The UK model page labels it “smart #2·2027” and says local timing and availability are still to be confirmed.
What is the smart #2?
Announced on September 2, 2025, the smart #2 is an all-electric A-segment car with two seats. It is intended as a return to the ultra-compact city-car format associated with the smart fortwo. smart says Mercedes-Benz Design is responsible for the styling, while smart’s in-house team developed a proprietary compact-vehicle architecture. The company says production will take place in China, with the car intended for China, Europe and selected other global markets. smart’s announcement described the fortwo as having been loved by more than two million customers worldwide; that figure is smart’s own historical claim.
The smart #2 is distinct from the smart Concept #2 shown in April 2026. smart described that earlier vehicle as a concept and said it was not offered for sale. The later engineering disclosures concern the planned production model, though its specifications remain preliminary.
When will the smart #2 come out?
smart’s September 28, 2026 announcement schedules the production car’s world premiere for October 12 at the Paris Motor Show. A premiere introduces the vehicle; it does not confirm when orders open or when deliveries begin in any particular country.

For the UK, smart’s official page calls the model “smart #2·2027” and says launch timing, specifications and availability will be confirmed closer to release. It also says official UK range, charging-time and energy-consumption figures will follow homologation. The available announcements do not establish a final price, order-opening date or country-by-country retail schedule, so 2026 should not be treated as a confirmed UK on-sale year.
What specifications has smart disclosed?
In a September 28, 2026 engineering release, smart published preliminary production-model figures. The company says specifications may vary by market, and its approximately 300 km WLTP range is explicitly a target that has not yet been certified. These are manufacturer disclosures, not independent test results.

Those figures do not yet establish the car’s final range, charging performance or equipment in every market. The WLTP number is a target rather than a certified result, and the validation figures are reported by smart; they should not be read as independent safety ratings or road-test results.
What is known about development and testing?
In July 2026, smart said the car was undergoing global pre-production testing. The company described assessments of urban agility, lane changes, wet low-grip conditions, cabin noise and vibration, and durability on rough roads. This is smart’s account of its development programme, not an independent road test or safety evaluation. Its performance descriptions—including claims about stability, refinement and agility—are manufacturer positioning.

What should prospective buyers wait to confirm?
- Final, homologated range and energy-consumption figures for their market.
- Market-specific charging specifications and equipment.
- Price, order-opening date and expected delivery timing.
- Whether and when the car will be sold in their country.
Until those details are announced, the preliminary engineering figures are useful for understanding the car’s intended size and direction, but not for making a definitive purchase comparison. A fair comparison with a sale-ready city EV would need matching market-specific information for seating and dimensions, certified range and battery capacity, connector and charging time, turning circle, price, order timing, warranty and local availability.
