Which automatic gearbox does the Škoda Slavia have?
The answer depends on the car’s engine and production period. Škoda Auto India’s current Slavia page lists two automatic powertrains:

Škoda’s August 18, 2026 announcement describes the new eight-speed torque converter with the 1.0 TSI and the seven-speed DSG with the 1.5 TSI. Its October 6, 2026 launch announcement repeats that pairing and said deliveries were scheduled to begin the following week. Those announcements describe the new model, not every Slavia already on the road.

Earlier 1.0 TSI cars are different
The original 1.0 TSI Slavia automatic launched in 2022 with a six-speed torque converter. Škoda’s 2024 technical brochure also lists a 1.0 TSI six-speed automatic alongside the 1.5 TSI seven-speed DSG. Therefore, a used Slavia advertised simply as “1.0 automatic” could have either a six-speed or an eight-speed torque converter, depending on its year and specification.

How to verify the gearbox in your own Slavia
Do not rely on a sales listing, a badge or the word “automatic” in a registration advertisement. Use the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the documents supplied with that exact car.
- Record the model year, engine designation and VIN from the car and its registration documents.
- Open Škoda’s Slavia owner’s-manual portal. Use the model and VIN or the applicable edition to obtain the manual for your vehicle.
- Read the transmission and selector sections in that manual. They are the authority for the symbols, operating sequence, warnings, towing instructions and any scheduled checks on your edition.
- Ask an authorised Škoda service adviser to confirm the transmission specification against the VIN before ordering fluid, parts or a service package.
- For a used car, compare the VIN result with the service invoices. A mismatch between the advertisement, manual and invoices is a reason to pause the purchase until Škoda confirms the build data.
Torque converter and DSG: what the names mean
Torque-converter automatic
A torque-converter automatic uses a fluid coupling between the engine and gearbox and changes ratios through an automatic gearset. In the Slavia, that architecture applies to the current 1.0 TSI eight-speed unit and the earlier 1.0 TSI six-speed unit. The shared “torque converter” label does not mean the six-speed and eight-speed versions have identical software, calibration or service requirements.

Seven-speed DSG
DSG is Škoda’s dual-clutch automated transmission design. It is fitted to the 1.5 TSI in the current range and was also paired with the 1.5 TSI in earlier specifications. A DSG and a torque converter are mechanically different systems; the word “automatic” alone cannot tell you which one is installed.

Official material supplied for the Slavia confirms the hardware pairings but does not publish a controlled comparison of low-speed smoothness, launch speed, hill performance, fuel consumption or long-term reliability. Do not treat engine output numbers as gearbox test results. The 85 kW/178 Nm and 110 kW/250 Nm figures above are engine specifications quoted in Škoda’s 2022 launch material.
Current trim and engine combinations
The current product page lists automatic versions by engine rather than offering one transmission across every trim. The combinations shown are:

The same page also lists manual versions. Consequently, a trim name by itself is not enough to identify the transmission; engine and VIN remain the decisive checks.

Use the VIN-matched manual for intervals and fluids
Škoda’s manual portal provides a Slavia manual edition and VIN lookup, but the available source material does not establish one universal gearbox-fluid replacement interval for every Slavia automatic. Intervals, fluid specifications, inspection points and service warnings can vary with the transmission and model year.

Follow the maintenance schedule in the manual for your VIN and the service record for your vehicle. If the manual calls for a transmission inspection or fluid operation, have it performed with the specified fluid and procedure by an authorised Škoda workshop. Do not substitute a generic fluid, additive or online interval for the VIN-specific instruction.
Service-plan announcement
Škoda’s October 6, 2026 announcement says the new Slavia Super Care package includes a four-year warranty, four years of roadside assistance and four labour-free services. Confirm that the particular car, purchase date, region and contract terms qualify; an announcement does not automatically extend those benefits to every earlier Slavia.
When to stop driving and request diagnosis
Arrange prompt authorised diagnosis if the car displays a transmission warning, develops a fluid leak, produces an unusual noise, hesitates repeatedly, refuses to select a range or shifts in a way that is clearly abnormal for the vehicle. The available official material does not support a reliable remote diagnosis from a symptom alone. Avoid opening the gearbox, topping up unknown fluid or installing an additive before the workshop identifies the transmission and the fault.
Driving guidance for traffic, hills and parking
Start with the correct manual
Selector labels, manual-mode operation, parking procedure, towing limits and warning responses must come from the owner’s manual for your VIN. The reviewed official passages do not provide Slavia-specific instructions for creep, hill holds, low-speed shift logic or manual-mode use, so generic internet advice should not override Škoda’s instructions.

Use a test drive to answer behavior questions
If you are buying or comparing cars, record observations rather than assuming that one gearbox is universally better. With the seller’s permission and on a safe route, check whether the car responds predictably when moving away, joining a roundabout, reversing, stopping and restarting in traffic, and climbing a representative slope. Note any warning message, repeated hesitation, harsh engagement or unexpected noise and have it inspected before purchase.
This is an evaluation checklist, not a claim that a particular Slavia transmission behaves in a specific way. The official sources do not rank the eight-speed torque converter, six-speed torque converter and seven-speed DSG for comfort, fuel economy or reliability.
Traffic and parking precautions
Use the selector and parking sequence printed in the applicable manual, especially on a slope. If you are unsure which position or procedure your car requires, stop and consult the manual or an authorised adviser rather than experimenting. Is every Slavia automatic a DSG?

Can I identify the gearbox from the engine alone?
Engine and model year narrow the possibilities, but VIN confirmation is safer. The 1.0 TSI changed from a six-speed to an eight-speed torque converter in the newer range, while the 1.5 TSI is listed with a seven-speed DSG in the cited specifications.
What is the official fluid-change interval?
No single interval is established for all Slavia automatics in the available official passages. Check the VIN-matched manual and service schedule, then confirm the operation with an authorised Škoda workshop.
Which gearbox is smoother or more reliable?
