The Specialized Turbo Levo R is a full-power electric mountain bike with 140 mm of front travel and 130 mm at the rear—less suspension than the Turbo Levo 4, but a more compact travel package. It is not uniformly lightweight: the US-listed S-Works Turbo Levo R Ultralight weighs 18.8 kg (41.4 lb), while weight varies by build. Battery, motor output, price and estimated range also differ across the lineup.
What is the Specialized Turbo Levo R?
Specialized calls the bike “Full Power Electric XC Trail” and positions it as a rally-oriented, agile platform. Those are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not results from a standardized comparison. Its 140/130 mm suspension—140 mm fork travel and 130 mm rear travel—helps distinguish it from the longer-travel Turbo Levo 4, which the cited review describes as 160/150 mm.
The Levo R is intended for riders who want full-power electric assistance in a shorter-travel trail bike. A rider prioritizing more suspension for descending may prefer to consider the Levo 4; someone seeking a lighter-weight, smaller-battery approach may find the Levo SL a more relevant comparison. The available review does not provide a controlled, same-route test of those models.
How do the Levo R builds differ?
Specialized’s US listings show meaningful differences in battery size, listed motor figures, suspension and price. The table reflects the listings observed October 8, 2026; it is not a standardized comparison test.

How much range do you get from a Turbo Levo R?
Specialized estimates up to 4.63 hours for the S-Works build with a 900 Wh battery and optional range extender, and up to five hours for the Comp Alloy with its optional 280 Wh extender. The Ultralight listing gives up to 3.36 hours with an optional extender and its 600 Wh battery. Specialized does not state a standardized route, rider weight, assistance setting or conditions for these estimates, so treat them as listing figures rather than a promise of ride time.

One real-ride reference comes from Jeff Barber’s February 2026 Singletracks first-ride review. After testing an S-Works size S5 for about two weeks, he reported roughly 32 miles and 3,000 feet of climbing on a charge, using Trail mode for about one-third of the mileage and Eco mode for two-thirds. That is one reviewer’s result on his rides, not a directly comparable range test or a prediction for other riders.
What does the Levo R feel like on the trail?
Barber described the bike as responsive and enjoyable on climbs, planted on flowy descents, and capable despite its 130 mm of rear travel. His rides were around Coldwater Mountain in the southeastern United States; these are his observations, not an independent multi-rider test.

- Fitment: The bash guard plate compatible with Specialized Turbo Levo gen4 e-mountain bikes. Confirm your model before purchase, providing peace of mind that it's the right choice for your ride.
- Hard Anodized Finish: Made of hard anodized material to protect your mountain bike’s engine from being rocked by a hard stone.
- Protection: Protect your e-bike's engine from dirty or mud when riding. Helps extend the lifespan of your bike by preventing damage from rocks, branches, and other trail obstacles.
- LIGHTWEIGHT & DURABLE TRAIL COMPANION: Weighing almost nothing, this skid plate adds no noticeable weight to your e-bike, preserving its agile handling. The rugged material is built to withstand repeated impacts and harsh conditions, ensuring long-lasting durability.
- Guard Your Investment: This guard acts as essential insurance, shielding your bike from expensive damage. Ride more aggressively and conquer technical terrain with total confidence.
He also found Trail mode too powerful for some technical, low-speed sections and preferred Eco there. He noted that the motor was audible. Those observations may help riders think about assistance behavior, but terrain, settings and personal preferences affect the experience.

The Ultralight model is the clearest answer: Specialized lists it at 18.8 kg (41.4 lb) with a 600 Wh battery. That number applies to that listed build, not every Levo R. For context, Barber listed his S-Works size S5 review bike at 48.1 lb; that is a reviewer-reported weight for his test bike, not a like-for-like comparison against the Ultralight listing.

The trade-off is configuration. The Ultralight listing pairs its lower stated weight with a smaller 600 Wh battery than the 900 Wh S-Works listing or the Comp Alloy’s standard 840 Wh configuration. Choose based on the balance of weight, battery capacity, components and intended rides—not the model name alone.

Which Levo R battery should you choose?
- Choose the 600 Wh option if: lower listed weight and agility are priorities, and the battery capacity suits your usual rides. The Ultralight listing specifies 18.8 kg (41.4 lb); the Comp Alloy page also says riders can choose a 600 Wh battery.
- Consider the larger listed batteries if: you want more capacity for longer outings or prefer not to choose the smaller option. The S-Works listing specifies 900 Wh and the Comp Alloy listing 840 Wh. These capacities alone do not establish how far you will ride; terrain, assistance use and conditions matter.
- Consider an extender if: you want the additional capacity offered by the relevant listing. Specialized’s listed estimates are tied to optional extenders, so check the exact build and compatibility with a dealer before buying.
What should you check before buying?
- Compare the exact build: confirm battery, motor figures, suspension, components, weight and current price on the listing for your market. Do not assume specifications transfer across Levo R versions.
- Try the fit and assistance: Specialized directs customers to stores for sales, service, demos and bike fits. Ask about a demo and fit appointment to assess sizing and how the assistance feels on terrain similar to yours; availability depends on location.
- Plan for trailside repairs: Specialized says the Comp Alloy’s SWAT storage is intended for repair essentials. Decide what you need to carry, but verify the dimensions and fit of any repair kit rather than assuming a particular kit is compatible.
