are not independent tests of acceleration, stopping distance, handling, reliability or beginner suitability.

Before comparing figures, write down five identifiers for each motorcycle:
- Model year and trim level.
- Sales market, such as the United States or United Kingdom.
- Standard equipment versus optional equipment.
- Seat-height measurement and weight definition.
- The rpm at which peak power and peak torque are stated.
Equipment can change between markets and model years. Ducati’s US product page for the MY25 Streetfighter V2 specifically notes that specifications and equipment may vary by market, so confirm the exact motorcycle with its local documentation or dealer.

Engine specifications: displacement is only the starting point
Displacement measures size, not the riding experience
Engine displacement is the swept volume of the cylinders—the space the pistons move through. It is usually expressed in cubic centimetres (cc) or litres. A larger displacement can provide more potential for torque and power, but displacement alone does not describe throttle response, gearing, engine braking or how abruptly power arrives.
Cylinder layout also matters. A two-cylinder engine can be arranged in different ways, with different firing intervals, crank designs and vibration characteristics. Those details influence the character of the power delivery, but a specification sheet still cannot predict exactly how manageable the throttle will feel in traffic.
Power and torque answer different questions
Torque is twisting force at the crankshaft. It affects how strongly the motorcycle can accelerate at a given engine speed and gear. Power describes the rate at which work is done; it is related to torque and rpm. A peak torque figure does not tell you the whole torque curve, and a peak power figure does not tell you how quickly the engine responds to a small throttle input.

Always record the rpm attached to each peak. Two engines with similar peak numbers can feel different if one produces its torque much lower in the rev range. Published figures are manufacturer specifications, not a direct test between models.
Concrete engine examples
| Motorcycle and source | Engine | Peak power | Peak torque | What the figures establish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ducati Streetfighter V2, MY25, United States | Liquid-cooled 90-degree V2, 890 cc; electronic fuel injection and full ride-by-wire | 120 hp (88 kW) at 10,750 rpm | 69 lb-ft (93.3 Nm) at 8,250 rpm | Stated engine size, layout and output; not a beginner-suitability or acceleration test |
| Yamaha MT-07, 2024, United Kingdom | Liquid-cooled two-cylinder, 689 cc | 54.0 kW (73.4 PS) at 8,750 rpm | 67 Nm at 6,500 rpm | Manufacturer figures from a different market and model year; not a controlled comparison with the Ducati |
The Ducati’s headline output is substantially higher on paper, while the Yamaha’s torque peak is listed at a lower engine speed. That does not by itself establish which motorcycle a new rider will control more easily. Final drive gearing, throttle calibration, riding modes, rider position and total mass all affect the experience.
Historical details need a model-year label
Yamaha’s 2020 UK MT-07 factsheet describes a 270-degree crank and a strong, linear torque character. Treat that as 2020 information; do not assume every later MT-07 generation has identical internal hardware or calibration. When a used motorcycle is under consideration, match the specification to its exact year.

Electronics can change the way output is delivered
Ride-by-wire replaces a direct mechanical throttle cable with electronic throttle control. It allows the engine-control system to shape throttle response and support riding modes or traction-control strategies when those features are fitted. The Ducati MY25 Streetfighter V2 is listed with full ride-by-wire, but the presence of ride-by-wire alone does not guarantee a particular response or mode selection. Check the exact equipment and settings in the owner’s manual.

Brakes: separate hardware from electronic assistance
What to read in the hardware specification
Front-disc diameter, rear-disc diameter and caliper arrangement describe the braking hardware. Larger discs can provide leverage and heat capacity, while caliper design affects how pads clamp the disc. Those specifications are useful for identifying the system, but they do not prove a shorter stopping distance without controlled, comparable testing using the same tires, surface, temperature and rider inputs.
ABS is a separate comparison point
Anti-lock braking systems monitor wheel speed and reduce hydraulic pressure when a wheel is about to lock. Cornering ABS adds lean-angle information so the system can adjust intervention while the motorcycle is turning. It remains an electronic aid, not a substitute for appropriate speed, tires, technique or road judgment.

Do not generalize one model’s equipment to every streetfighter. Confirm whether the exact motorcycle has ABS, whether it is cornering-sensitive, and whether any modes can be selected or disabled in your market.
Brake examples
| Motorcycle and market | Front brakes | Rear brake | Electronic specification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ducati Streetfighter V2, MY25, United States | Two 320 mm semi-floating discs with radial Brembo Monobloc M50 calipers | 245 mm disc with a two-piston caliper | Bosch Cornering ABS; rear specification also lists ABS |
| Yamaha MT-07, 2024, United Kingdom | Hydraulic dual 298 mm discs | Single 245 mm disc | The cited factsheet lists the hardware; it does not establish a model-to-model stopping-distance result |
The Ducati and Yamaha use different front-disc sizes and caliper descriptions, but the table is not a ranking of stopping performance. Brake feel also depends on pad compound, lever ratio, tire grip, suspension setup, maintenance and rider input.

Suspension: travel, design and adjustment
What the fork and shock do
The front fork guides the front wheel and absorbs bumps. At the rear, a spring and damper connect the swingarm to the frame, often through a linkage. The spring supports the motorcycle and rider; damping controls how quickly the suspension compresses and returns.

Travel is wheel movement capacity
Suspension travel is the distance the wheel can move through its available range. More travel can provide additional room for bumps, but travel alone does not describe spring rate, damping quality, ground clearance or steering geometry. A motorcycle with less travel can still suit smooth roads, while a longer-travel design may offer more compliance on rough surfaces.
Adjustability means only the settings listed
Common adjustments include preload, rebound damping and compression damping. Preload establishes the spring’s starting position and helps set sag; it does not make the spring itself stiffer. Rebound controls how quickly the suspension extends after compression. Compression controls resistance as the suspension is compressed. If a specification says only “adjustable,” consult the manual for the specific settings rather than assuming all three are available.
Suspension examples
| Motorcycle and market | Front suspension | Rear suspension | Travel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ducati Streetfighter V2, MY25, United States | Fully adjustable 43 mm Marzocchi upside-down fork | Fully adjustable Kayaba monoshock | 120 mm front, 160 mm rear |
| Ducati Streetfighter V2 S, MY25, United States | Öhlins NIX30 fork | Öhlins monoshock | The cited product specification identifies the equipment; verify the exact travel and adjustment details for the purchased trim |
| Yamaha MT-07, 2024, United Kingdom | Telescopic fork | Linked rear swingarm suspension | 130 mm front and 130 mm rear |
| Yamaha MT-07, 2020, United Kingdom | Telescopic fork | Rear shock with rebound-damping adjuster | 130 mm front and 130 mm rear |
Fully adjustable equipment gives an experienced owner more ways to set the motorcycle for load and conditions, but it also creates more opportunities for an incorrect setup. A first-time buyer does not need to change every adjuster immediately. Start with the manufacturer’s baseline settings, set sag and tire pressures as specified, then make one change at a time.
Fit and mass: the numbers are easy to misread
Seat height affects how easily you can reach the ground at a stop. Inseam length, seat width, suspension sag and boot sole thickness also matter, so a seat-height number is a screening tool rather than a guarantee of fit.
| Motorcycle | Seat height | Published weight | Weight basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ducati Streetfighter V2, MY25, United States | 838 mm | 178 kg | Wet weight without fuel |
| Ducati Streetfighter V2 S, MY25, United States | Not stated in the cited figures | 175 kg | Wet weight without fuel |
| Yamaha MT-07, 2024, United Kingdom | 805 mm | 184 kg | Wet weight including full oil and fuel |
These weights are not directly comparable because the manufacturers use different bases. The Yamaha figure includes a full fuel load; the Ducati figures exclude fuel. Ask for the exact curb or wet-weight definition before using mass in a buying decision.
A first-time buyer’s comparison method
- Freeze the identity. Record the model year, country, trim and whether the motorcycle is new or used. Do not combine a current brochure with a specification from an earlier year.
- Build the engine row. Enter cylinder layout, displacement, peak power, peak torque and both peak rpm figures. Add riding modes, traction control and ride-by-wire only when the exact unit lists them.
- Build the brake row. Record front and rear disc dimensions, caliper arrangement and the precise ABS description. Mark equipment as standard or optional.
- Build the suspension row. Identify fork type, rear-shock type, travel and each documented adjustment. Avoid treating “fully adjustable” as a handling verdict.
- Check fit. Compare seat height with your inseam and test the reach to the bars, levers and foot controls while wearing riding gear.
- Normalize weight. Write down whether fuel, oil and other fluids are included. If the bases differ, leave the figures unranked rather than subtracting an assumed fuel weight.
- Verify the motorcycle in front of you. Check the VIN-linked equipment, owner’s manual, tire sizes, ABS warning light and service records. A used bike may have changed suspension settings, brake parts or wheels.
- Choose a controlled first setup. Use the manual’s tire pressures and suspension baseline, practice progressive braking in a safe area, and change one setting at a time.
Common specification-sheet mistakes
- Using horsepower as a beginner score: peak power does not describe throttle calibration or low-speed behavior.
- Assuming a larger disc guarantees shorter stops: stopping distance depends on the entire system and the available grip.
- Calling every streetfighter’s ABS “cornering ABS”: that description belongs only to models that explicitly list it.
- Comparing wet weights without reading the definition: fuel inclusion can materially change the number.
- Mixing model years: a historical crankshaft or shock adjuster detail may not apply to a newer generation.
- Ignoring market differences: trim names and standard equipment can differ between the United States, United Kingdom and other regions.
- Over-adjusting suspension: changing several clickers at once makes it difficult to identify what helped or hurt.
What to ask before buying
- Which model year and market specification is this motorcycle?
- Is the quoted weight with fuel, and how much fuel is assumed?
- Which ABS system is fitted to this exact VIN?
- What fork and shock adjustments are documented, and what are the factory baseline settings?
- Are riding modes, traction control or quick-shift equipment standard on this trim?
- Can the dealer demonstrate the seat reach and explain any low-seat or accessory options?
- For a used motorcycle, have the brake fluid, pads, fork seals, shock and tires been inspected?
Bottom line for a first-time comparison
Use the engine figures to understand the motorcycle’s potential, the brake specification to identify hardware and electronic assistance, and the suspension specification to see how the chassis is supported and adjusted. The Ducati MY25 Streetfighter V2 and Yamaha 2024 MT-07 illustrate why model year, market and measurement definitions matter: their published outputs, brake layouts, suspension travel and weights are not a controlled test of which motorcycle is easier or safer. The best first purchase is the one whose verified equipment, fit, mass and power delivery you can manage confidently—not the one with the most impressive single number.
