Slate calls the SUV versions Squareback, Fastback and Open Air. The current company-announced pickup price is $24,950 before a separate destination charge and other costs; the SUV versions start at $29,950, according to Slate’s June 24, 2026 release. The vehicle remains preproduction, so its range, specifications, price and delivery timing are company claims rather than confirmed production results.
How the pickup becomes an SUV
Slate says every vehicle begins as a two-seat pickup, with the option to take delivery in a five-seat SUV configuration or convert it later. Its three named SUV forms are the Squareback, Fastback and Open Air. Slate describes the Squareback as the traditional, squared-off shape, the Fastback as sportier, and the Open Air as a rear-bench configuration without a hardtop or rear windows. These are company descriptions, not independent assessments of comfort or cargo capacity. Slate’s FAQ explains the configurations.

The conversion and accessories are central to the concept: instead of treating every feature as standard, Slate says owners can add options over time through its marketplace. In its June 24, 2026 release, the company said it had more than 200 accessories, over 80% priced below $500, and more than 100 wrap colors at launch. Those are dated company figures, and available products and prices can change. Slate’s June 2026 release also quoted CEO Peter Faricy: “Slate gives customers the freedom to buy only what they need today and personalize their vehicle as their needs change tomorrow.”
What the pickup and SUV are announced to cost
Slate’s current FAQ lists the Blank Slate pickup at $24,950. The specifications sheet lists a separate $1,450 destination charge; taxes, title, registration, government fees, documentation charges and optional equipment can raise the total. Slate says the $300 preorder deposit is credited toward the purchase price. The company’s June 24, 2026 release says the Squareback and Fastback SUVs start at $29,950; that starting price should not be read as including every customization. See the FAQ, specifications sheet and June 2026 release for Slate’s figures.

These are announced prices, not an out-the-door quote. A buyer comparing the pickup with an SUV should account for the chosen body configuration, destination, taxes and fees, and any accessories. Slate’s June 2026 materials say first deliveries are slated for late 2026, but that is a company projection for a preproduction vehicle.
Announced specifications: range, charging and utility
Slate’s June 24, 2026 specifications sheet describes a rear-wheel-drive truck with one motor, a 65 kWh battery pack (63 kWh usable), 135 kW output and a projected 205-mile pickup range. Slate says the estimate approximates the EPA test cycle, but it is not an official EPA estimated range. The sheet warns that the truck is preproduction and specifications may change. Slate’s specifications sheet is the source for these figures.
Slate estimates a 20–80% DC charge in 30 minutes at 120 kW, and a 20–100% Level 2 AC charge in four hours at 11 kW. Actual charging time depends on conditions. The vehicle is listed with NACS charging; Slate says a charging cable and J1772 adapter are included, and that the truck can charge from a 120V household outlet or a 240V outlet using the included cable. Slate also names Treehouse as a partner for home charger or outlet installation. These are Slate’s announced provisions and estimates, not independent charging-test results. Slate’s FAQ and specifications sheet provide the details.
The company lists different maximum payload and towing figures for the two body configurations:

What “low-tech” means inside
Slate says there is no built-in infotainment system. Instead, the cabin is designed around a mounted and charged phone: owners can use phone apps, but Slate says Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not part of the setup. The company says a bracket can accommodate a large tablet, a holder is available for a portable Bluetooth speaker, and optional Slate speakers can be fitted. That approach avoids a built-in infotainment screen, but it also means relying on your own phone and chosen audio device. Slate’s FAQ describes the setup.
Low-tech does not mean the company says the cabin has no climate controls or safety equipment. Slate lists heating and air conditioning with analog controls, along with traction control, electronic stability control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, airbags, a backup camera, pedestrian identification and automatic high beams. Slate says the vehicle is designed to achieve a five-star US NCAP crash rating; that is a design target, not a published crash-test result. The FAQ lists these features.
Warranty and service plans Slate has announced
Slate states a 10-year/110,000-mile battery and powertrain warranty, a 4-year/50,000-mile standard limited vehicle warranty, and four years/50,000 miles of roadside assistance. The company says it plans to use RepairPal-certified shops for service and accessory installation. These are Slate’s announced terms and plans; buyers should consult the final purchase documents for the coverage that applies to their vehicle. Slate’s FAQ contains the company’s current statements.

What has changed since the 2025 reveal
The figures are not the same as the original announcement. Slate’s April 24, 2025 release projected a starting price under $20,000 after federal incentives, 150 miles of standard range, and a 240-mile estimate with an accessory battery. Its June 24, 2026 release instead gives a $24,950 pickup base price and a projected 205-mile range. The older numbers should not be treated as current offers or specifications. Compare the June 2026 release with the April 2025 announcement.
Quick Recap
What prospective buyers should keep in mind
- Reservations are not deliveries: Slate reported more than 180,000 reservation holders in its June 24, 2026 release. That is a company-reported reservation figure, not a count of completed sales, firm orders or vehicles delivered.
- Range and performance are not independently established here: the 205-mile figure is Slate’s projected pickup estimate, not an official EPA value or a real-world test result.
- Configuration changes the trade-offs: the SUV provides five seats, while Slate lists lower payload and towing maxima than for the pickup.
- Plan around your charging access: the announced range and charging estimates are most useful when considered alongside your typical trips and ability to charge at home or elsewhere.
- Expect a developing product: Slate describes the truck as preproduction, so specifications, pricing, configurations, delivery timing and marketplace offerings may change.
