On 93-octane pump gasoline, its stated rating is 1,000 hp and 780 lb-ft. The bigger catch is that Shelby labels the conversion “off-road only” and says it voids manufacturer warranties. Those figures and warnings come from Shelby; the available sources do not independently verify performance or establish road legality in every jurisdiction.
How much power does the GT500 Code Red make?
Shelby American lists two output ratings for its twin-turbo conversion: up to 1,300 hp and 1,000 lb-ft on E85, or 1,000 hp and 780 lb-ft on 93-octane pump gasoline. The 1,300-hp figure is therefore not the pump-gas rating. These are Shelby’s published figures, not independently verified test results. Shelby’s current Code Red page and its August 2022 announcement give the ratings.
What is the major limitation?
Shelby designates it off-road only
Shelby’s announcement explicitly says, “Vehicle is off-road only.” That is the manufacturer’s stated use restriction. It does not, by itself, settle whether a particular car can be registered or legally driven on public roads in a given jurisdiction; the reviewed sources do not establish jurisdiction-specific approvals.
The conversion voids manufacturer warranties
Shelby also warns that the package voids manufacturer warranties. Buyers should treat that as a material cost and ownership consideration before converting a GT500, rather than assume the donor car’s factory coverage will remain intact.
#1 Best Overall
- Die-cast metal body with plastic parts
- Opening doors and engine compartment
- Adjustable seat back on some models
- Full function steering with Four wheel spring suspension
- Detailed chassis with separate exhaust system
What does the Code Red conversion include?
This is a substantial conversion, not a standalone engine tune. Shelby describes a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V8 system identified on its current page as Shelby by Fathouse Performance, along with supporting changes to the car.
- Twin-turbo hardware, fuel-system changes and MoTeC engine management
- Cooling and suspension work
- Widebody components, wheels and tires
- Axles, interior changes and carbon-fiber parts
Shelby presents the current package as a production version of the idea behind its experimental 2008 Code Red. The earlier car replaced a GT500 supercharger with twin turbos, but Shelby says its cost and extreme nature made it unsuitable for production. Shelby’s 2022 announcement describes that lineage.

How much does it cost, and which GT500s are eligible?
Shelby’s current product page lists a starting package price of $224,995 and says that price does not include the base GT500. It is therefore not the price of a complete car including the donor vehicle. The August 2022 announcement gave an earlier package price of $209,995; prices can change, so check Shelby’s listing for current terms. Current Code Red pricing and details.
Shelby describes the conversion for 2020–2022 GT500 model years and announced a limit of 10 cars per model year, or 30 total. That is the stated production cap, not proof that any conversion slots remain. Availability should be confirmed directly with Shelby.
