The important qualification is its purpose: Royal Enfield calls it a road scrambler and describes its off-road ability as “mild,” not as serious trail or enduro capability.
Is the Royal Enfield Bear 650 a real production bike?
Yes. Royal Enfield announced the Bear 650 at EICMA in November 2024 as part of its 650 Twin line, and it now appears on the company’s official US model page and India model page.
“650” is rounded model branding: both market pages list a 648cc engine. The Bear’s name and design reference Eddie’s win at the 1960 Big Bear Run. Royal Enfield CEO B. Govindarajan said, “Our inspiration for the Bear 650 came from one such legendary story – Eddie and that of the 1960 Big Bear Run.” The launch announcement also explicitly characterizes the motorcycle’s off-road ability as mild.
What is the catch with its off-road credentials?
The Bear has scrambler-oriented hardware, but that does not make it a lightweight dedicated off-road motorcycle. Royal Enfield lists 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, dual-purpose tires and 184 mm of ground clearance. Those features support occasional rough-road use; the manufacturer’s own “mild” description is the better guide to how far its off-road claims should be taken.

Weight is another important part of the picture. Royal Enfield’s India specification page gives a kerb weight of 216 kg, including fuel and oil. That figure is specific to the India page, not necessarily a universal market specification. Taken together, the published weight and the company’s road-scrambler positioning point to a road-oriented machine rather than a purpose-built trail bike.

What equipment does it offer?
The US model page lists a Tripper Dash with Google Maps integration, a 2-into-1 exhaust, upside-down forks, chunky dual-purpose tires and switchable rear ABS. Royal Enfield says Wingman connectivity is currently available in India only, so connectivity features may depend on the market.
