The company’s accompanying Goodwood investment was intended to make room for bespoke and coachbuilt work and prepare for more EV production, not to increase daily output. A separate electric SUV was reported in testing in January 2026, but its timing and specifications remain unconfirmed in the reporting cited here.
What was Rolls-Royce’s second EV in 2025?
In January 2025, reports said Rolls-Royce planned to reveal another electric car that year, but did not identify its body style or specifications. On 13 March, Auto Express reported that the car was the Spectre Black Badge: a more powerful version of the brand’s existing two-door Spectre coupe, rather than a second, distinct body style. Autocar’s January report and Auto Express’s March report therefore describe different stages of the story: an unspecified planned EV, followed by identification of the 2025 reveal.
Why was Rolls-Royce making space at Goodwood?
Autocar reported on 8 January 2025 that Rolls-Royce was investing more than £300 million in its Goodwood facility. The stated purpose was to expand space for Bespoke and Coachbuild projects and prepare for greater EV production. The investment was not presented as a plan to build more cars per day.
CEO Chris Brownridge told Autocar that the factory was producing 25 to 26 cars per day and was at capacity. He said the extension was about space for bespoke and coachbuilt projects that take time, rather than greater volume. Autocar also reported that the value of Bespoke content per car had risen 10% year on year in 2024. These are figures and explanations reported by Autocar, not independently audited production or financial results.

Was the second EV actually “money-making”?
That wording needs qualification. Autocar described Rolls-Royce’s customisation programmes as highly profitable, but the reporting does not establish that the Spectre Black Badge—or any particular second EV—had earned a profit. The £300 million investment and additional workshop space point to the importance of custom and coachbuilt work to the company’s plans; they are not proof of a model-specific profit.
The sales context is also distinct from a profit claim. CarExpert reported 5,712 global Rolls-Royce sales in 2024, down from 6,032 in 2023, and ranked Spectre as the brand’s second-best-selling model that year, behind Cullinan. Those are CarExpert’s reported totals and ranking, not a disclosure of the Spectre’s profitability.

Will the next Rolls-Royce EV be an SUV?
A separate electric SUV was reported later. On 15 January 2026, Car and Driver reported that spy photographers had captured an electric Rolls-Royce SUV undergoing testing in Scandinavia. The article estimated a U.S. arrival as a 2028 model-year vehicle. That is Car and Driver’s forecast, not a confirmed Rolls-Royce launch commitment; the reporting cited here does not establish official specifications, a reveal date or market availability.
The 2025 Spectre Black Badge and the SUV reported in 2026 are therefore not the same car. The first is a confirmed performance variant of the Spectre coupe; the second is a distinct vehicle known from testing reports, with key details still uncertain. Car and Driver’s SUV report covers the later sighting and its estimates.
