Slate Auto has opened preorders for its electric pickup, but the truck is not yet in customer driveways. The production-intent version starts at $24,950 before destination and other fees, and Slate expects first deliveries in Q4 2026.
The price is notable, but the Slate is unlike most modern EVs. It is a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive pickup with a phone-based cabin, hand-crank windows, composite body panels, and a design that can be converted into a five-seat SUV. Here is what is confirmed—and what remains an estimate.

Slate electric truck price: what you actually pay
The base Blank Slate pickup has an MSRP of $24,950. That is not the vehicle’s pre-tax, out-the-door price. Slate lists a mandatory $1,450 destination charge, bringing the starting subtotal to $26,400.
| Cost | Amount |
|---|---|
| Base Blank Slate pickup | $24,950 |
| Destination charge | $1,450 |
| Subtotal before tax and other fees | $26,400 |
| Preorder deposit | $300 |
| Deposit for customers with an existing $50 reservation | $250 |
Taxes, title, license, registration, government fees, documentation fees, and options are extra. Slate sells directly to consumers rather than through conventional franchised dealerships. The preorder deposit is nonrefundable, although it is applied to the final purchase price.

Earlier coverage often described the truck as costing less than $20,000. That figure depended on an EV tax credit that is no longer available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, subject to IRS transition rules. The current advertised price is $24,950, not a sub-$20,000 price.
Slate’s initial SUV configurations start at $29,950, before destination and other fees.
Release date and preorder status
Slate announced the current pricing and opened preorders on June 24, 2026. The company expects first deliveries in Q4 2026. The truck remains in preproduction, so availability, specifications, and timing can still change.

Customers can check their assigned delivery window through their Slate account. Slate generally gives customers 30 days after receiving an estimated delivery window to place the preorder deposit; waiting longer may push the delivery window back.
- Visit Slate’s preorder page and create or access a Slate account.
- Review the assigned delivery window when it becomes available.
- Place the required deposit within the stated window if you want to preserve that position.
- Configure the truck, select any pickup-to-SUV or appearance accessories, and complete the purchase process when Slate requests it.
A preorder is not the same as immediate availability. There is no broad customer delivery program yet, and the vehicle has not reached normal production.
Range and battery
The current Slate range projection is 205 miles. The truck uses a 65-kWh LFP battery, with approximately 63 kWh usable.
That 205-mile number is not an official EPA rating. Slate says it is an estimate based on an approximation of the EPA test cycle. Actual results will depend on temperature, speed, driving style, payload, accessories, charging conditions, and battery age.

The current battery is larger than the roughly 150-mile pack discussed earlier. Slate has also dropped the previously discussed larger battery option that was expected to provide approximately 240 miles. Buyers should therefore treat 205 miles as the current projected figure, not assume that a longer-range version is available.
Motor, drivetrain, and charging
The Slate uses a single electric motor mounted at the rear, driving the rear wheels. Output is listed at 135 kW, or approximately 181 horsepower, with 264 Nm of torque—about 195 lb-ft.
| Specification | Slate pickup |
|---|---|
| Drive layout | Rear-wheel drive |
| Motor | Single rear-mounted electric motor |
| Output | 135 kW / approximately 181 hp |
| Torque | 264 Nm / approximately 195 lb-ft |
| Estimated 0–60 mph | 8.0 seconds |
| Estimated top speed | 90 mph |
| Battery chemistry | LFP |
| Charging connector | NACS |
Slate estimates a 20–100% Level 2 charge will take approximately four hours using its 11-kW onboard AC charger. DC fast charging is listed at up to 120 kW, with an estimated 20–80% charge taking about 30 minutes.
Those figures are manufacturer estimates. Charging speed can vary with battery temperature, charger output, state of charge, and the vehicle’s software.

The pickup is 174.6 inches long and 70.6 inches wide without its mirrors. With the mirrors extended, width increases to 78.1 inches. Its 108.9-inch wheelbase and 37-foot turning circle should make it substantially easier to place in tight urban spaces than a full-size pickup.
| Dimension or capability | Pickup specification |
|---|---|
| Length | 174.6 in |
| Width without mirrors | 70.6 in |
| Width with mirrors | 78.1 in |
| Height | 68.0 in |

| Frunk volume | 7.0 cu. ft. |
| Curb weight | 4,048 lb |
| Payload | 1,550 lb |
| Towing capacity | 2,000 lb |
The roughly five-foot bed is suited to everyday hauling, home-improvement supplies, bikes, and recreational equipment, but the 2,000-pound tow rating is modest by pickup standards. The 1,550-pound payload figure also needs to cover passengers, cargo, and accessories.
From two-seat pickup to five-seat SUV
Every Slate starts as a two-seat pickup unless the buyer orders it as an SUV. A conversion kit can add a second row and turn the vehicle into a five-seat model.

Slate estimates up to 80.5 cubic feet of interior volume in SUV form, including 58.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The company says owners can install many accessories themselves, with instructions provided through Slate U. That approach is central to the truck’s design: buyers can add capability and appearance equipment over time rather than paying for every feature on day one.
What comes in the base Slate
The low starting price reflects a deliberately sparse cabin. The base vehicle does not have built-in infotainment, a standard touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto. Instead, Slate expects owners to use a phone, tablet, or portable Bluetooth speaker for navigation and audio.
The truck does include phone mounting and charging options, while larger tablet mounts, speakers, and other technology are available as accessories. Heating and air conditioning use physical controls rather than depending on a central touchscreen.
Other notable cost-saving choices include hand-crank windows and Slate Gray composite bodywork. Buyers can personalize the exterior with wraps instead of selecting conventional factory paint. These features may appeal to buyers who prefer simple, repairable equipment, but they will feel unusual to anyone coming from a newer mainstream vehicle.
Safety equipment and warranty
Slate says the truck is designed to achieve a five-star U.S. NCAP rating. That is a development target, not a published final crash-test result, so it should not be reported as an achieved five-star rating.
Listed safety equipment includes:
- Traction control
- Electronic stability control
- Forward-collision warning
- Automatic emergency braking
- Front airbags
- Side-curtain airbags
- Seat-mounted side airbags
- Backup camera
- Pedestrian identification
- Automatic high beams
Slate lists a 10-year/110,000-mile battery and powertrain warranty. Final warranty details for the complete vehicle and accessory systems should be checked before purchase.

The Slate’s appeal is not simply that it is an inexpensive electric truck. It is a compact, low-equipment vehicle that lets the buyer decide whether the truck should remain a two-seat hauler or become a five-seat SUV. The useful numbers are the $26,400 pre-tax subtotal, 205-mile projected range, 2,000-pound towing limit, and Q4 2026 delivery target—not the old sub-$20,000 claims.

It could make sense for an urban or suburban owner who wants an efficient commuter, a small cargo bed, and straightforward controls. It is less convincing as a long-distance road-trip vehicle or as a replacement for a midsize truck used for serious towing. Since it remains in preproduction, buyers also need to accept the normal risks of ordering a vehicle before final validation, EPA testing, and full production have been completed.

FAQ
How much does the Slate electric pickup cost?
The base Blank Slate pickup has an MSRP of $24,950. Adding the mandatory $1,450 destination charge brings the subtotal to $26,400 before taxes, title, registration, documentation fees, and options.
When will Slate deliver the electric truck?
Slate expects first deliveries in Q4 2026. The truck is currently in preproduction, so the delivery schedule and specifications remain subject to change.
How far can the Slate truck go on one charge?
Slate currently projects 205 miles of range from its 65-kWh LFP battery. This is not an official EPA rating, and real-world range will vary with weather, speed, payload, accessories, and driving conditions.
Does the Slate come with Apple CarPlay or a touchscreen?
No. The base truck does not include a built-in infotainment system, standard touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto. Slate intends owners to use a phone, tablet, or portable Bluetooth speaker for navigation and audio.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Slate is a real $24,950 electric pickup MSRP, but it is not a $24,950 out-the-door vehicle and it is not available for immediate delivery. The current version offers a projected 205-mile range, rear-wheel drive, a five-foot bed, 1,550 pounds of payload, and 2,000 pounds of towing capacity. Its stripped-down cabin and convertible pickup-to-SUV design are the defining tradeoffs. For buyers comfortable with a preproduction preorder and modest range, it is one of the most unusual low-cost EVs on the horizon; for everyone else, the final EPA rating, crash-test results, production timing, and real-world pricing are still important unanswered questions.
