Albuquerque’s automated speed-enforcement cameras are fixed units at locations listed on the City’s Automated Speed Enforcement page. Because locations and operating status can change, check that live list before a trip. These cameras enforce speed, not red lights; the City says it does not operate red-light cameras.
Where Albuquerque lists its speed cameras
The City program page currently lists 40 location entries, including separate entries for some travel directions. That is a count of listed entries, not necessarily a count of individual camera units. Check the City page for current activation status and any changes.

The City’s July 30, 2026 announcement reported 38 active cameras at that time. It also said the Tramway and Paseo del Norte cameras had newly gone live and described two Coors cameras as expected in early August. For the status now, use the program page rather than relying on that dated rollout update.
How the cameras work—and what they enforce
The City says radar triggers recording when a vehicle travels more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit. The City lists the fine as $100. Its FAQ says images are taken for vehicles exceeding the enforcement speed, not for every vehicle passing a camera. Albuquerque’s system is for speed enforcement: the City says it does not have red-light cameras.

According to the City, Albuquerque Police Department staff review camera events. If a citation is issued, a notice is mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner. The City describes options to pay, arrange a payment plan, dispute a notice, or request a hearing. Follow the instructions and deadlines on your notice and the current City page for the applicable process.
Why the City chooses these locations
The City says site selection considers speeding and crash data, the Vision Zero High Fatal and Injury Network, a Vulnerability Index, and proximity to schools, parks, community centers, and other places where people may walk or bike. Community feedback is also considered. Before choosing a site, the City checks practical conditions such as power access, sight distance, and whether the camera view is unobstructed.

- UNSURPASSED RANGE & SENSITIVITY - Industry Leading Performance with Advanced False Alert Filtering is THE choice for drivers who demand the highest level of protection against speeding tickets.
- GPS TECHNOLOGY - Using GPS the R3 can remember and mute common false alerts (such as retail store automatic doors) along your regularly driven routes so you never have to listen to the same false alert twice.
- RED LIGHT AND SPEED CAMERA ALERTS - Preloaded Red Light and Speed Camera locations with Free Database and Firmware updates ensures your detector will never be out of date.
- MULTI-COLOR OLED DISPLAY - is easy-to-Read and allows for more useful information to be displayed at once. This improves your overall situational awareness.
- VOICE ALERTS - Voice warnings allow for hands-free operation and provide clear communication. Voice Alerts are programable to fit your driving style so you can keep your eyes on the road with no distractions.
What the City reports about speed changes
For its first 20 cameras, the City reported that, over April 25, 2022–May 29, 2025, the share of drivers exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 mph or more fell by 54.7%–96.2%, while average speeds decreased by 0.6–8.8 mph. These are City-reported results for that camera group and reporting period; they should not be read as measurements for every current site or as 2026 results.
The City also publishes camera-specific passing data. For example, its table for Gibson at San Mateo eastbound reports that enforceable passing events made up 31.68% of the cumulative total in 2022, 12.49% in 2023, 7.53% in 2024, and 5.31% in 2025. Those figures describe that camera’s data and the metric in the City table, not all Albuquerque traffic or all camera locations.

- RADAR DETECTOR WITH 1.54" LCD SCREEN & DIRECTION DISPLAY: The RX85 features a crisp 1.54-inch LCD display that not only shows radar alerts but also displays your current direction of travel, giving you essential driving information at a glance. As a pure radar/laser detector, this device does not contain a camera database and will not alert for fixed red-light cameras or non-radar speed traps.
- FORWARD-FACING X K KA BAND DETECTION: Engineered for forward-facing protection, the RX85 excels at detecting approaching X, K, and Ka band signals. Optimized for highway driving, it provides early warnings of police radar guns ahead. Please ensure an unobstructed view; since radar waves travel in a straight line, the device may alert at a shorter distance if affected by terrain or physical obstructions.
- REAL-TIME RADAR & LASER DETECTION: The RX85 detects active radio signals, not visual police presence. It will only alert when a police radar gun is powered on and actively transmitting X, K, or Ka band signals. If a patrol car is parked with its radar system turned off, the device will remain silent to avoid false alarms. It also features advanced laser eye technology to capture fleeting instant-on laser signals within line-of-sight.
- MANUAL CITY & HIGHWAY MODES: Customize your driving experience by manually selecting the mode that fits your environment. Highway Mode maximizes sensitivity for long-range detection, while City Mode reduces sensitivity to filter out common urban interference (like automatic doors). Due to complex urban signal environments, occasional false alerts in City Mode are a normal physical occurrence, ensuring you don't miss real threats.
- ENGLISH & SPANISH RADAR DETECTOR FOR REAL-TIME THREATS: The RX85 interface fully supports English and Spanish, allowing users to easily switch languages. It is strictly designed to detect live police radar and laser signals rather than relying on offline databases. Combined with forward-facing detection and multi-mode switching, the RX85 filters out invalid interference in complex road conditions to provide clear and accurate warning experiences.
How to drive safely near camera sites
- Follow the posted speed limit throughout the corridor; do not wait until you see a camera to slow down.
- Stay alert for people walking and biking, especially near trail crossings, schools, parks, and community destinations.
- Use the City location page as planning information, not as a substitute for attentive driving. A camera-free stretch still calls for safe, legal speed.
