Space Campers’ Wedge pop-up camper, shown on a Cybertruck bed mockup in July 2023, never went into production. The company’s current Wedge page says so directly and states that the waitlist is closed. Its follow-on Cybertruck truck cap, the Cap, is listed with a $7,835 base price, but the company’s request page says it is no longer accepting orders or reservations. The 2023 headline was written while the Cybertruck was still ahead of customers. It no longer describes a camper you can buy.
What New Atlas reported in July 2023
C.C. Weiss’s New Atlas article, published July 27, 2023, described a prototype Wedge installed on a Cybertruck bed mockup. Space Campers had not yet tested the design on a production truck, so the report presented it as a concept rather than a proven fit.
The design targeted the Cybertruck bed’s sloped sides. Instead of sleeping on the uneven floor, the Wedge offered a level platform with adjustable modular panels that the report said could be arranged as a double bed or a lounger. The raised roof was described as giving eight feet of standing height, with fabric sidewalls, mesh ventilation and an LED-lit ceiling. The roll-up weather door doubled as an awning. The report also listed storage cubbies, L-track and tie-down points, and four 120-volt outlets.
The pop-up roof was described as running on air from the truck’s onboard compressor, which powered the roof struts. The article also named a kitchen, an outdoor shower and bathroom, insulation and solar power as planned or available accessories. These are descriptions from 2023. The report does not establish that any of them shipped.

Pricing was split between the two products. The Wedge carried a $24,000 starting price. For the fixed-roof Cap, Space Campers had opened a waitlist but had not announced a price.
Where the Wedge stands now
The current Wedge page states “The Wedge Never Reached Production” and “The waitlist is closed.” The page still displays the $24,000 figure from 2023. A displayed price on a product that never reached production is not an offer, and the page does not present the Wedge as something you can order at that price.

Wedge specifications from the manufacturer
The Wedge page lists the following specifications. They are Space Campers’ own figures, not independent measurements.
- Sleeping: a two-person Murphy-style bed with a four-inch memory-foam mattress and modular extensions
- Kitchen: a camp-kitchen configuration
- Weight: 470 pounds base weight, and 430 pounds installed after removing the truck bed
- Height: eight feet at the high side and six feet at the low side
- Weather and shade: an adjustable awning
- Power: outlets and USB ports
The Cap: the Cybertruck cap that followed
The Cap is a truck-bed cap rather than a pop-up roof. Its product page lists a glass rear hatch as standard, tonneau-cover compatibility, integrated L-track roof runners and roof steps. Optional components include MOLLE panels, crossbars, load bars, ventilation fans, bed lights and a mattress.
According to the company FAQ, the Cap attaches to the Cybertruck bed rails with clamps and requires no permanent modification. The truck’s built-in tonneau cover remains usable. These are manufacturer statements. Because orders are closed, the Cap is a reference point for what the company designed, not a current purchase option.

Setup, lift and range: what the manufacturer claims
Setup and lift times
Space Campers says Wedge setup and breakdown take under five minutes, and that its actuators raise the camper in 30 seconds or less. No independent timing is cited for either claim.
Range
The FAQ asks “How will my Wedge Camper affect my range?” Space Campers’ answer is that the impact varies with how the vehicle is used. The company also mentions an offload solution for owners who drive frequently on the freeway. The company does not publish a measured range result, and none is cited here.
Rooftop tents and crossbars
The FAQ states that the rooftop tent shown in the Cap’s photos is an aftermarket product, not a Space Campers product. It says the Cap works with most aftermarket rooftop tents when paired with Space Campers crossbars. Crossbars are the condition, so a tent that fits a generic roof rack is not automatically compatible with the Cap.

How to compare Cybertruck camping setups
If you are weighing a Cybertruck sleeping setup today, the Wedge cannot be part of the decision. Compare the remaining options on these points:
- Sleeping capacity and whether the bed is level over the bed’s sloped sides
- Standing room at the high and low points
- Access to the truck bed and tonneau cover
- Weather protection and ventilation
- Setup time, power outlets and power source
- Weight, and whether the unit can be removed for offloading
- Accessory compatibility, including crossbars and rooftop tents
- Price and whether the product can actually be ordered
Independent comparative tests of these Cybertruck products were not available for this article, so the comparison should rest on the manufacturer’s own specifications and your own use case. If you plan to add a rooftop tent, search by category rather than by a single brand, and confirm fitment with the tent maker and Space Campers’ crossbar requirement before you buy.
