The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 and Super Meteor 650 share the same published engine output, but they are built around different riding layouts. The Shotgun is a custom-inspired roadster designed to switch between solo, two-seat and luggage-carrying configurations; the Super Meteor is a lower-seat cruiser, with touring equipment included on its Celestial variant. The right choice comes down to posture, seat height and configuration—not a stated power advantage.

Do they have the same engine?
Yes. Royal Enfield lists a 648 cc parallel twin for both motorcycles, producing 47 PS at 7,250 rpm and 52.3 Nm at 5,650 rpm. Those figures do not establish a power or torque advantage for either bike. The more useful distinction is how each model arranges the rider and supports different kinds of use.
How do their riding positions differ?
Shotgun 650: a configurable roadster layout
Royal Enfield describes the Shotgun as a custom-inspired motorcycle with mid-set foot pegs and a modular design. Its three configurations are single seat, double seat and luggage-carrying tourer. That flexibility is a defining feature if you want to change the bike’s setup for solo rides, a passenger or luggage.

Super Meteor 650: a lower-seat cruiser
The Super Meteor has a 740 mm seat height, compared with the Shotgun’s 795 mm—a 55 mm difference in the published figures. Royal Enfield describes its stance as laid-back, with a low-set, wide seat. Seat height alone cannot tell you how easily your feet reach the ground: seat shape and leg reach matter too, so sit on both motorcycles before deciding.
Which is better for touring?
There is no single touring winner established by the published specifications. The Shotgun provides a luggage-carrying configuration. The Super Meteor offers a larger fuel tank and, on the Celestial Tourer variant, a screen, touring seat and backrest. Its product page also describes alloy wheels and a wider rear tyre. Check which equipment is standard on the exact trim and in your market; the Celestial equipment should not be assumed to come on every Super Meteor.

The Super Meteor’s 15.7 L tank is 1.9 L larger than the Shotgun’s 13.8 L tank. Capacity is not the same as riding range, and the available manufacturer information does not provide comparable mileage figures for both motorcycles. Royal Enfield’s Shotgun India FAQ gives 22 kmpl as per CMVR and notes that weather and riding style affect fuel efficiency; that figure should not be transferred to the Super Meteor.
What do the weight, wheelbase and wheel sizes tell you?
With 90% fuel and oil, the listed kerb weights are 240 kg for the Shotgun and 241 kg for the Super Meteor—a 1 kg difference in those specified figures. The Shotgun’s separate 234.5 kg rider-only figure assumes the pillion seat, rear subframe and saree guard have been removed, so it is not a like-for-like standard configuration comparison.

These are specification distinctions, not enough on their own to establish which bike handles better or rides more comfortably.
