How to choose a trailer or trolley setup
Start with where the load must go
If you need a carrier for the bicycle ride and for walking through a shop or home, look for an explicitly stated trolley or hand-cart mode. Burley describes the Travoy as a hand cart after detachment; Andersen says its Shopper returns to trolley use; ODILO offers distinct trolley and trailer kits as well as a Combo. Verify how the drawbar or hitch is stowed and whether changing modes requires moving the groceries.
Check the exact bicycle attachment
Do not assume that a trailer hitch fits every bicycle. Andersen identifies bicycle-side coupling options for the luggage carrier or seat strut, while Burley describes a quick-release hitch and notes that some bikes may need an adapter. Before buying, check the manufacturer’s instructions against your bike’s rack, seat area, axle, and any existing accessories.

Compare the stated load limit in the right mode
Burley lists 60 pounds for the Travoy. ODILO lists less than 25 kilograms for its Trolley Kit and up to 50 kilograms for its Trailer Kit. These are product-specific manufacturer figures; they should not be treated as equivalent limits for different modes or applied to a modified store cart.
Consider storage and carrying indoors
Burley describes the Travoy as folding to a briefcase-size form. Andersen says its bag and wheels can be removed for compact storage, and ODILO describes foldable kits. Those details matter if you need to carry the carrier upstairs, store it in a small home, or bring it inside after shopping. Check the product page for the current dimensions and configuration before relying on a particular storage fit.

Is it safe to attach a regular shopping cart to a bike?
The available evidence does not establish a safe DIY method for turning an ordinary supermarket cart into a bicycle trailer.
