SEGA’s Shadow the Hedgehog motorcycle is real—but it is a one-off custom promotional build, not a production bike for sale. Called Dark Rider – Year of Shadow, it was created for SEGA’s 2024 Fearless: Year of Shadow campaign. It is scheduled to go under the hammer at Bonhams’ Autumn Stafford Sale on October 10–11, 2026, with proceeds benefiting the Luca Guintoli Foundation. As of October 8, 2026, the sale is still upcoming, so no final price or buyer has been established.
What is the Dark Rider motorcycle?
The auction catalogue identifies the lot as a 2000 Bourget 1,750cc Custom named Dark Rider – Year of Shadow. SEGA designed it with Oil Sweat & Gears and Atmospherics SFX; Bourget’s Bike Works produced it on a Bourget frame. The catalogue describes it as a unique, one-off motorcycle built for the 2024 Fearless: Year of Shadow campaign, rather than a consumer model announced for production. Bonhams catalogue material reproduced in the MotoGP San Marino Official Programme gives the build details.
Catalogue specifications
The following figures are the auction catalogue’s stated specifications, not the results of an independent inspection:
- Engine: 1,750 cc S&S Super Stock with Edelbrock cylinder heads
- Transmission: six-speed Ultimate
- Dimensions: approximately 2.6 metres long, 1.1 metres tall and 900 mm wide at the handlebars
- Listed weight: 280 kg
Display bike, not a ready-to-ride claim
Visordown’s August 12, 2026 report, citing the Bonhams listing, says the motorcycle is being offered as a static display model and would need recommissioning if a buyer wanted to ride it on the road. The catalogue specifications do not establish its current roadworthiness, so it should not be described as ready to ride. Visordown’s report on the auction and display status provides that qualification.

Why did SEGA build a Shadow motorcycle?
The bike was part of Fearless: Year of Shadow, which SEGA presented in October 2024 as a global theme for its Sonic intellectual property and a way to extend the brand through transmedia activity. The company named Sonic X Shadow Generations, the Knuckles series, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film and Sonic Rumble among that period’s franchise activity. The custom motorcycle made Shadow’s familiar motorcycle imagery into a physical campaign object; it was not an announcement of a new motorcycle product line. SEGA’s October 28, 2024 release outlines the campaign context.
The wider campaign included a major game release: SEGA said Sonic X Shadow Generations launched globally on October 25, 2024, and reported one million worldwide copies sold by October 28. That dated figure includes package and download sales across platforms; it is a launch-period milestone, not a current lifetime total. In the same release, SEGA said Sonic franchise series sales and downloads exceeded 1.66 billion, counting free-to-play downloads—a broader measure than paid game sales. The company announced the game for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC formats. SEGA’s June 10, 2024 game announcement lists the release platforms and edition contents.

When is the motorcycle auction, and who gets the proceeds?
The catalogue lists the Dark Rider at Bonhams’ Autumn Stafford Sale on October 10–11, 2026, without reserve. SEGA donated the bike to the Luca Guintoli Foundation, and the catalogue says the sale proceeds will go to the foundation. Because the auction is scheduled after October 8, 2026, its hammer price, buyer and completed-sale status are not yet known. The reproduced Bonhams catalogue entry gives the sale dates and charitable purpose.
The catalogue includes a statement from Sylvain Guintoli explaining the personal connection: his son Luca was a Sonic fan, and SEGA had previously supported Guintoli’s London Marathon challenge by featuring Sonic on his leathers. Guintoli says SEGA then donated the custom bike for the foundation’s benefit. The catalogue describes the foundation as funded by Guintoli and his wife Caroline and focused on helping children with cancer. Visordown’s coverage describes the foundation as supporting children with autism or cancer and their families; the available material does not establish its governing documents or a more detailed remit.

Is there a Shadow motorcycle you can buy?
The full-size Dark Rider is a single charity-auction lot, not a retail motorcycle. A separate, much smaller option is LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set 76995, which depicts Shadow with a motorcycle as part of a 196-piece play set for ages 8 and up. It is a toy, not a miniature version of the auction bike, and current stock and pricing are not established here. The set details come from an accessible-text adaptation of the instructions hosted by Bricks for the Blind.
