Its headline figures—more than 335 km/h and up to 600 kW—signal a substantial performance step, but 600 kW is peak output, not the standard race-mode setting: Formula E lists 450 kW for standard race mode.
What Formula E has revealed
GEN4 is the official name for Formula E’s next car generation. The reveal presents it as a major performance and technology update, including active all-wheel drive and a peak output of up to 600 kW. That peak figure should not be confused with what the car uses in standard race mode.

The car’s overall length is 5,540 mm, according to Formula E’s GEN4 fact sheet. It is one published design measurement, not a basis for a full dimensional comparison with earlier cars.
What the performance numbers mean
Formula E’s published performance announcement gives GEN4 a maximum speed of more than 335 km/h, an approximately 1.8-second 0–100 km/h time, and a 4.4-second 0–200 km/h time. These are championship claims; the cited material does not establish independent test results or the conditions behind a direct comparison.

Formula E also describes race-mode power as 50% higher than GEN3 Evo. Its GEN4 FAQ specifies 450 kW in standard race mode, with higher output available in ATTACK MODE; up to 600 kW is the peak headline figure. The two figures describe different operating contexts, not a contradiction. Formula E highlights active all-wheel drive as another part of the new car’s performance package.
| Published figure | What it describes |
|---|---|
| More than 335 km/h | Formula E’s claimed maximum speed |
| Approximately 1.8 seconds | Formula E’s claimed 0–100 km/h acceleration |
| 4.4 seconds | Formula E’s claimed 0–200 km/h acceleration |
| 450 kW | Standard race-mode output in Formula E’s FAQ |
| Up to 600 kW | Peak output; higher output is available in ATTACK MODE, according to Formula E |
Formula E has also promoted a lap-time advantage over the previous generation, but that is a projected or development-car comparison, not a settled race result. Circuit layout and test conditions affect any such comparison, so the speed and acceleration figures above are not proof of a fixed lap-time gain at every venue.

When will GEN4 race?
Formula E plans to introduce GEN4 in the 2026/27 season. The FIA has said that season is due to begin in December 2026, but calendars can change. The unveiling therefore does not mean the new car is already competing in championship races.

How to read the reveal
The “more menacing” reaction captures the impression of a more aggressive new car, while the most concrete change in the announcement is the combination of higher stated performance, active all-wheel drive and a 450 kW standard race mode alongside a 600 kW peak figure. Formula E and FIA figures are useful indicators of the intended specification, but they should remain identified as official claims until independent on-track comparisons are available.
