Police advice in two dated local reports was straightforward: lock your vehicle, remove valuables, and park somewhere safe, busy and well lit where possible. A February 2024 report described increased property and vehicle theft in the Scarborough district, particularly vehicle theft in Innaloo; a September 2025 report later warned of vehicle break-ins in Innaloo, Doubleview and Osborne Park. Neither report establishes an active crime spike in October 2026.
What the local theft reports said—and when
Scarborough and Innaloo, February 2024
PerthNow reported on 15 February 2024 that Scarborough Police officer-in-charge Haydn Farrow had observed increased property and vehicle theft in the district, with vehicle theft particularly noted in Innaloo. The report said many offences occurred overnight, but gave no count or percentage for the increase. Read the February 2024 report.
Innaloo, Doubleview and Osborne Park, September 2025
A separate PerthNow report published on 11 September 2025 described a recent spike in vehicle break-ins across Innaloo, Doubleview and Osborne Park. It reported extra patrols and repeated advice to lock vehicles, remove valuables and report suspicious behaviour. This, too, is a dated warning rather than confirmation of current conditions. These reports are not a measured year-on-year comparison, and their descriptions should not be treated as proof of a rise in October 2026. WA Police explains that its crime statistics are based on offence location, are updated quarterly and can be influenced by population, infrastructure, seasonal patterns, reporting and detection. Figures may also be revised while investigations are unfinished. See WA Police crime statistics and their limitations.

How to reduce the chance of theft from your vehicle
The police advice reported locally focuses on making a vehicle less accessible and less tempting. These steps are practical precautions, not a guarantee against theft.
- Lock the vehicle. Check doors and windows when leaving, even if you will be away only briefly.
- Take valuables with you. The 2025 report specifically named wallets, passports, money, handbags, electronic devices and tools. Do not leave them visible; take them out of the vehicle where possible.
- Choose your parking place carefully. Prefer a garage or other secure facility when available. Otherwise, look for a busy, well-lit place.
- Consider anti-theft number-plate screws. The 2024 report attributed this optional deterrent to Farrow. Check that the screws suit your vehicle and plates; they can help deter plate theft but do not prevent every theft.
How to report an incident or suspicious activity in WA
Choose the channel based on whether there is immediate danger, a crime has already happened, or you are passing on information about suspicious activity. WA Police sets out these contact options on its reporting guidance.

- Call 000 for an emergency involving immediate danger or a serious crime in progress.
- Call 131 444 for a crime that has already happened or when police attendance is required.
- Contact Crime Stoppers anonymously online or on 1800 333 000 to report suspicious activity.
What local patrols and CCTV do—and do not—tell you
The City of Stirling says four community patrol vehicles operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Its Innaloo information page also describes an $80,000 commitment to upgrade CCTV at Morris Place Shopping Centre to assist WA Police. These are descriptions of local safety measures, not evidence that crime has increased or decreased, or a measured result showing how effective a measure has been.
