What’s new for the 2025 Toyota Highlander?
U.S.: Hybrid Limited 25th Edition
Toyota’s U.S. announcement presents the Hybrid Limited 25th Edition as the model-year highlight. It is based on the Hybrid Limited AWD and adds distinctive exterior and interior details. The announcement also identifies a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen, 11-speaker JBL premium audio system, three-zone automatic climate control, and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ among Limited-based equipment. These are manufacturer-described features; check the vehicle’s window sticker and local dealer for the exact equipment on a particular car. Toyota also describes a Beyond Zero HEV badge for 2025 Highlander models with hybrid powertrains. This is a badge change, not evidence of a redesigned vehicle.
Canada: selected equipment and badge changes
Toyota Canada says the gas XSE gains a 12.3-inch full digital gauge cluster for 2025, while Canadian-market Hybrid models receive a Carbon Neutral badge. Canada’s Hybrid lineup also includes an XLE Nightshade Edition, a limited-production, XLE-based appearance version with black exterior details and black-upholstered seats. What carries over, and is the Highlander redesigned?
Toyota’s 2025 announcements emphasize a special edition and selected equipment and badge changes; they do not establish a full redesign for the model year. The Highlander continues with separate gas and Hybrid powertrains, available all-wheel drive, and three rows. U.S. sources cited here do not establish a complete gas-trim equipment or pricing matrix, so Canadian trim information should not be used to fill that gap.
Gas or Hybrid: how do the powertrains compare?
The most useful comparison is between the powertrain, fuel-economy figure, towing rating, and AWD system. The specifications below are Toyota Canada’s published figures unless identified as U.S. data; they are not independent test results.

Toyota’s U.S. consumer page lists the 2025 Highlander Hybrid at an estimated 35 mpg combined. That U.S. estimate is separate from Canada’s 6.7 L/100 km combined rating; do not treat the different market figures or units as a direct fuel-economy test comparison. Toyota USA: 2025 Highlander Hybrid
For a buyer prioritizing towing capacity, Toyota Canada’s published rating favors the gas model. A buyer considering the Hybrid should compare the applicable local fuel-economy estimate with their own driving and verify towing needs against the vehicle’s local-market specifications.

How many people can the 2025 Highlander seat?
Toyota Canada lists seven- and eight-passenger layouts. Seven-seat versions have second-row captain’s chairs; eight-seat versions use a 60/40 second-row bench. What safety and technology does Toyota specify?
Toyota Canada says every Canadian-market 2025 Highlander includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, Toyota Star Safety System, eight airbags, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a backup camera, and tire-pressure monitoring. Toyota’s U.S. special-edition announcement names these TSS 2.5+ functions: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, and Automatic High Beams. These are manufacturer-specified driver-assistance systems, not guarantees that a collision will be prevented; equipment and availability should be confirmed for the market and trim.

Toyota Canada says Toyota Multimedia integrates wirelessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its Canadian XSE, Limited, and Platinum descriptions include a 12.3-inch touchscreen; the XSE’s 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is the newly identified 2025 change. Confirm exact screen and audio equipment on the specific vehicle rather than assuming every grade has the same setup.
