Spinny’s policies are its own descriptions, not independent proof that every listed car is mechanically sound or better value. Local dealers have no single industry-wide policy. The safest choice is the seller that documents the vehicle and leaves you with the lower, better-understood ownership risk.

How to compare the real cost
Compare the amount required to put the car on the road and keep it roadworthy, not just the displayed vehicle price. Request two written totals: the cash amount payable at delivery and, if financing, the total amount repaid over the full loan term.
Build an all-in price sheet
Use one row for each seller and one line for every cost:
- Vehicle selling price and any documented discount or adjustment.
- Registration, RC-transfer and related government or processing charges. Spinny says RC-transfer charges are included in its listed price; verify the exact listing and agreement rather than assuming every paperwork cost is covered.
- Insurance premium, endorsement or new-policy cost. Spinny says it does not transfer insurance through its service, so arrange this separately where required.
- Finance processing fee, documentation fee, interest, insurance bundled with the loan and the total repayment. A lower monthly instalment can still mean a higher overall cost.
- Optional accessories, protection packages, service plans and other add-ons. Ask for an itemized opt-in price and remove anything you do not want.
- Immediate tyres, battery, brake, suspension, fluid, air-conditioning or body repairs identified by an independent inspection.
- Known routine service due soon, such as a major scheduled service or timing-belt replacement, if the records show it is imminent.
- Travel, delivery or transport costs if the car is in another city.
Ask each seller to mark every line as included, payable by you, or not applicable. “Included” should have a defined amount or document behind it; otherwise a cost can reappear at delivery.

Do not treat a negotiated discount as proof of value
Spinny’s official pricing answer, updated 18 June 2026, states: “All second hand car prices at Spinny are fixed & non-negotiable.” You should not expect to bargain down the listed car price. You can still compare another car, request clarification of inclusions and negotiate separate services only if the written offer allows it.
A local dealer may reduce the quoted price, but the reduction can be offset by a higher finance rate, missing transfer work, worn tyres, an undocumented accident or a short warranty. Compare the final, documented total after the independent inspection, not the first number on a windscreen or online listing.
Inspection: what the 200-point claim does and does not tell you
Spinny says its certification process checks 200 points across exterior, interior and technical condition. Its separate evaluation description refers to bodywork, the engine compartment, undercarriage, tyres, brakes and electronics. These statements describe Spinny’s own process; they are not an independent audit of how accurately every defect is found or repaired.

Request the car-specific evidence
For a Spinny car, download or save the exact inspection report for the vehicle identification number you are considering. Look for measurements, photographs, comments on paint or panel replacement, tyre tread, brake wear, warning lights, fluid leaks, suspension noise and electronic faults. A generic explanation of the inspection is not a substitute for the report for that car.

Ask for service invoices, periodic-maintenance records, insurance claims, previous inspection reports, odometer history and any disclosure of repainting, flood exposure or structural repair. If a document is unavailable, record that as an unresolved risk rather than assuming the car is clean.
Arrange an independent mechanical inspection
Have a mechanic who is not paid by the seller inspect the car before payment where possible. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission recommends this even when a vehicle is described as certified or sold with a warranty; that is general consumer guidance, not Indian law. The principle is still useful: certification and warranty do not remove the need to understand the car’s actual condition.
Ask for a dated, written report that identifies the vehicle by registration or VIN and separates safety defects, items needing attention soon and cosmetic observations. Require estimated parts and labour costs. If the seller refuses reasonable access to an independent inspection, treat that refusal as a material risk.
Use an OBD-II reader only as a preliminary check
A technically confident buyer may scan for diagnostic trouble codes, check readiness monitors and compare live data with the mechanic’s findings. A scanner cannot assess structural damage, clutch wear, suspension play, oil consumption, cooling-system pressure or the quality of a prior repair. It is an additional clue, not a substitute for a full inspection and road test.

- The return request must be filed within five days after delivery.
- The car must not have been driven more than 300 km during that period.
- Listed disqualifying events include damage, repairs, external maintenance or parts replacement during the return window.
Before delivery, save the current terms that apply to the specific car and category, including the request channel, required photographs or documents, inspection procedure, refund timing and any exclusions. Keep the delivery odometer reading, photographs and handover checklist. Do not arrange a non-Spinny repair, install parts or use the car beyond the mileage limit while deciding whether to return it.
A local dealer may agree to a return, exchange or cancellation, but there is no single local-dealer policy to rely on. If a dealer offers any such protection, write down the exact number of days, mileage cap, condition standard, refund method, deductions and who pays transport. A verbal “we will take it back” is difficult to enforce and should not be valued like a signed term.
Warranty: compare the contract, not the headline duration
Spinny says warranty availability and terms differ among its Assured+, Assured and Budget categories. The category name alone does not tell you which components are covered. Obtain the handbook or offer for the exact car and check:
- Covered systems and parts, including engine, transmission, electrical components, air-conditioning and suspension where applicable.
- Duration and mileage cap, and which limit applies first.
- Exclusions for wear items, consumables, pre-existing faults, modifications, misuse or missed servicing.
- Whether you must obtain authorization before repair and how a claim is opened.
- Approved workshops, geographic limits, towing arrangements and any deductible or contribution.
- Whether the warranty transfers if you sell the car and what maintenance evidence is required.
Ask a local dealer for the same details on letterhead or in the sale agreement. “Engine warranty” can mean a narrow list of lubricated internal parts, while a broader phrase may still exclude sensors, cooling components or labour. Compare the covered repair scenario you are most concerned about, not just the number of months.
RC transfer, insurance and ownership paperwork
Understand Spinny’s stated ownership and RC position
Spinny states that it owns the used cars it sells, while the registration certificate can remain in the name of the person from whom Spinny procured the car until an end buyer purchases it and RC transfer is initiated. Ask for the current RC details, seller identity, transfer application evidence and a clear handover timeline.
Spinny says RC-transfer charges are included in listed car prices. Confirm in the written agreement what “included” covers: government fees, service charges, courier or documentation work, and any re-submission cost. Keep copies of the sale invoice, delivery note, Form 29/30 or applicable state documents, loan-closure proof and the RTO receipt.

Insurance is a separate task
Spinny says its service does not transfer insurance. Its guidance says that when more than 90 days of active insurance remain, the buyer should contact the insurer after receiving the RC/RTO receipt. Confirm the policy’s validity, registered owner, insured-declared value, no-claim bonus treatment and transfer deadline directly with the insurer. Do not drive assuming the seller’s policy has automatically moved to you.

With a local dealer, ask whether the policy is being transferred, cancelled and replaced, or sold without active cover. Obtain the policy number and expiry date, then verify the position with the insurer. Budget for a new policy or endorsement if the insurer requires one.
Run basic ownership checks before paying
- Match the VIN and engine number on the car to the RC and seller documents.
- Confirm the seller has authority to sell and that a financed vehicle has a documented loan closure or financier release.
- Check for outstanding challans, tax, permit or hypothecation issues through the relevant official channels for the vehicle’s state.
- Verify that the odometer, number of previous owners and fuel or transmission description match the paperwork and listing.
- Ask who is responsible if an RTO rejects the transfer because of missing or inconsistent documents.
Convenience and process: where the routes differ
Spinny presents an organized purchase flow through its website and hubs, fixed listed prices and standardized documents. That can reduce negotiation time and make it easier to compare cars within its inventory. The available evidence does not establish a neutral, market-wide time or satisfaction advantage, so judge the actual appointment, response speed and document quality you receive.
A local dealer may let you inspect the car at length, speak directly with the previous owner or use a workshop you already trust. Another dealer may restrict a test drive, lack records or pressure you to pay quickly. Convenience is therefore a property of the specific seller, not of the label “local dealer.”

- Define the comparison car. Record make, model, generation, year, trim, transmission, fuel, approximate mileage, ownership count, colour, city and known condition. Do not compare a lower-priced car with a different trim or accident history.
- Collect written offers. Ask Spinny and the local dealer for the vehicle price, every fee, insurance treatment, finance terms, included service and delivery date. Request both cash total and financed total.
- Verify identity and history. Match VIN and engine details, inspect the RC, check loan closure and challans, and request service and insurance records.
- Review the inspection evidence. Save Spinny’s vehicle-specific report or obtain the local dealer’s equivalent documents. List every noted defect and unresolved question.
- Book an independent inspection. Use a mechanic who is not financially tied to either seller. Get written repair estimates and reduce the offer or walk away when the risk is not acceptable.
- Test-drive under normal conditions. Start the engine cold if possible, check warning lights, clutch or automatic transmission behaviour, steering pull, braking, suspension noise, cooling and air-conditioning. Record the odometer and fuel level.
- Price the first year. Add immediate repairs, tyres, battery, scheduled service, insurance and finance costs to the purchase total. A cheaper car that needs substantial work may not be cheaper.
- Read return and warranty terms before signing. For Spinny, verify the five-day/300-km limits and exclusions. For a local dealer, insist that any promise is written with a deadline and remedy.
- Assign paperwork responsibilities. Name the person or company handling RC transfer, list included charges, record the expected documents and confirm insurance steps.
- Complete a documented handover. Photograph the car, odometer, keys, accessories, warning lights and documents. Keep invoices, payment proof, inspection report, delivery checklist and every written promise.
When Spinny may fit better
- You value a fixed, published price and do not want to negotiate.
- You want a standardized inspection report and a stated return process, while accepting that both have conditions.
- You prefer a structured hub or online workflow and can obtain the exact warranty and paperwork terms in writing.
- The specific Spinny car remains competitive after adding insurance, finance, immediate repairs and any ownership costs.
These advantages are process advantages, not proof that a particular car is defect-free or that Spinny’s price is the lowest available.
When a local dealer may fit better
- The dealer provides a comparable car with verified records at a lower all-in cost after inspection and repairs.
- You can use a trusted independent mechanic and the dealer permits a thorough inspection and road test.
- The dealer writes a meaningful warranty, return or repair commitment and accepts clear responsibility for RC transfer and insurance coordination.
- You have local support for service and can verify the seller’s reputation through concrete references and documents rather than informal assurances.
Negotiation alone is not a reason to choose the local route. If the dealer will not provide records, inspection access or written terms, the apparent flexibility may simply transfer risk to you.

Comparing sticker prices only

- Is RC-transfer responsibility and cost explicit?
- Have you confirmed insurance validity and transfer steps with the insurer?
