Stellantis is ending its traditional U.S. plug-in-hybrid program after the 2025 model year. The affected vehicles are the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid. They will not continue as new-vehicle plug-in-hybrid offerings for the 2026 model year.
This is a product-strategy reset, not the end of every Stellantis electrified vehicle. The company is shifting its mix among battery-electric vehicles, conventional hybrids, range-extended vehicles, and internal-combustion models.

The change does not mean Stellantis is abandoning every electrified vehicle or ending production of the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, or Pacifica nameplates. It is a product-strategy reset: Stellantis says it is adjusting its mix of battery-electric vehicles, conventional hybrids, range-extended vehicles, and internal-combustion models to better match customer demand, regulatory conditions, and profitability targets.

The phrase “all U.S. plug-in hybrids” needs a qualification. It refers to Stellantis’s affected U.S. and broader North American traditional PHEV lineup, not to every electrified vehicle the corporation sells worldwide. Stellantis continues to describe a portfolio that includes battery-electric vehicles, hybrids, and combustion-powered vehicles.
Why is Stellantis ending its U.S. PHEVs?
Stellantis says customer demand has shifted. Rather than maintain a single, uniform path toward electrification, the company says it will put more emphasis on the technologies that customers are actually choosing and that can reach profitable scale.
The company’s broader 2026 strategy reset acknowledged that Stellantis had overestimated the pace of the energy transition. It cited several factors behind the change in direction:
- Demand: Buyers have not adopted every type of electrified vehicle at the same rate.
- Profitability: Stellantis is reassessing products and programs that may not achieve adequate volume or margins.
- Regulation: Changes to the U.S. regulatory environment have altered the assumptions behind earlier product plans.
- Technology choice: The company wants to offer a mixture of BEVs, conventional hybrids, range-extended vehicles, and internal-combustion vehicles instead of relying on one drivetrain strategy.
Stellantis’s FY2025 investor materials also referred to a favorable mix effect from discontinued PHEV offerings and described the North American portfolio as being aligned more closely with current market demand. That language points to a deliberate portfolio and economics decision, not merely a temporary production interruption or short-term inventory problem.
What happens to the Jeep Wrangler 4xe?
The Wrangler 4xe combined the Wrangler’s off-road-focused design with a plug-in-hybrid system. Jeep marketed the vehicle around three operating modes: Electric, Hybrid, and eSave. Those modes allowed drivers to use stored battery energy, combine electric power with the gasoline engine, or preserve battery charge for later use.
That plug-in-hybrid version is the part being discontinued for the North American transition to the 2026 model year. This is not the end of the Wrangler. Conventional Wrangler models continue separately, so shoppers should distinguish between the discontinued 4xe powertrain and the continuing Wrangler nameplate.
For buyers who specifically want a new Wrangler with plug-in capability, the end of 2025-model-year production means remaining new inventory and the used market are likely to become the relevant purchasing channels. Exact availability will depend on dealer inventory, location, trim, and model year.
What happens to the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe?
The Grand Cherokee 4xe brought plug-in-hybrid capability to Jeep’s larger, more comfort-oriented SUV. Like the Wrangler 4xe, it was part of Jeep’s North American PHEV program and is being removed from the lineup after the 2025 model year.
The Grand Cherokee itself is not being discontinued. Stellantis’s 2026 product materials continue to discuss the Grand Cherokee, but the plug-in-hybrid version is the affected variant. Buyers should therefore be careful with headlines or listings that simply say “Grand Cherokee discontinued”: that wording would be broader than the available information supports.
What happens to the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid?
The Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid was unusual in the U.S. market because it offered plug-in capability in a minivan rather than an SUV. Chrysler’s published specifications listed:
- Up to 32 miles of all-electric range
- Up to 82 MPGe
- Up to 520 miles of total range
Those are manufacturer-published figures, not independent real-world test results. Actual range and efficiency can vary with weather, temperature, speed, passenger and cargo load, terrain, driving style, tire condition, and accessory use.

Does this mean Stellantis is abandoning electrification?
No. Stellantis is ending this traditional U.S. PHEV lineup, but it is not ending electrification as a whole.
A plug-in hybrid uses a relatively large battery that can be charged from an external power source, while also retaining a gasoline engine. A conventional hybrid generally cannot be charged by plugging it in and instead replenishes its smaller battery through regenerative braking and the engine. A battery-electric vehicle has no gasoline engine. A range-extended vehicle uses electric drive with an engine or generator intended to provide additional operating range.
Stellantis’s stated direction is to use more than one of those approaches. The company’s 2026 communications continue to describe a portfolio spanning BEVs, hybrids, and internal-combustion vehicles. Its North American product actions include vehicles such as the Jeep Cherokee, refreshed Grand Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, Dodge Charger SIXPACK, and future Jeep products.
The practical conclusion is that Stellantis is changing the mix and timing of electrified technology. It is not promising that every future vehicle will be electric, nor is it saying that every hybrid program is ending.
What current owners need to know
Ending production does not automatically make an existing vehicle unsupported or unusable. A vehicle already sold remains a vehicle that can be driven, maintained, and repaired. Production status, ownership support, and future product strategy are three different issues.
1. Existing vehicles can remain in service
The discontinuation applies to the future new-vehicle lineup. It does not announce that current Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, or Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid owners must stop driving their vehicles.

2. Warranty questions depend on the vehicle and applicable terms
Owners should consult their original warranty documents, vehicle identification number, dealer, or Stellantis customer-support channel for specific coverage questions. The end of production alone is not evidence that an existing warranty has been canceled or changed.
3. Service and parts remain important ownership paths
Chrysler specifically directs owners of the discontinued Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid toward pre-owned vehicles, manuals, and authentic Mopar parts and accessories. For maintenance or repairs, use the vehicle’s model year and VIN to confirm the correct component. Availability can vary by part, trim, region, and supplier.
4. Do not assume a replacement PHEV is coming
Stellantis has described a broader mix of hybrids, range-extended vehicles, BEVs, and combustion models, but the available information does not establish a specific replacement PHEV or a launch date for one. Buyers should not treat the strategy reset as a promise that a new Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, or Pacifica PHEV successor will arrive for 2026.

Chrysler says the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid can be charged from a household outlet or with an available Level 2 charging station. That means charging equipment remains a practical consideration even though the vehicle is no longer in production.
Owners shopping for a J1772 EV charging cable should verify the connector, amperage, cable length, outlet configuration, and model-year requirements before buying. Compatibility should be confirmed for the specific Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, or Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid; not every cable is automatically suitable for every vehicle or electrical installation.

A household outlet may be convenient but typically charges more slowly than Level 2 equipment. A Level 2 setup can be more useful for owners who regularly need to replenish the battery between trips, but the appropriate equipment depends on the home’s wiring, outlet, installation, and vehicle requirements. Owners should follow the vehicle manual and have electrical work handled by a qualified professional where necessary.
What can owners still buy?
- Used vehicles: Remaining Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid, Wrangler 4xe, and Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles can be found through the pre-owned market, although inventory varies by location and model year.
- Charging equipment: A compatible J1772 or Level 2 charging cable may help existing owners, but connector and electrical specifications must be checked first.
- Manuals and service information: Keep the owner’s manual and use the correct documentation for the vehicle’s model year.
- Mopar parts and accessories: Chrysler identifies authentic Mopar components as an official parts path. Availability is not guaranteed for every component indefinitely, so owners should confirm fitment and supply before starting a repair.
- Dealer service: Dealers remain a useful source for VIN-specific diagnostics, software information, recall checks, and parts compatibility.
The end of production alone does not prove that resale values will rise or fall, that parts will become scarce, or that reliability will change. Those outcomes would require separate market, inventory, and long-term ownership data.
What this means for shoppers
If you want a new Stellantis PHEV
Focus on remaining 2025-model-year inventory and confirm the exact vehicle’s model year, trim, warranty, charging equipment, and available incentives. Do not assume that a dealer listing for a “2025” vehicle means it has the latest equipment or software revision; verify the vehicle by VIN and window sticker.
If you are considering a used 4xe or Pacifica Hybrid
Check battery and charging operation, service records, open recalls, warranty status, accident history, and the availability of the correct charging cable. A pre-purchase inspection by a technician familiar with the model’s high-voltage system is sensible. Confirm that the vehicle charges properly and that the gasoline engine, electric drive system, and charging controls all operate as expected.
If you want the lowest-complexity ownership path
A conventional gasoline vehicle or hybrid may better match your priorities if you do not have dependable access to charging. If you want electric driving but need long-distance flexibility, compare available BEV and range-extended products rather than assuming a discontinued PHEV will have a direct replacement.
The bottom line on Stellantis’s PHEV decision
Stellantis is pulling its traditional North American plug-in hybrids from the new-vehicle lineup after the 2025 model year. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid are the affected models.
That is a significant retreat from this particular PHEV strategy, but it is not a retreat from all electrification. Stellantis is reallocating its product plans across battery-electric, conventional-hybrid, range-extended, and combustion powertrains based on the demand and profitability it expects in each market.
For owners, the immediate reality is more practical than dramatic: existing vehicles remain relevant through used-vehicle channels, service, manuals, compatible charging equipment, and Mopar parts. For shoppers, the key distinction is between buying a remaining PHEV and waiting for a replacement that Stellantis has not specifically confirmed.
