Victoria Police are appealing for information after a silver 1972 Holden Monaro, valued by police at around $120,000, was stolen from a garage in Berwick, Melbourne’s south-east. Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives want anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
What happened to the Holden Monaro?
Victoria Police say unknown offender or offenders gained access to a garage at a property on Jack William Way, Berwick, during a burglary. The access window was between 1pm on August 14 and 1.45pm on August 16, 2026. Nobody was inside the home at the time.
The stolen car is described as a silver 1972 Holden Monaro. The approximately $120,000 figure is Victoria Police’s estimate of its value in the appeal published October 1, 2026; it is not an independently verified sale valuation. The police notice does not identify the car’s submodel, registration, VIN, engine or modifications.
How can the public help?
Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating. Victoria Police released images of the vehicle in the hope that someone would recognise it and is asking people with information, relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria.

The appeal does not name an investigator. Its published request is for information and footage that could assist the investigation.
Has the Monaro been recovered?
The Victoria Police appeal published October 1 does not state whether the car has since been found. Its current status cannot be confirmed from that notice.

Victoria Police says it recovers around 80% of all vehicles stolen each year, but the page does not specify the statistic’s year. That broad agency figure is not an estimate of this Monaro’s individual recovery prospects, and it is not specific to classic cars.

Victoria Police advises owners to lock doors and windows, secure keys, consider anti-theft devices and park in a secure, well-lit area. Examples it lists include steering-wheel locks, remote battery disconnect switches, alarms, immobilisers and generic GPS or Bluetooth trackers. The appeal does not say what security measures were in place at the Berwick property, and the guidance does not establish that any single measure would have prevented this theft.

What to do if a vehicle is stolen or spotted
- If your vehicle is stolen, report it to police and contact your insurer. Do not confront a suspected thief.
- If you see a vehicle you suspect is stolen, do not approach, stop or interfere with it. Report it through an appropriate channel instead.
