Rolls-Royce unveiled Project Nightingale on 14 April 2026 as an open-top, two-seat electric production concept and the first car in its Coachbuild Collection. The company plans to create 100 client cars worldwide, offered by invitation, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028. Price, range, battery capacity, power and charging details have not been announced.
What is Project Nightingale?
Project Nightingale is a two-seat, open-top electric car that Rolls-Royce describes as a production concept. The company says its design vision is resolved, but some details require new manufacturing techniques and further engineering information will be released as development continues. It is therefore not yet a fully specified production model.
It is the first entry in the marque’s Coachbuild Collection, a programme centred on bespoke coachbuilt cars. Rolls-Royce says the 100 cars will be coachbuilt by hand at Goodwood, England. Commissions are by invitation to clients with a deep affinity for the marque’s design; the company has not confirmed that all commissions are allocated.
How limited is it, and when will it arrive?
Rolls-Royce says the worldwide run is limited to 100 client cars. Deliveries are planned to begin from 2028; that is a future target, not confirmation that customer cars have been delivered.

The name refers to Le Rossignol, French for “the nightingale.” Henry Royce used that name for a house near his winter home on the Côte d’Azur, where designers and engineers worked.
What does the design look like?
The car is built around Rolls-Royce’s Architecture of Luxury aluminium spaceframe. The company says its styling draws on Streamline Moderne, with precise lines and uninterrupted forms, as well as the red-badged experimental cars 16EX and 17EX, created in 1928.

Distinctive exterior details
- 24-inch wheels: Rolls-Royce says their design takes inspiration from yacht propellers viewed underwater.
- Piano Boot: The boot opens sideways, and the company says it is being tested through 15,000 opening and closing cycles. That is a stated test-cycle target, not an independently verified lifetime rating.
- Rear brake lamp: A longitudinal central light provides a distinctive line at the rear.
- Launch-car finish: The concept is shown in Côte d’Azur Blue with subtle red flakes and a silver-colored soft top. Rolls-Royce has not said that every client car will use this combination.
Cabin and lighting
The launch concept’s cabin palette includes Charles Blue, Grace White, Navy, Peony Pink and Openpore Blackwood. Rolls-Royce says the Coachbuild Collection also has an exclusive color and material palette and Bespoke features; the displayed choices should not be taken as the final specification for every commission.
Starlight Breeze is an interior light feature made up of 10,500 individual illuminated “stars” in three sizes. Rolls-Royce says its designers developed the pattern from sound-wave forms in nightingale recordings after hearing birdsong during an early prototype drive.

What is known about the electric drivetrain?
Rolls-Royce confirms a fully electric drivetrain and describes it as producing “virtually no mechanical noise.” The company says the engineering goal is a serene experience with the soft top either raised or lowered. Those are manufacturer claims about the intended character of the car, not independent measurements.
The official material does not state battery capacity, driving range, motor output, charging time, connector type or charging-network compatibility. It would be premature to infer those specifications from another Rolls-Royce model or from outside estimates.

What has Rolls-Royce said about testing?
Rolls-Royce says validation has begun in Southern Europe and will extend across locations and climates chosen to reflect customer use. Its planned test environments include Mediterranean roads, the Arctic Circle and the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula, as well as altitudes up to 2,750 metres.
