What does the Slate Truck cost now?
Slate Auto’s June 24, 2026 announcement lists the pickup at $24,950 and its Squareback and Fastback SUV versions starting at $29,950. The release also announced a $300 preorder deposit. The listed prices do not include taxes, title, license, registration, government fees, destination and documentation fees, or optional equipment. Why was Slate’s launch price described as below $20,000?
When Slate introduced the truck on April 24, 2025, it described an expected price below $20,000 after federal incentives. Its launch materials separately said the expected price excluded taxes and fees, and warned that the vehicle was preproduction and specifications and pricing could change. TechCrunch reported on July 3, 2025 that Slate stopped promoting the under-$20,000 framing after the federal EV tax credit was set to end; the report cited the $7,500 credit in explaining the launch-era claim. What range and specifications has Slate announced?
Slate’s June 2026 specification sheet describes the pickup as a preproduction, single-motor, rear-wheel-drive vehicle with a 65-kWh LFP battery, 135 kW of power, an 11-kW onboard charger, and NACS charging compatibility. The sheet estimates 205 miles of range and says Level 3 charging from 20% to 80% will take 30 minutes. Slate calls the range an approximation of the EPA test cycle, not an official EPA estimate; real-world range varies with temperature, driving habits, accessories, charging and battery condition. For the pickup, Slate lists a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds and a payload of 1,550 pounds. These, like the range and other figures, are manufacturer specifications for a preproduction vehicle and may change. Slate’s launch-era estimates are not the current figures: in April 2025, it described a 52.7-kWh base battery targeting 150 miles and an optional 84.3-kWh pack targeting 240 miles. What is distinctive about the Slate’s setup?
A simple pickup that can be converted
At launch, Slate described a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive pickup with a single factory configuration, crank windows, manual HVAC controls and a large front trunk. It also presented an SUV conversion kit to add seating for five. Bring-your-own phone and charging access
Launch materials described a universal phone mount and USB power instead of a conventional built-in infotainment interface. Slate has also announced NACS compatibility and Tesla Supercharger access, and NACS appears in the June 2026 specification sheet. The available documents do not establish whether every final vehicle configuration will include the same phone mount or equipment, so confirm the included items for the specific vehicle ordered. Accessories and personalization
Slate’s June 2026 release describes more than 200 Marketplace accessories, over 80% priced below $500, and more than 100 wrap colors. Accessories allow owners to add equipment as needs change, but they can raise the cost beyond the listed base price. Axios reported that customer preferences could increase the final cost. Neither Slate’s accessory categories nor the announced Marketplace establish that unrelated third-party parts will fit; verify compatibility before buying. When is the Slate Truck expected to be available?
Slate said first deliveries were expected in Q4 2026. It also said assembly is planned at a reindustrialized factory in Warsaw, Indiana. These are company plans and timing expectations; the June 2026 release described the vehicles as preproduction, so the announced schedule does not establish that customer production or deliveries have begun.
