Volkswagen has not confirmed a second-generation ID. Buzz, a new platform, or a fix for a specific first-generation problem. The documented news is a set of 2027 model-year updates, announced separately for Europe and North America. They add an all-wheel-drive European trim, revised software, different battery capacities by wheelbase, and a North American Tourer package aimed at camping. Range remains an open question: owner comments often mention it, but Volkswagen has not announced a next-generation range increase.
What Volkswagen has actually confirmed
Volkswagen Group Sweden’s April 2026 announcement covers the European 2027 ID. Buzz. It introduces a Pro 4MOTION all-wheel-drive version, updated software and additional equipment. A separate Volkswagen Group of America announcement covers the North American 2027 model after a model-year 2026 hiatus. Neither announcement calls the vehicle a second generation or identifies a replacement platform.

That distinction matters because a model-year refresh can change trim content, software and equipment without being a clean-sheet vehicle. There is also no official release date, platform name or statement tying a future ID. Buzz to a particular “big issue” with the current van.

European 2027 ID. Buzz: battery, towing and software
The European Pro 4MOTION specification varies by wheelbase. Volkswagen Group Sweden lists these capacities and maximum towing ratings:
#1 Best Overall
- Collectible quality True-to-scale detailed vehicle
- Die-cast metal body with plastic parts
- Officially licensed product by Maisto International
- Highly-detailed die-cast precision model for collectible or play
- Detailed die-cast precision model
| European 2027 Pro 4MOTION | Standard wheelbase | Long wheelbase |
|---|---|---|
| Battery capacity | 79 kWh | 86 kWh |
| Maximum towing | 1,800 kg | 1,600 kg |
Those are market-specific figures from the Swedish announcement, not a promise that every country will receive the same configuration. Battery capacity is not a range figure; usable range depends on test cycle, weather, wheels, speed, load and equipment.
Connected Travel Assist and one-pedal driving
The European release describes Connected Travel Assist with traffic-light recognition. When the system detects a red light, it can brake the van to a stop. One-pedal driving can also bring the vehicle to a standstill when the accelerator is released. Availability and operating limits depend on local regulations, road markings and the vehicle’s fitted systems, so these functions should not be treated as autonomous driving.

Vehicle-to-Load and cabin features
Volkswagen Group Sweden specifies 2,000 watts of continuous Vehicle-to-Load output through the charging socket when used with an adapter. A separate Volkswagen Newsroom software announcement cites up to 3.6 kW for new ID models generally, but that broader figure should not be applied to every ID. Buzz; the ID. Buzz-specific European announcement is the relevant source for the 2,000-watt rating.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe 2027 European equipment list also includes an updated Innovision infotainment system, an app store, revised steering-wheel controls and continuous cabin climate control. Continuous climate control is particularly relevant to overnight stops, but it does not by itself establish a longer driving range.
North American 2027 lineup and the Tourer package
The North American announcement describes a revised lineup: Pro S rear-wheel drive, Pro S 4Motion, Tourer 4Motion and Pro S Plus 4Motion. It also lists revised colors and wheels, a NACS adapter and one-pedal driving. All North American versions are described as receiving the latest ID.S 6 software.
The announcement was circulated through a community post linking to Volkswagen’s release, so buyers should confirm final equipment, pricing and connector guidance on Volkswagen’s own North American materials before ordering.

This is a factory-described path toward occasional camping, not proof of a complete motorhome conversion. The announcement does not identify a named outfitter or establish that every accessory is standard in every market or package level.

Is range the “big issue” being fixed?
Some reader comments call range the most common ID. Buzz complaint and suggest that another 100 miles would solve it. Those are individual opinions, not a representative owner survey or an engineering measurement. No source establishes how widespread the complaint is, and Volkswagen has not announced a second-generation remedy or a like-for-like range increase.
The European announcement’s 79-kWh and 86-kWh capacities may affect energy available between charges, but they cannot be converted into a reliable miles or kilometres claim without official consumption and test-cycle data for the same wheelbase, drivetrain and market. The North American announcement likewise does not establish a new range figure.
How the existing long-wheelbase model fits in
Volkswagen’s June 2023 long-wheelbase announcement provides context for the current generation rather than evidence of a successor. It describes a wheelbase 250 millimetres longer than the standard version, seating for up to seven, up to 2,469 litres of storage, an 85-kWh net battery, a new heat pump intended to improve winter efficiency and a 210-kW motor option.
Those specifications help explain why buyers must separate wheelbase, seating and cargo decisions from battery and range claims. A long-wheelbase van can offer more passenger and luggage space while using a different battery or drivetrain configuration; the 2023 figures should not be treated as the 2027 European Pro 4MOTION ratings.
What prospective buyers should verify
- Market: Confirm whether the vehicle is European or North American; trim names, batteries, towing limits and equipment are not interchangeable.
- Model year: Check that the vehicle is a 2027 model before assuming it includes ID.S 6, one-pedal driving or the listed adapter.
- Connector: For a North American vehicle, verify the NACS adapter’s included status, connector direction and compatibility with the exact model year using Volkswagen guidance.
- Camping equipment: Confirm which Tourer items are factory-installed, included, optional or dealer-supplied in your country.
- Range: Compare official figures using the same test cycle and drivetrain. Do not infer range from battery kWh alone.
- Towing: Use the rating for the exact wheelbase and drive layout; the European Pro 4MOTION figures differ between standard and long wheelbase.
Bottom line
The defensible news is a 2027 update, not a confirmed second-generation Volkswagen ID. Buzz. Europe gets a documented Pro 4MOTION variant and software and equipment changes, while North America gets a revised lineup, NACS-adapter support and a camper-oriented Tourer. Volkswagen has not confirmed that the next ID. Buzz will deliver another 100 miles of range—or that a second generation exists at all.
