What the X1 spy photos suggest
BMWBLOG reported on February 9, 2026, that spy photographers had captured X1 facelift prototypes testing on public roads in Sweden. The report points to expected revisions around the grille, headlights, and bumper, but camouflage makes it difficult to judge the production details. These are reported observations and expectations, not specifications confirmed by BMW. BMWBLOG’s spy-photo report also suggests possible interior technology changes; those remain expectations rather than confirmed equipment.
How Neue Klasse styling fits in
Motor.es reported on March 20, 2026, that the combustion X1 update would adopt Neue Klasse design language while remaining a facelift of the current generation. In other words, the reported connection is about styling, not confirmation that the combustion X1 is becoming an all-new Neue Klasse vehicle. The report highlights the front-end direction, but the camouflage prevents a definitive read of the finished design. Motor.es’s report describes 2027 as expected timing; BMW has not confirmed that date in the official product information reviewed.
Facelifted X1 and next-generation iX1 are different stories
The combustion X1 facelift should be kept separate from the electric iX1. BMWBLOG’s July 14, 2026 report describes the iX1 as a next-generation redesign, while the combustion X1 is expected to receive a lifecycle update. The same iX1 report discusses anticipated technical changes, including a rear-wheel-drive platform and next-generation battery technology, but BMW’s current product page does not confirm those future specifications. How the reports compare with the current X1
BMW’s German-market X1 page describes the current model with upright proportions, a nearly rectangular twin-kidney grille, optional slim LED headlights, and a Curved Display cockpit. It lists petrol and diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions. This is a useful baseline for understanding the current lineup, not evidence of what the facelift will look like or include. Motor.es reports that the combustion X1 facelift is expected in 2027. Treat that as reported timing rather than an official launch date: the BMW source reviewed does not confirm when the updated model will be revealed or go on sale. The available reporting likewise does not establish the facelift’s final equipment, cabin changes, or production design.
