The bike behind the “80-hp electric dirt bike” headline is the Stark VARG EX, an electric enduro motorcycle. Kent Powersports of Austin lists its output as adjustable from 10 to 80 hp and its battery capacity as 7.2 kWh; Electrek reported the same headline specifications in a June 2025 first look. Those are published specifications, not independently measured test results. Whether a particular VARG EX can be registered and ridden on public roads depends on its paperwork and local rules.
What the 80-hp figure means
The VARG EX is not limited to one fixed output: the Texas dealer lists adjustment from 10 to 80 hp, while Electrek reported 60-hp and 80-hp configurations. The 80-hp figure describes the maximum output, not the only setting available to the rider. Neither source establishes that every market or configuration is identical, so confirm the specifications for the specific bike being sold.

Is the VARG EX street-legal?
Kent Powersports describes the EX as road-legal and U.S.-homologated, and Electrek discusses it as a street-legal enduro. That does not guarantee that every individual bike can be registered in every state or locality, or that licensing requirements are the same everywhere. Before buying, check the exact vehicle documentation and your jurisdiction’s registration, license, insurance, and required-equipment rules.
European license claims also need care. Interesting Engineering attributes to Stark Future founder and CEO Anton Wass the explanation that the VARG EX can qualify for an A1 license in Europe despite its 80-hp peak, because licensing uses low continuous power. That is Wass’s account of how the classification works—not a universal legal determination. Verify current rules with the relevant authority in the country where you plan to ride.

What kind of riding suits it?
The EX is positioned as an enduro machine, not as a do-everything road commuter. Electrek’s June 2025 first-look review said it was not optimal for commuting and highlighted the practical difficulty of highway trips to trails. Its reviewer, Steven Delatorre, said after two days on trails that the bike was “approachable and easy to ride” for a high-performance machine. That is a first-hand impression from a short trail ride, not a standardized handling or range test.
For a buying decision, assess the bike against the riding you actually do: technical off-road use, the road distance to trails, access to suitable charging, and the road equipment and registration status of the exact unit. The reported 1.3–7 hours of riding time cannot tell you how many road miles you will get, and the cited evidence does not provide a comparable head-to-head test against other motorcycles.
