Schwalbe’s Clik Valve changes how a pump attaches to a bicycle tire: a compatible pump head or adapter clicks onto the valve and pulls off after inflation, without a locking lever or screw-on motion. You may be able to retrofit an existing bike, but the right kit depends on its valve type—and the click-on operation requires a compatible pump head or adapter.
What is the Schwalbe Clik Valve?
The Clik Valve is a valve-and-pump-head system designed so the matching pump head engages with a click. Schwalbe says it can be removed with two fingers after inflation. The aim is to make the connection simpler and reduce pump-head slippage and air loss during removal; those are manufacturer-stated goals, not independently established results. Schwalbe’s 2024 magazine describes the product and its intended operation.
A conventional Presta pump may still inflate a Clik Valve, according to distributor Ison, but a Clik-compatible head is needed for the intended click-on operation and full performance benefits. The valve and head are designed to work together, so check pump compatibility rather than assuming every existing pump will attach in the same way. Ison Distribution’s listing gives this compatibility guidance.
Will it fit my bike’s valve?
Schwalbe’s launch information describes conversion options for Presta/Sclaverand (SV) and Dunlop/Woods (DV) valves, plus a screw-on adapter for Schrader/Auto (AV). What you need depends on the valve fitted to your wheel and whether its insert can be replaced. Schwalbe’s product information lists the conversion approaches.

- Presta (SV): The tube must have a replaceable valve insert. The conversion replaces that insert; it will not work as described on a tube with a fixed, non-replaceable insert.
- Dunlop (DV): The conversion replaces the existing valve insert.
- Schrader (AV): A screw-on Clik adapter provides the conversion. Schwalbe says it can be removed when you need a conventional service-station pump.
How to choose a conversion kit
Do not assume every kit includes the part that goes on your pump. Schwalbe lists combinations that contain valve inserts alone, inserts with a pump head, or inserts with a pump-head adapter; it also lists the AV-SCV adapter and separate tubeless valve pairs. Confirm the contents and valve compatibility of the specific kit before buying. Schwalbe’s launch information describes these kit types.
- Identify the valve. Check whether your wheel has Presta, Dunlop, or Schrader valves.
- For Presta, check the insert. Confirm that the tube has a removable valve insert before choosing an SV conversion.
- Choose the pump-side part. If you want the click-on connection, select a kit with a compatible pump head or adapter—or verify that you already own one.
- For Schrader, consider your backup pump. The screw-on adapter can be removed for use with a conventional service-station pump.
Does it work with tubeless tires?
Yes. Schwalbe lists separate tubeless valve pairs in 40 mm, 60 mm, and 80 mm lengths. Choose a stem length that suits your rim depth and wheel setup; the listed lengths are options, not a universal fit. The distributor listing also says a special Clik pump head is required for the tubeless valves’ intended use. Schwalbe’s product information lists the lengths, while Ison Distribution notes the pump-head requirement.

Is the airflow claim independently verified?
Schwalbe claims that airflow in tubeless use is more than 50 percent higher than with its previous SV valve. That comparison is specifically for tubeless use against the prior SV valve. The manufacturer’s magazine does not provide an independent test protocol or results, and Ison repeats the figure as a distributor rather than as an independent test. What pumps and accessories support Clik?
Compatibility is expanding, but a catalog announcement is not proof that a product is currently in stock. SKS Germany’s 2027 new-products catalog lists an AirPort pump head that supports Schrader, Presta, Dunlop, and Schwalbe Clik Valve with automatic adjustment. It also lists Clik-specific products including the Clik Ace HV and HP hand pumps, a Clik Ace CO2 inflator, and the Clik Ace E electric inflator. The catalog gives availability windows in September or Q4 2026; check a retailer for current stock and exact model details. SKS Germany’s catalog is the source for those announced products and dates.

The practical change is at the pump-to-valve connection: with a compatible head, the system is intended to make attachment and removal simpler. Schwalbe attributes the invention to John Quintana and says it worked on the product for more than two years before mass production. In its 2024 magazine, Schwalbe Head of Research & Development Markus Hachmeyer called it a possible industry standard in the medium term. That is the company’s ambition, not evidence that the system has become an industry standard. Schwalbe’s magazine reports the development account and Hachmeyer’s view.
